DALLAS -- Joakim Noah said the Miami Heat were "Hollywood as hell" after the Heat eliminated the Bulls. DeShawn Stevenson said at practice Monday the day after a Game 3 loss to the Heat that the Mavericks are having difficulty taking hard fouls on the Heat because of just how Hollywood they are on the floor when they think they've been fouled.

Stevenson was asked about giving hard fouls to the Heat like "90's basketball" and Stevenson explained that the Mavericks can't be too physical because of how the Heat react.

"We've got to take hard fouls. You touch them they make it so dramatic, you might get a Flagrant 2. Lot of guys are scared to take that hard foul or do things like that, because they're so magnified, with everything around them."

Stevenson described the Heat as "great actors," noting that they're supposed to try and sell those fouls.

But on the flip side, Stevenson said the Mavericks are getting points while the Heat are on the floor "being dramatic." In Game 3, the Mavericks repeatedly pushed the pace when the Heat were complaining to officials. Chris Bosh's eye injury that left him on the floor for an entire possession was obviously legit -- he appeared in front of reporters after the game with severe swelling -- but that injury aside, the Heat have repeatedly taken time chirping at the officials, leaving open opportunities. Stevenson said part of the game plan for the Mavericks is to punish the Heat in those times, because they're not playing defense.

"That's what we have to do. When they get to the bucket and then do that,  Dwyane Wade (and LeBron) aren't playing, they are not getting back on defense, we've got to take opportunity of that. We have a couple times where we get to the set and go through the set to try and get the ball to Dirk. "

The free throw advantage has been slighted in favor of the Mavericks, 80-65 in this series. The Heat need to get to the line to win, and the Mavericks' ability to survive runs is evidence of that. But it can't come at the cost of transition points for a team trying to take advantage of every opportunity the Heat afford them. Maybe in Game 4 the Heat will have more luck getting to the line if they just, you know, play.

NBA Finals: Stevenson says the Heat are "actors"

David Stern put his stamp on the NBA years ago when he mandated that star players be given preferrential treatment with the theory behind it as fans pay big money to see the stars and if Magic Johnson or Larry Bird are sitting on the bench than the fan does not get what they pay for.  Stern was right as some fans on the road say the Los Angeles Clippers at the old Sports Arena depended on big ticket nights when Michael Jordan and the Bulls or Larry Bird and the Celtics came to town but once the game starts a real basketball fan does not care about preferrential treatment.  Fact is the star players are going to get preferrential treatment because the game is so fast and due to human error will get calls in their favor but with the way the NBA commissioners office endorses star treatment the fouls are out of hand.  Biggest example game 5 in Chicago between the Heat and the Bulls.  Lebron James loses the ball and Derrick Rose slaps at the ball and James goes down acting as he was hit in the eye.  Granted the game is fast but the ball was between James' face and Rose's hand.  That was preferrential star treatment as right now James it he bigger star while Rose is probably going to surpass him in the future considering Rose works a lot harder and it shows with his development from year to year.

NBA Finals: Stevenson says the Heat are "actors"

Heat fans and Maverick bashers, please read this in a sensible manner. After reading these comments, I feel a little dumber having done so. Stevenson is not talking about the number of fouls called but the FLOPS AND ACTING OF THE MIAMI HEAT!!! Someone said Flagrant 2's don't matter because they are reviewed afterwards. Actually, in the game they matter big time. Let's says Dirk or Kidd get called for a Flagrant 2. They would most likely be ejected from the game, Miami would be awarded two free throws, and would maintain possession of the ball after the free shots. So in a game, it turns the time heavily and makes defensive play shift so that such flops in a big stage like the finals can't take place. I said it earlier and I will say it again, a coach should be given one review of a foul a game to see if a flop was committed. If there was a flop, the player taking the dive should be given a flagrant 1 or two (depending on initial ruling of person committing the foul originally, so in essence a reversal and transfer.) Use the rules of soccer to try and stop the flops.
And Heat fans, enlighten us on this subject. Why are your precious heat not getting T'd up for arguing every single foul on them or non call, when players like Taj Gibson for yelling to themselves about a call and walking away??!! Seems like BS to me. And I want a response from a TRUE HEAT FAN, not some cursing, illiterate blogger that just became a fan this year.

