Dirk calls Sniffle-gate childish, ignorant

This story is beyond idiotic. Wade did make fun of Nowitzki, Wade didn't make fun of Nowitzki, its shelf life has reached absurd levels. But no. Here we are, three days after it happened, still talking about it, still asking reporters about it, still being stunningly daft about what it means in a bigger context. There's no high horse here. Obviously trash talk is a fun concept. But this has just gotten absurd and its things like this which are overshadowing actually good basketball.

With that said, here's your obligatory update to what was said after practice Saturday about Sniffle-gate. Trust me, check our numbers or anyone else's, this is what people want to read about.

Dwyane Wade told reporters Saturday that the entire episode wasn't meant to make fun of Dirk, it started as a legitimate cough, which then turned into he and LeBron James joking about how reporters would blow it up. Which, naturally, the media did.

"I wasn't fake coughing," Wade said. "I actually did cough. And with the cameras being right there, we made a joke out of it because we knew you guys were going to blow it up. You did exactly what we knew."

I'm going to pause here and let everyone get out their "Ha! Yeah, right!" 's  and their "A likely story!"'s. I'm going to let you guffaw and shake your head (or "SMH" if you're the Twittering type). Get it all out of your system. And I'm not saying that because I think Wade's being honest. He could be. He very well could not be. But the one thing he's right about is that we, the media, and oh, yes, you the fans (don't think you're not culpable here) took this ten seconds of interaction and made it into a huge deal. We blew it up, Wade's right about that. Whether he's covering or not, it became a story, during the NBA Finals, one that is rife with quality storylines. This became the story for three days.

The Mavericks for the most part would not take the bait before practice Saturday, with Shawn Marion saying "I hadn't even heard about it until I saw it on CNN this morning." Jason Terry said he had not seen the video and didn't care about it. Dirk Nowitzki was really the only Maverick to say anything about the whole thing.

"I just thought it was a little childish, a little ignorant," Nowitzki said. "I've been in this league for 13 years.  I've never faked an injury or an illness before.  But it happened.  It's over to me.  It's not going to add anything extra to me.  This is the NBA Finals.  If you need an extra motivation, you have a problem."

What you have is a situation where what Wade and James did probably irked Nowitzki. It's not that it was that bad or it was anything terrible. It's not what's going to drive Nowitzki Sunday, or any of the Mavericks. It's just another example of the Heat not only knowing how to avoid media scrutiny, but swerving directly onto the tracks, then blaming other people for driving them into the train. The Heat are obviously under more scrutiny than any team in history, but it doesn't change the fact that they do something seemingly every game to keep that white hot spotlight there. Maybe it's about attention. Maybe it's about immaturity. Maybe it's just a series of unfortunate events. But every other superstar in the league manages to avoid getting in trouble 9 out of 10 times, while the Heat bat about .400. And this time, they insulted Nowitzki, intentionally or not.

So Nowitzki jabbed back, obviously offended on a professional level, but he's not going to let it get to him. If the Mavericks close this thing out in six, it won't be because of Wade and James acting like idiots on camera. It'll be because the Mavericks have proved they're the better team and won four out of six. This Mavericks team is made up of experienced veterans. They're not caught up in trash talk, though they dish a lot of it. They want the title, they want the glory, they want to make up for 2006. This is about legacy, not the sniffles.

Dirk calls Sniffle-gate childish, ignorant

It is childish and ignorant. Just like the stunt James pulled last year with the 'I am taking my talents to South Beach'.  Grow up already!!
Now that James is in Miami, looks like his immaturity is rubbing off on the others.  I am not a Mavs or a Heat fan, by any means.  I am having a hard time rooting for a whinny, arrogant, loud-mouth owner or an arrogant, whinny, ignorant child (who thinks he's a superstar).  I think I will take the former.  LeBron is like that mischievious punk in elementary school that drags others in so he doesn't get all the blame.  Just shut up and play!!

Is it possible that the self absorbed LeBron and the fraud DWade are tired of being shown up by the white guy and seeing all the "Dirk is great" coverage?  Yes, I called DWade a fraud becuase he is self absorbed too but has a demeanor that makes you believe he isn't.

DWade and LeBron would NEVER disrespect a black player the way they did Dirk. They would be called out by too many of their fellow black players if they did that. Oh, and God forbid 2 white players EVER did that to a black player.  Jesse Jackson and crew would be saying how it all comes down to race...

Truth be told, LeBron is NOT the greatest player in the league and not even close to what Scottie Pippen thinks he is.  No great player disappears in the late momenst of a game. In fact it is what they do in the late moments of a game that make them great and legendary.  LeBron shooting stroke shortens in the 4th quarter because he gets tight.

LeBron has a punk arrogance about him that makes him unlikeable.  The CBSSportsline survey of who do you want to see win, Dirk or LeBron has 89% picking Dirk.

Think about that.  9 out of 10 selected Dirk and I bet you half of them picked Dirk because of their dislike of LeBron more than they are fans of Dirk or Dallas.

Here's hoping Cleveland can celebrate a Dallas championship tonight.

