Cuban paying for the parade, might not do rings

MIAMI -- You just knew Mark Cuban would have to do something big, something different for the Dallas Mavericks first championship. His first two orders as trophy holder: The parade's on me and we're doing something better than rings.

Via ESPN Dallas:
Mark Cuban said championship parades and title rings just aren't his style, but the 2010-11 NBA champions will be riding floats through the streets of Dallas very soon.

And Cuban said he's picking up the tab.

"We'll do it," Cuban said early Monday morning. "All I told them was -- Terdema Ussery, our president -- you plan the parade. I'll pay for it because I don't think it's right for the city to have to pay for it. And let's just have some fun."

Remember all the problems last year in Los Angeles when the Lakers couldn't figure out what to do with the parade? It was going to cost the city millions and there was debate whether or not the team would have it. Cuban, being the completely awesome guy that he is, just said, "I've got it you guys." Say what you will about Cuban, but he's a terrific owner.

Then Cuban talked about the hardware. But he doesn't want to go the traditional route.

"I might not get rings," the Mavs' billionaire owner told NBATV. "Rings are old school. You've seen it before: There's guys who pick up the sweats and towels and they have these big, blingy rings. I'm like, 'Rings are done. It's time to take it to the next level.'"

If not rings, then what? Championship belts? Crowns? Necklaces? Golden sceptres? I wouldn't expect anything less from Cuban because, well, he's Mark Cuban.

But you know, if you don't get Dirk a ring, then how are Dallas fans supposed to win arguments now? They won't have the "Yeah but he's got a ring!!!" argument. I guess they'll just have to say, "Dirk is a top 10 player dude. He's got a sceptre now!" Actually, that's not all that bad.

"Facts are stubburn things.  Just because you keep saying something completely fictitous, mere repititon won't make it come true."

True, skreffty,  and you should listen to yourself. You are still very wrong and you can't hide that clear fact that is right there in the article you pulled up.

Have to jump in here, skreffty, because you started this with "Compare Mark Cuban to Jerry Jones.  Cuban is going to pay for the parade, while Jones had the City of Arlington pay for most of his gaudy stadium, AND the interest.  One is all class, the other can't count seats."

jltexas was missing 3 zeros, not 1 zero plus some as you said. He also said that was less than 1/3 of stadium cost. Add the 3 zeros and change and that is correct.

Last time I did math, 325 million is less than 1/3 of 1.15 billion.

And the 150 million loan is to be repaid to NFL by Jerry Jones.

Jerry's bill is 1.15 bil minus 325 mil and 150 mil. That is 675 mil plus repayment of the 150 mil.

And, yes, NFL does take full control of stadium for Super Bowl. Jerry wanted to get record with his party pass (standing room) plan he used for season. NFL was the one who wanted all fans in seats and set up adding the temp seating. So, yes NFL had that part, God had the ice and north Texas had no snow plows. We had to borrow they from places that need them.

So the facts bear jltexas to have the correct idea. You are still wrong about Arlington paying for most of the stadium.

Dallas area has 2 involved owners that put up their money to win. Both rub people the wrong way at times and are said to be meddling. But both have title(s) and both will not change much. And to top it off, they like each other (at least in public) and like working together.

So don't try to think they are very different. When Cuban bought the Mavs he said he wanted to be a lot like Jerry (at that time it was still a very good thing) and he still sees himself that way, only a bit better. Time will tell

Cuban paying for the parade, might not do rings

I dont know if you want your team on Harleys you provided.  If the players did something stupid like Kellen Winslow (Cleveland Browns) did and get hurt, you could only blame yourself.  But the thought was good

I love this guy!  He is a testament to what our society is lacking. A true passion for what he believes in, and the conviction to get it done.  So many people out there say one thing, and then do another.  Cuban said he was gonna bring the city of Dallas a championship, and his players bought into too.  We need more people in the world like Mark Cuban, with or without the billion dollars.  Passion and commitment to something bigger than yourself is an aspiration we can all strive for for.  Congratulaions to Mark, Dallas, and the whole country for this epic performace!  Watching Lebron celebrate would have been detrimental to the sport, and our society as a whole!  Down with the King,  and congratulations to the blue collar work ethic that make Dirk, Kidd, Chandler, and the rest of the Mavs nation champions for a lifetime.

P.S. Why didn't he buy my Astros?  That would have been AWESOME!

P.P.S Why didn't Lebron cry like the prima donna baby that he is?  That would been the icing on the cake.

Cuban paying for the parade, might not do rings

Classy move by Cuban by picking up the tab for the parade.  But I still think the team should get championship rings.  It's a tradition and it means a lot to have a ring like all the great teams before.  Get the rings PLUS something else, just don't do away with the rings completely .

Mr.Cuban please buy our 76ers.
Congrads,  I used to love Mike Tyson (until he went nuts) because he would walk in with just his belts, boots and gloves not a big show just all business.  I like Mark Cuban because he isn't pretentios like a Jerry Jones.  He hangs out on the side line in a tee shirt and is his teams biggest fan.

Cuban paying for the parade, might not do rings

I dislike the NBA, but love Mark Cuban.  He treats his franchise like more than just an investment and truely seems to enjoy it.  I think a ture example of what you put into something is what you get out.  He's never tightened up the purse strings on the team or facility.  Congrats Mavs and Mavs fans.  I fully expect the team to be driving their championship Escalades in the Championship parade all paid for by Cuban.
