Los Angeles Lakers forward Ron Artest has been suspended for Game 3 against the Dallas Mavericks. Posted by Ben Golliver.

On Wednesday night, we noted that Los Angeles Lakers forward Ron Artest was ejected after he clotheslined Dallas Mavericks guard J.J. Barea in the closing seconds of Game 2. His punishment won't stop there.

On Thursday, the NBA announced that Artest would be suspended for Game 3 in Dallas, set for Friday night. The NBA ruled that the play was a Flagrant Foul 2.
Ron Artest of the Los Angeles Lakers has been suspended one game without pay for swinging his arm and striking the face of the Dallas Mavericks’ J.J. Barea, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations. Artest’s contact has also been classified by the NBA as a Flagrant Foul Two.
The incident occurred with 24.4 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter of the Mavericks’ 93-81 victory over the Lakers at Staples Center on May 4. Artest will serve his suspension tomorrow when the Lakers visit the Mavericks at American Airlines Center for Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals.
Artest, L.A.'s starting small forward, is averaging 10.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists in eight playoff games.

In Artest's absence, look for Lakers' sixth man Lamar Odom to see his minutes increase, but Lakers.com reports that reserve small forward Matt Barnes is expected to start in place of Artest because Lakers coach Phil Jackson "does not like going away from his usual big man rotations."

L.A. trails Dallas in the series, 2-0.

Here's the video of his foul on Barea again.

He hit Lamar harder than he hit the little guy. Pathetic. That's barely a foul.

Cheap dirty play by Artest on a smaller player. I would love to see him try that on Tony Allen of the Grizz! TA would bust him up good.

As a Mavs fan, I wish they would just fine him instead of suspending him.  Artest is awful.  I would let him have open shots all day long before I want Kobe, Gasol, Bynum or Fisher taking a shot.

I hate the Lakers with a passion, but this foul hardly warrants a suspension.  Watch how he trys to hold the guy up after the foul.  He wasnt trying to hurt him just stuck hit arm out and when he realized that he hit him the stopped his motion and tried to hold him up.  NBA COME ON!!!!!

Ron Artest suspended for Game 3 against Dallas

I think this is a HO#$*#$IT suspension on Artest. Not only did he clothesline the Dallas player, he went way out of his way to do it. This isn't just a hard foul, this was an attempt to take a key Dallas player out of the series. Punishment should be MORE severe, two games at least. No I'm not a Dallas fan either, I just get sick of these "athletes" who turn into goons to take out opposition players and only sit for one game. There's no guarantee Dallas will win anyhow. Oh, and didn't the Wonderful Citizen Artest just receive some sort of humanitarian award for work off court? NBA crack down on the goons, or Dallas send a cheap shot man after the Lakers point guard. Eye for an eye.

But seeing how the Lakers started it, Dallas kick their @$$!!!

Even Barkley predicted Artest would do something dumb.  I will say this and I am a non Laker fan.  I appreciate how Phil Jackson called it like it was with Artest and when Kobe made his comment earlier.  It is refreshing.  Dallas needs to pounce on game 3 or this may become interesting.

The blame is on Phil Jackson, Artest as the announcer said gets cranky when he's losing. Rhey were down by 10 at that point and he shuld have been on the bench. Can't wait to see the Laker go down!

That was a dirty play but what was funny was that no one from Dallas got in Artests face.  Did you see Marion?  He just looked like "foul what foul?  i didnt see nothin"

totally agree! Artest is a dirty player but this hardly constitudes as a flagrant and an immediate ejection, I've seen a lot of these would've been just fouls in the regular seasons now as technical or flagrant fouls, Paul Pierce's ejection in game 1 is another example (though I'm a Miami fan I still didn't like that call). Basketball is a contact sport and just let them play!
