Terry: Can LeBron guard me for a whole series?

Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Terry wonders whether LeBron James can guard him for an entire series. Posted by Ben Golliver. jason-terry-speech

As the intensity of the 2011 NBA Finals continues to ratchet up, so too do the one-liners and trash talk.

First, on Saturday, it was Miami Heat forward LeBron James stating that Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion can't guard him alone. Then, on Sunday, it was CBSSports.com's Gregg Doyel writing that James was shrinking in the fourth quarters, prompting a retort from James.

On Monday, the Mavericks fired some shots of their own. CBSSports.com's Matt Moore reported that guard DeShawn Stevenson called the Heat "actors."

Mavericks guard Jason Terry joined the fray in a major way, calling out Miami's defense as a whole and questioning whether James can hang as well.

ESPNDallas.com quoted Terry taking a swipe at Miami's team defense.
Terry still seems hesitant to give too much credit to the Heat, even going so far as to say the Portland Trail Blazers were better on defense in the first-round series than Miami has been in the Finals.

"Portland, by far, has the best D," said Terry, who added that the Heat has a "great scheme" that is "working for them thus far this series."

The Palm Beach Post reported that Terry then took a shot at James, wondering whether the All-Star could continue to be effective against him throughout the course of a series.

Terry is shooting just 38.2 percent, and hasn't made a shot when LeBron James has been guarding him in the fourth quarter.

"I'm welcoming the challenge," Terry said of James. "We're going to see if he can do it for seven games."

Neither the raw numbers nor the efficiency numbers offer much support to Terry's claims.

The Mavericks as a team are averaging 88.3 points per game in the Finals, down 3.5 points from their average of 91.8 points per game against the Blazers. Terry is averaging 14.3 points against the Heat, down three full points from his 17.3 points per game average against the Blazers.

During the regular season, the Heat were ranked No. 5 in defensive efficiency while the Blazers were ranked No. 14. In the postseason, Miami has improved to No. 2 while the Blazers ranked No. 15 out of 16 playoff teams.

Chalk this up to desperate false bravado from Terry. If he truly believes Portland played better defense than Miami, he's insane. If he's trying to play mind games, he clearly overplayed his hand to the point that no one can take him seriously.

The only possible saving grace? Some players, Terry included, find motivation in verbalizing criticism of their opponents. This could all just be a complicated way for Terry to get his swagger back. He clearly needs to find it, and soon, or the Mavericks could be facing elimination.

Terry: Can LeBron guard me for a whole series?

When you get out of your parents basement then you can run your mouth, so until then shut the f*ck up.

Your team is the biggest bunch of pansy floppers on the planet.  SheWade is a pansy flopping bastard - I guess they teach that down in South Florida when you join the Heat.

Play real basketball pansy a*s cHeat punks!!

And why don't you come on down to Texas and give me a ring when you get here tough guy.
Trying to figure why you are whining about the calls. Dallas has shot 15 more free throws in the series. Dirk has shot more free throws than Wade.

What is your phone number, so we can give you a call when we are in your area. Amazing how tough some people can be when posting online.

No actually I'm saying don't call yourself a superstar if you have to flop and beg ( yes I said beg ) for calls. Superstars are supposed to rise above things like that.

80 Ft's for Dallas, 65 for Miami.  Who are the actors and who is getting the calls? I'm not a huge fan of either team but the officiating has been somewhere between slightly and moderately swayed in Dallas' favor.  Miami is much more of a driving team, therefore drawing more fouls, and somehow has still shot 15 less free throws... So the Mav's players, fans, and anyone else saying the Heat are getting anything from the officials, need to look at the stats and please refrain from speaking and making the rest of us dumber.  Thanks.

Wade doesn't sniff the finals this year without James being the best player in every playoff series so far.  He's played second fiddle to Wade in the finals, but isn't that why they got together?  And isn't that what Wade did while struggling other the last series?  And when James was hitting every big shot to crush Boston?

As much as I hate to admit it, you are correct.  James clutch in the ECF, hitting end of the shot clock 3s with a hand in his face more times than I can count.  He is a complete tool, mind you, but he can ball with the best of them.  I still question whether he has the mental toughness to become an all time great (he certainly has the skills), but he has stepped up in every playoff series but this one.

LeBum, did you ALLOW Wade to score at will against Dallas in 2006?? He has a ring, almost singlehandedly mind you, and if the Heat win this Series, he will have his SECOND MVP.  Why doesn't this bum ALLOW himself to shut up and watch Wade win this one for Miami, just like before.
You gotta love hatred, no matter how ignorant.

I am not sure why the Mavs are calling out the Heat. Dallas needs to quietly go about their business: I mean Terry calling out Lebron? That is rather silly. Let your game do the talking. So far Lebron has done a great job on D but typically the weakness of the Heat has been- they get ahead, they get complacent or even bored and let opponents back in. Don't get them so wound up that they go out there to prove themselves even more. Game 3 Lebron didn't score much but he played an excellent, unselfish game.

You gotta love confidence.  When you've had your butt handed to you by the other guy and been able to do nothing in crunch time, you decide it's a good time to question the other guy's ability?  Can't wait until Terry finally hits a shot and says "I told you so".

Jason Terry is a better shooter than Lebron James.

Jason Terry hit a lot of 3 pts which LBJ can't do.

Terry will explose tonight....  Terry can hit lot of 3's and he will do it tonight.

And, BTW, Stevenson is right...  Wade is not hurt and Bosh fake injury to stop Mavericks Momentum.  What a garbage ****

Troll much?  Or are you just this ingorant all the times?

Terry is a better shooter when LBJ isn't guarding him......maybe.

LBJ has been knocking down a lot of 3's througout the playoffs.  I actually think his 3pt % is around the 50% mark as well.

Terry will "explose" tonight, after James shuts him down yet again.

And DTW, Boshs injury wasn't faked or meant to stop any momentum.  A finger in the eye, hard enough, can keep a man down until he can see again.  And you only wish Wade was hurt, otherwise you guys could be in control of the series.
I'm not sure why you keep saying Wade isn't hurt though he is putting the hurt on the Mavs.  What a garbage post of yours.

No Jason Terry... LeBron can't guard you for a series. There are way better players than you on your team.

Im no fan of LeBron James, but Jason Terry? Come on he is mediocre at best. But i hope to see Dirk take down the fixed princesses of the NBA. That would be great. Lets go Mavs.
