MIAMI -- Shawn Marion does not consider himself a role player, he does not consider himself a "reformed" defensive player, and Shawn Marion has no intention of seeing a Game 7 in Miami.

Marion told reporters at shootaround before Game 6 Sunday in Miami that he hasn't even brought enough clothes to see a possible Game 7 should the Heat win tonight.

"I only brought two pairs of socks," Marion said. When pressed on the question, Marion simply repeated, "I only brought two pairs of socks."

The confidence of the Mavericks has been overwhelming in these playoffs, and no one exemplifies it more than Marion. In these playoffs, Marion has defended Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, and LeBron James, while also providing offense. He has hustled in transition, kept his head up and kept himself out of foul trouble, and approached each game as if it was the last, while also not burning out emotionally. He's set the bar as the rest of the Mavericks veterans have. With one more game to validating a career with a championship ring, his confidence doesn't read as false bravado, but as determination.

The only thing standing in Marion's way of a trip home to the washing machine with a title is the Miami Heat.

Matrix didn't bring enough socks for a Game 7

This is funny. You can see the generation gap on this site. We older guys had to wear two pair of socks because we used to wear canvas Converse All Stars. They had soft sides, had no real support except they were high cut so if you were about to roll an ankle you would feel the turn first and hopefully correct it before injury. If you ever wore one pair of socks in those babys your feet and toes would be torn up with blisters. The traction was about as good as today's sneakers but your feet would move around and rub with every change of direction. When you wore two socks the rubbing would be between the socks and your feet wouldn't blister. History lesson for today boys and girls.

Now would you like to discuss old school jock straps compared to the support underwear of today? Yes I still use the old jock straps I bought a decade or two ago.

Marion has played great but it would be smart for all these guys to save the talking for after the series. Nothing motivates an opponent more than such talk.
I'm part of the old school lol, and my shoes fit, and therefore no need for extra socks.  UNless you mean like you are 65 years old school, then you may be right.  Or you may have freakishly narrow feet.

Can't understand why everyone is so sure that the Heat are going to win tonight.  Sure they are 9-1 at home, but who is their one loss to?

Matrix didn't bring enough socks for a Game 7

Following up on my post at 6:47, I think the Heat can still beat the Mavs these two games, IF Spoelstra can get James, and all the Heat, to forget completely all the articles and talk, and just play together, taking what they are given. I love the Mavs, and they are playing great - and I hope they win.  But though it will be tough for the Heat to do, I think it is still possible for them to win the series. ... Too often, everyone gets caught up in what has just happened in the last game, and expects that to continue.  Not necessarily!  Just check out this series game by game!

Sounds like Marion didn't pack enough socks then... Hope there's a convenient store near by.

Should be a GREAT game - whether or not Marion brought enough socks!!!  :)  I think both teams have done a great job - and their coaches - of figuring out the other tean and how to hold them down (for the most part).  I don't particularly like James, but his play does not deserve all the ripping that he has received.  The Heat have run into the problem which many foresaw from the beginning - how do you distribute time and scoring opportunities, etc., when you have three stars?! The great defense that the Mavs have played has just made this problem more obvious. With Wade hot most of the time, being a distributor has made sense.  Forcing more shots would not have benefited the Heat!

GREAT ARTICLE!!!  As far as someone feeling it a waste of time to read, or irrelevant:  1)  It didn't take me THAT long to read it!  2)  The socks are irrelevant, but it is what Marion is meaning that is significant!  Ever hear of metaphors, or irony, or sarcasm, in writing (and speaking)?!!!  Fantastic job of Marion telling of his (and the Mavs) confidence that they can (or will) win this game, without so overtly making that statement and stirring up the Heat!  (Who knows?  Maybe James and Wade and Bosh won't even get the point anyway!)  LOL  Yes, CLASSIC!!!  :)