Ua know when ya down 3 games to 2 wirh 2 home games against the best road team in the NBA is not the time to be talkin trash. James has been a no showthe last 3 games come crunch time, the Heat might as well be playing Darko in his shoes. All thats left to wonder about this Finals is at what point does LeChoke  start saying the Heat did not give him any talented players to work with.

LOL, Kind of funny when you turn the race card around.  It happens every time the reverse happens and it is a white person mocking a black person, and this post just proves how ignorant it is to bring race into a non-racial situation.  How come Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton haven't come to stand up for Dirk?  Oh yea, cause they only believe white people are racists.

If I was a pro athlete, I would never read anything the media writes or take them seriously at all.  Frankly, even not being a pro athlete, I think the sports media is retarded.  Yeah, the "R-word" I used it.  That's kind of how you use that word.  Sports journalists are mentally handicapped, this is not a ground breaking revelation, everyone knows it.  If pro athletes weren't contractually obligated to speak to the media, they never would.  If you are a regular person and the media rolls up on you the way these guys do, you almost definitely would have a cause of action for assault and stalking against these "journalists."  Especially when they can't even give you 5 minutes to change in a locker room before they barge in.

The Jets incident was particularly retarded last year.  You have this half naked skank in the locker room and then the retard media claims she was sexually harassed.  Looks to me that a woman watching a man change would be the man being sexually harassed.  Only the retard media can't figure that one out.  The retard media also claims three bigger, older girls holding down and stripping a little boy naked is a "harmless prank."  The media sucks even outside of sports, it's totally worthless.

Now to this "issue."  The Mavs have been absolutely classlessly running their mouths all series.  They have been bashing Lebron especially, but they've been bashing Wade as well.  I'm looking at you Stevenson and Terry.  Those two scrubs didn't even do anything until Game 5, yet they talked.  Yet the media gives the Mavs a complete pass and only bashes Lebron and Wade and the Heat, because that's their thing.

Same way the media is busy bashing the Jets and performing fellatio on the New England Patriots.  I remember LT getting bashed for being "classless" because his team dared say anything about the Patriots and their coach.  So why isn't Dirk getting heat for what Stevenson and Terry have been saying all series?  Worthless hypocrisy, that's why.  You have that one idiot writer on this site that writes article after article obsessing over Lebron James now claiming everyone else is at fault for focusing on Lebron and not the Mavs.

If all the sports journalists died tomorrow nobody would even notice.  Truly a worthless profession.

Dirk has a right to be offended. It's not like we saw Dirk limping arounding holding his hip after game 5 as a way to mock Wade. He has also been in the league much longer than these two prima donas. Wade and LeBron must think they're going to come back to Miami and take these guys down, otherwise I guess I don't get why'd they be joking around like that. I hope Dirk puts up a legendary performance tonight and beats the Heat in game 6.

if you just look at the timeline of the miami heat, then you would see events that prove this team is an arrogant, whiny, bunch of losers that needed each other to win a title. look ifhe had just signed it would have been ok. its still kind of douchy but its ok. the way he has done this though has been so childish. Having a tv show to say where he is going. complete arrogance. Having a championship parade before the season saying that their going to win at least 7 championships. Whining about foul calls, just whining in general like saying that the world is getting what they want, the heat losing with a little pout. Doing really stupid celebrations while on the court. like the raptor doing hi slittle shout every time he scores. theres plenty more, but now this? They did this on purpose in from of a dallas camera, acting like their 4 years old and they have some unfunny inside joke. Dirk is right, its childish and ignorant. their losers plain and simple. narccacists. Barkley said it best. there a whiny bunch. And they have the worst fans in sports. But thats a given. The nba and the nfl are both jokes. good thing baseball is on. toobad the nhl is coming to a close.

Childish, ignorant..........and racist?  Could it be that they are just clowning on the white guy? ........Yay or Nay?

Could it be that you are a moron??  That's a big YAY for sure..... does there have to be at least one idiot in every thread that can't stop bringing up race?  It drives me nuts.... so stupid.

As for Dirk Nowitzki, I think he's an unbelievable player and I have the world of respect for him and always will.  Although I want the Heat to win this series to shut up the Lebron haters I have to admit the obvious... Dirk is an amazing player in the NBA.... but does he or did he ever have the flu?  Was it just a little cold?  A lot of mental crap goes on in any championship series in any sport.... sometimes the smallest things make the biggest difference.  Sometimes teams hide injuries, sometimes they don't.  Sometimes they make things up along the way hoping to screw up the other team...... nobody on these boards knows what happens behind the scenes...

Anybody here have the flu lately?  Ever have it really bad?  If so, you'll have to admit there is no way you're running up and down the court and dominating opposing professional basketball players with the flu... I don't care if you have the best medical team in the world boys... the flu knocks the crap out of anybody I've seen my entire life... no exceptions..... we may work through it but most of our jobs don't involve the effort and stamina it takes to do what Dirk does...

Either Dirk is legitimately a superhero or the "flu" was really an overblown thing.. just a little strategy to maybe throw off the Heat.
