Terry: Can LeBron guard me for a whole series?

Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Terry wonders whether LeBron James can guard him for an entire series. Posted by Ben Golliver. jason-terry-speech

As the intensity of the 2011 NBA Finals continues to ratchet up, so too do the one-liners and trash talk.

First, on Saturday, it was Miami Heat forward LeBron James stating that Dallas Mavericks forward Shawn Marion can't guard him alone. Then, on Sunday, it was CBSSports.com's Gregg Doyel writing that James was shrinking in the fourth quarters, prompting a retort from James.

On Monday, the Mavericks fired some shots of their own. CBSSports.com's Matt Moore reported that guard DeShawn Stevenson called the Heat "actors."

Mavericks guard Jason Terry joined the fray in a major way, calling out Miami's defense as a whole and questioning whether James can hang as well.

ESPNDallas.com quoted Terry taking a swipe at Miami's team defense.
Terry still seems hesitant to give too much credit to the Heat, even going so far as to say the Portland Trail Blazers were better on defense in the first-round series than Miami has been in the Finals.

"Portland, by far, has the best D," said Terry, who added that the Heat has a "great scheme" that is "working for them thus far this series."

The Palm Beach Post reported that Terry then took a shot at James, wondering whether the All-Star could continue to be effective against him throughout the course of a series.

Terry is shooting just 38.2 percent, and hasn't made a shot when LeBron James has been guarding him in the fourth quarter.

"I'm welcoming the challenge," Terry said of James. "We're going to see if he can do it for seven games."

Neither the raw numbers nor the efficiency numbers offer much support to Terry's claims.

The Mavericks as a team are averaging 88.3 points per game in the Finals, down 3.5 points from their average of 91.8 points per game against the Blazers. Terry is averaging 14.3 points against the Heat, down three full points from his 17.3 points per game average against the Blazers.

During the regular season, the Heat were ranked No. 5 in defensive efficiency while the Blazers were ranked No. 14. In the postseason, Miami has improved to No. 2 while the Blazers ranked No. 15 out of 16 playoff teams.

Chalk this up to desperate false bravado from Terry. If he truly believes Portland played better defense than Miami, he's insane. If he's trying to play mind games, he clearly overplayed his hand to the point that no one can take him seriously.

The only possible saving grace? Some players, Terry included, find motivation in verbalizing criticism of their opponents. This could all just be a complicated way for Terry to get his swagger back. He clearly needs to find it, and soon, or the Mavericks could be facing elimination.

Are you on drugs????

Jason Terry is a better shooter than Lebron James.

Jason Terry hit a lot of 3 pts which LBJ can't do.

Uh, no comment necessary, you're showing your ignorance very well, all by yourself.

And, BTW, Stevenson is right...  Wade is not hurt and Bosh fake injury to stop Mavericks Momentum.  What a garbage *****

Yeah, Bosh's swollen left eye was just Hollywood makeup....YOU'RE A MORON

Lol..... First Off...

A. When Deshawn Stevenson does something in this series, then he should be aloud to open his mouth... actors ? He did a pretty good job acting and flopping on the LBJ Offensive Foul in Game 3... Shut your dumb ass up Stevenson

B. When little Jitface Jason Terry ACTUALLY starts making shots and flying around the court like a retard thinking he is a jet then he can go and talk smack but we are 3 games in now and he has barely done anything, and now he decides to run his mouth.

C. Why would you call out Lebron James when he has been working your ass over ? lol   dumbest thing you could have done

D. The Mavericks just f%#$*ed up royally because if it is on thing you don't do versus the Heat it is talk smack because we always step it up even more...

Mavericks are in trouble now that they started running their mouths... shoulda just shit the f up and played ball....

Youre an ignorant retard!!!!!!! Bosh was not faking an injury to his eye. Did you watch the post game interviews or were you to busy crying and making up lame excuses for losing the game. The heat are good actors, but thats part of basketball. They learned from the celtics. They wouldnt be in the finals without the help of the officials! Ha. Another ignorant comment. Did you watch the mavs-thunder series? The mavs got every call.

Wow,

I thought some people were smart enough to see some sarcasm, but apparently dropping to your knees every time LeBum speaks tunes out your eyesight.  Look, the moron spoke first, claiming NOONE could guard him.  So Terry is having fun with it.  Should he shut up and play since they are down 2-1??  Yes, but what is James going to do??  Hit more wild BS 3's?  Flop more?  Whine more to the refs??  None of which will hurt Dallas.

By the way, any moron that claims "WE ALLOWED D-Wade to score at will in the 4th quarter" isn't smart enough to get that they WANT LeFraud to shoot more.  LeBum, did you ALLOW Wade to score at will against Dallas in 2006?? He has a ring, almost singlehandedly mind you, and if the Heat win this Series, he will have his SECOND MVP.  Why doesn't this bum ALLOW himself to shut up and watch Wade win this one for Miami, just like before.

"We are going to see if he can do it for seven games"

Terry, it's the dumbest quote ever.

#1.  This series isn't going to last 7 games.
#2.  You are a good spot up shooter, and stop and pop shooter on the fast break, but in a half court offense, Lebron has no trouble with a guy like you at all.
#3.  You really want to provoke a superstar that hasn't been playing that well so far?
#4.  You really want to provide extra fuel for the entire Heat team by completely discrediting them and saying the freakin Blazers are better?

Heat by 15 tonight.

Seriously JT, why even say anything?  LJ has been kind of out of it the last few games especially late, not sure I would poke the sleeping bear.  It was always funny when someone would have the stupidity to say something like this about Jordan, he would go off for like 50 the next game, so all these comparisons about Jordan and James from a few weeks ago, lets see what LJ has in him tonight.  Hopefully JT can walk to walk and help out Dirk tonight.  Let your play do your talking.

Game 4 is going to come down to more flopping from Wade and James. If Miami is as tough as Miami fans lead on then why are Miami's superstars flopping so much.