A Bulls fan rooting for the Mavericks because the Heat are better drama stars than Meryl Streep and Al Pacino mixed

The Acting is Ruining the Game

To be clear, it's not just the Heat, it's most of the NBA. "Selling" fouls is ridiculous to me. Just play the game and give 100%. There's a few reasons why I prefer the NCAA over the NBA;

1. Refs show favortism toward star players

2. NCAA is much more of a team game

3. College kids play like their futures depend on it

4. NBA players play like they're million dollar prima donnas

5. Refs not making a proper call because it's "too late in the game. Let the players decide the game, not the refs." Whatever - A foul is a foul and I don't care how late it is in the game. When someone commits a foul THE PLAYERS ARE DECIDING THE GAME.

Sure Stevens can have an opinion.  Doesn't matter how good of player you are.  They're totally right with that.  They act so bad about getting fouled its embarrassing.  It's even more embarrassing that the refs can't see that.  The Mavs just need to start doing the same.  This isnt about LBJ either.  Wade is probably worse then LBJ as far as acting.  By the way, Wade is just as good as LBJ as a player, i don't care what the people say.

Whereyaat?. You don't have a clue do you man.  How are the HEAT CHEATERS. The Mavs have the advantage on the foul line the whole series. The Mavs have the advantage on the foul line 80-65.  Before you make comments check your facts.  You morons are so blind, because of all the hate you all have for the Heat. Dirk is the biggest flopper in the series. If you blow on Dirk the refs call a foul on you and Dirk gets to the foul line. Dallas Mavs and their fans need to stop crying like babies and check the facts before the comment. The Fcat is the Mavs have been to the foul line more times than the Heat.

Maybe the Mavs and the Bulls should learn how to play better as a team insteed of complaining about nothing.  I love how  the Mavs complain about Fouls when the Mavs are on the foul line more times than the Heat have the whole series.  Dirk has been flopping like a soccer player the whole series.  All you have to do is blow on Dirk and the refs put him on the foul line. Deshawn Stevenson calls the Heat great actors , when really Dirk is the biggest actor on the court at all times.  Last game a foul was called for Dirk. The Refs said the Heat player pushed Dirk, but Dirk actually run foward like he got fouled.  I hate when players and teams make excuses for their lack of team play. Can Deshawn Stevenson even read.  The Mavs been to the Foul line way more times than the Heat.  The Refs tryed to help the Mavs win game 3, but the Mavs couldn't do it. The refs have been calling more fouls for the Mavs.  The Heat have been getting fouled but can't get a ref to call one for them. Dallas on the other hand get everything called and still suck.  Hey Mavs,  and Stevenson. Stop blaming your crappy playing on the refs, when the refs are giving you more chances at the foul line than the heat.  I can't stand cry babies. Especially when they make stupid comments without checking the facts first. The fact is, the Free throw advantage has been in favor for the Mavs 80-65. Stop crying and learn how to play basketball as a team.

How can a team leading in FT shots taken complain that the other team is "acting" too much to get fouls? If they aren't playing D because of it, why aren't you winning? Anyone complaining about flopping needs to look at the NBA as a whole, not the Heat particularly. Besides, Dirk flails like the best of them, hence his tremendous amount of FT's. Non-story to everyone that doesn't blindly hate the Heat or Lebron

So the Heat trail in the free throw department by an average of 5 free throws a game and the Mavericks start complaining about fouls? Nice.

Hey, Mavs. How about you remember how to shoot the ball? If the Heat aren't getting back and playing D how come you can't score 100 on them? 95? 90?

Worrying about getting a flagrant 2 when officials review the entire game after it's over is stupid and means you're not concentrating on winning the game.

Whining about flopping when pretty much everyone in the league does it means you're not concentrating on winning a title.

The Heat have controlled pretty much every aspect of this series and should be up 3-0. That's what the Mavs need to be complaining about instead of winning the war of public opinion.
