Expert Picks: NBA Finals Mavericks-Heat

Look who the Heat have played in the playoffs.  The 76'ers (wow!), an old and hurt Celtics team, and the Bulls who have 1 offensive weapon.  As long as the Mavs aren't playing against the refs again....they WILL beat the Heat!

People keep saying that the Mavs can't stop Lebron but look at the 2 regular season games against the Mavs.  In game 2 he was held scoreless (that equals 0 points) in the first half for the 1st time in more than 3 years.  He finished 6 of 17 from the field.  I'm sure the Mavs just got lucky that Lebron had a bad game.  In the 1st game he did have 23 points (not sure that will be enough) but had 5 turnovers and Wade had 7 for a total of 12 turnovers.  I'm sure they were just giving the Mavs hope so they could crush them in the finals.

If the Heat had these stats in Game 1 of the finals do you think they would win?  Dwyane Wade led five players in double figures with 22 points. LeBron James and Chris Bosh had 19 points each. James also had 10 rebounds and seven assists.  If didn't win it for them during the regular season.  I'm sure the Heat just weren't as good then as they are now!

When the Mavs beat the Lakers it was because they were too old.  When the Mavs beat the Thunder it was because they were too young.  What are they going to say when the Mavs beat the Heat?  They were too rich....too full of themselves???

Expert Picks: NBA Finals Mavericks-Heat

WOW...Been listening to the so-called "EXPERTS" this week and nobody thinks the Mavs have a chance. I am taking the Mavs in 6!!! As long as the refs have not bet on the Heat....(They probably did)...The Mavs have the all around better team. The clinching game against the Bulls the bench for Miamai only scored 14 points. Terry will do that alone. JJ will dart past everyone and dish when they collapse or make lay-up after lay-up. IF the refs stay out of the game then the Mvs will sweep. Now we know that will not happen. So I like the Mavs in 6!!!

Not that anyone asked, but my expert opinion is that Dirk and the Mavs win it all.

If they let the players play and not give Labron and Wade foul shots just for trying to get to the rim, then the Mavs will win based on a better "TEAM" I don't think the Heat has the bench to play as the Mavs do and I believe the Mavs play defense too.  We will spread the floor and make them work on Defense.  I just pray that they don't give it to the Heat like they did oin 06, that was a joke.  If Wade had ball he was fouled.  In the OKC series not counting game 1, Dirk was never awrded free throws after going to the basket, go look it up.  Just call it fair and let these two great teams show off the abundance of talent.  And lets crown a champion.

as long as mavs play against a team of 5 players(not 8), mavs in 5!  nba finals is not the boys league finals and the way it's been called by the nba officials, it looks like they are determined to protect lebron and wade by the inordinate  amount  of free throws given to these duo(despite  shooting 90% jumpers of their offensive output). d-rose who drove thru the lane more than 200% of the combined total of lebron and wade attempted inside the paint was awarded a total for the series not even 10% of what the duo from miami were accorded!

Oh no. Dirk is too amazing. How will the Heat contain him?

Um, the same way they did in '06 -- when Dirk was still amazing. They held him to less than 40 percent shooting.

Now Miami has a much better team and its defense is that much better. Mavs have a great offense but they can be stopped.

Should be a great Finals ... but Heat in six.

lol@ starblazer

That was witty...but I think your heart is speaking instead of your head. I WISH it was to be the Mavs in 6 or 7, but the heat have too much talent.

The above are experts? It's more like the faculty @ a suburban middle-school.

Mavs in 6. Dirk MVP. Go Big D, beat the most hated team not named the Yankees in pro sports.

.......if the Heat have no answer for Dirk.....fine, I will concede that your statement is true and ask you to answer my question. If no one can guard Dirk for the Heat....who will be able to guard Lebron from the Mavs? There is not a single player on the Mavs team that is capable of shutting him down. Even in the teams two game season series...little was done by the Mavs to stop Lebron....he stopped himself with too many forced shots and not enough drives thru the lane (trying to do it all himself). Plus, that was very early in the season and even the most diehard Heat & Lebron haters know that he is not the same player. Kind of a similar phenomenon that rookie QB's face learning the NFL game....with lots of practice, games and experience....everything "slows" down and playing becomes easier. To use another analogy from the from the "Matrix".....Lebron can finally see between the lines and understands the game around him..

You claim that no one wants the title more than Dirk....i would say that no one wants it more than Dirk and Lebron. Dirk for one simple reason...13 years in the league and losing to the Heat in 2006 when up 2-0 and leading game 3 late into the second half. For Lebron...the player donned with the title of "King"....the pressure has been there for him before he played his first game. He could finish his career as the statistical leader in every category and still not be considered the best player ever without a title or six (ie...for me, Marino is easily the best, passing QB to ever play in the NFL..but ranks down the list because his team never won a SB).

Here's the way i see the series going: points, heart, effort and passion of Dirk & Lebron will cancel each other out. That leaves....roughly...Terry, Marion, Chandler, Kidd, Berea, Stojakovic, & Stevenson vs. Wade, Bosh, Haslem, Miller, Anthony, Chalmers & Bibby. From that my opinion....only five will make regular, consistent production.....with the Heat winning this secondary match-up. No one can guard Wade....period! Not Terry, Stevenson, or Stojakovic. Here in lies the reality for the Mavs....another loss & dissapointment in the cards since they still cannot stop Wade. Kidd like Bibby is a wash overall for nightly production (edge to Kidd)...Kidd/Barea vs. Bibby/Chalmers is a even match-up too as both Barea and Chalmers can provide energy and scoring at times. Chandler vs Anthony (Llgauskas, Howard, Magloire, telling yet who will sit). Chandler should win this match-up if he avoids fouls in the lane. Rebounding...or rather staying close....will be a deciding factor for both teams and should be fairly even in most games. All the other roles players for both teams can perform well in situations....but not game to game.

In summation.....the Mavs will win if they can shoot over 50% from the field, 40% from the 3-point line and limit fast break opportunities. However, the Heat will win the series based on the fact that championships are won with a great defense that feeds an efficient offense....the Heat will get to the foul line, control the pace of the game....and during those critical late game moments....Wade and/or Lebron will seal the coronation of the new "KING".
