Only with the Timberwolves would a No.2 overall pick be considered a burden. But that's the case as just as soon as the Wolves found their spot in the lottery, rumors of them trying to trade it sprang to life. And as Thursday's draft inches ever closer, they've gotten out of control. They're multiplying like Gremlins. Seriously, if you see one, don't feed it after midnight. Here's what we've got. These are rumors and should be viewed with skepticism, but they pass the "okay, that's not so absurd it's laughable"/"that can't possibly work under the current CBA" test.

Pau Gasol for Kevin Love and the No.2.  Yeah, that's what you call a blockbuster deal. It sounds insane, until you think about it. The Wolves do want an established star. Gasol is buds with Rubio out of Spain. The Lakers have been frustrated with Gasol and Love would rebound and hit threes while not challenging Bryant. Then you think about it some more and it's still completely insane. Eric Pincus of Hoopsworld floated some substantiation of the idea touched on by ESPN in a chat session about Gasol being on the Wolves' radar. Respected cap analyst Larry Coon tweeted over the weekend that there "may be some fire" there. Coon also said Love and the No.2 is too much, and that Love has not been put on the table. The big thing here is that moving Gasol means risking the championship window which is assuredly still open as long as Gasol is still within range of his prime, which he is, though the distance is increasing. Plus Love's poor defense could be a big issue under Mike Brown. But there's a decent around of smoke around this one, even if the flames seem plastic.

Here's a fun one. The ESPN radio affiliate out of Minneapolis reported over the weekend that conversations had taken place between the Wolves and Bucks, sending the No.2 pick for Andrew Bogut and the No.10 pick. Darren Wolfson of local television confirmed the report and the Minneapolis Star-Tribune says it's possible, but Milwaukee isn't biting. If Milwaukee were chasing the deal, it would mean that something was seriously wrong with Bogut's wrist, which would probably kill the trade in a physical anyway. And with Darko Milicic on the books for four more years, the deal only gets more confusing.

Weirdly, the one established player who the Wolves could use who is on the block, and the one team that could use the No.2 as a building block in starting over is Monta Ellis and the Golden State Warriors. But while it makes a lot of sense, there's no one biting, so far.

Thankfully a rumor that had Washington offering up JaVale McGee was shot down by the Washington Post. Trying to imagine McGee in the Minnesota winter trying to clown around with Ricky Rubio while Kevin Love cries at his locker was a little much to take in as a mental image.

wolves take Vasley, 4 white starters, with the SG being the only black player on the floor. Something that may be remedied with the 20th. The timberwolves are nothing but a Tall hockey team that can't skate. Trade love, Draft Williams, He's more athletic, vertical, and probably has more potential longhaul. I am sick of hearing about Kevin Love, I watched several Twolves games last year, his numbers don't match his footprint on the game. He plays quite and doesn't have a significant impact on the game. He will make a great compliment to an established star, Doing the little things, but with the second pick and the worst record in the league lets worry about the big things.

Ignored in all of this is the "fact" that if the Warriors acquired the #2 pick it would be just as big a burden on them; seriously, up to this point, the GS front office has been as big a, if not bigger, joke than the T'wolves.  The Lil' Shop of Horrors that is the Warriors draft resume is stupendous, and at #2 they'd be just as stuck as the T'wolves.  Do they take a Euro-big or "best available" Big Man as they have consistently in the past--with consistently bad results, despite Nellie's rep as a big-man coach?  Do they take a guard who isn't Kylie Irving, say Brandon Knight, and hope they can convince him to pass the ball to Curry consistently?  Or do they take one of the many, many 'tweeners in the draft, ranging from Dereck Williams to the Morris brothers?  The #2 pick this year is cursed, let's face it.

My choice would be Kanter, but I'll pay for that later.

Twolves should trade Kevin Love to the Lakers. When Love's contract is up in a year, that is probably where he is going to go anyways, they may as well try and get some players now for him. It looks like the Twolves won't be going after guards anyways like they need desperately so they will be just as bad this year as they were last year regardless. If they are going to go after forwards in the draft (which they don't need) you may as well trade Love now.

In my opinion, Williams is a Michael Beasley clone in the NBA.  Williams is stuck between the 3 and 4 and will have the same struggles at the position that Beasley has. Kanter is the best pick if they keep the pick, imo.

Why do so many writers assume that because Darko is under contract the Wolves feel that they're set at center for the next four years? Darko is due to make $4.8, $5.2 and $5.8 million over the next three (not four per hoopshype.com) years.  While he's overpaid, he's not exactly breaking the bank.

Also, as a Wolves fan, I appreciate that Kahn is willing to trade anyone and anything.  There's nothing wrong with floating that #2 is available and seeing what deals are available.  Kahn has made some good (Beasley, cleaning out a number of bad contracts) and bad (Flynn, not keeping Lawson) moves; I'm hoping he ends up on top of the next one.

Why are the Wolves even considering trading this pick? It's not like if they get Gasol it's a final piece to the puzzle. Why not accumulate good young players and let them develop together? Williams is the obvious pick once Irving is gone. If Kahn does something different they should fire him on the spot.

That is all the Wolves would need, a 4th PG.

Nothing the Minnesota Timberwolves do would be a surprise to me and I can't believe they would give that much for Pau Gasol, but the Ricky Rubio friendship connection makes it a real possibility in my opinion.
