The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly considering trading forward Josh Smith. Posted by Ben Golliver. josh-smith

Finally, someone other than Philadelphia 76ers forward Andre Iguodala is involved in a trade rumor!

Yahoo! Sports reports that the Atlanta Hawks and forward Josh Smith might be headed for a break-up.
The Atlanta Hawks have started to gauge trade interest on forward Josh Smith, and Smith isn’t averse to ending his seven-year stay with his hometown team, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Monday.

Smith hasn’t requested a trade, but has privately told league friends that the Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic are his preferred destinations should the Hawks decide to move him.

“The relationship has run its course,” said a league source with knowledge of the dynamic.
Smith is on the books for $12.4 million next season and $13.2 million in 2012-2013. Those are hefty numbers but his versatile game is probably worth it.

At 25, Smith has flirted with figuring it out over the course of his NBA career, but always seems to revert back to his bad habits: poor shot selection and moody behavior. An exceptional athlete and game-changing defender, Smith is at his best when fully motivated and engaged, attacking the basket and using his leaping ability to play above defenders.

He stuffs the stat sheet, averaging 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.3 steals in 34 minutes per game in 2010-2011. Smith has never been selected as an NBA All-Star, but he's been on the fringes of the discussion in recent years.

Smith should be able to produce those numbers, or similar, for at least the next three to five seasons. One factor for teams interested in trading for him: He will likely command a sizable contract when his current deal is up, as he will be hitting free agency at the age of 27.

Of the teams listed, the New Jersey Nets and Orlando Magic jump out of the group in terms of having a specific positional need. In Orlando, Smith would be paired with childhood pal Dwight Howard to make the best four-five combination in the league. Houston would be an intriguing option too, and the Rockets, with two first round picks and lots of young talent, might very well be able to present the Hawks with the best offer.

Pistons management should scramble and get in on the action in this one, They got players that equals to the salary of Josh Smith's salary, they can offer at most two players and in no consequence this year's eight pick for him and also the Hawk's second rounder should be included in the trade if ever. So Joe Dumars start working and work you magic!

That's a pretty hefty contract for zero defense. Sounds right up Houston's alley.

Hey Destiny - We are not NBA GM's & either are you.  Just talking some basketball.  Since you're so smart why don't you move out of your grandmas basement & get a job.  I hate it when people take a friendly coversation about a sport they like & turn it in to a pissing match!  What would you suggest they do then Mr. Sund?

Obvious Why None of You Guys are NBA GM's

From the deals proposed on this board, it is obvious why none of you guys are NBA General Managers and never will be!  It is also the same reason that your fantasy basketball teams stink.  You want to get a great player by giving up multiple stinkers.  Quanity does not equal quality!

I think for Orlando it would have to be (Q. Richardson,Nelson, or Redick ), Bass and Hedo and 2nd round pick for Smith and M.William.

See if magic kept Nelson they would have

Nelson, J.Rich , Williams, Smith and Howard starting with Redick , Duhon, Arenas , Anderson, Clark, and Orton.

Which hopefully we could pick up a free agent for backup center or hopfully Orton just improves alot.

But our Starts would be almost impossible to beat.

Smith & Hinrich for Nelson & Bass?  Wow!  Really?  The Hawks don't need a point guard.  I believe J Teague had his break out party in the playoffs.  They need a big & Bass doesn't fit that!  I'm thinking a combination that would send Smith to the T-Wolves for Love.

It won't happen, but I'd love to see Smith in green and white.

Smith and Hinrich to the Magic for Nelson and Bass and the 2 teams swap thier 2nd rd picks in this years draft. This will help the Magic frontcourt become the most feared in the league pairing childhood friends in Howard and Smith, give the Magic depth at point allowing them to rotate Hinrich w/ Arenas, both of whom can play the 2. Instantly upgrades the Magic D which was thier achilles heel last year. For the Hawks, Nelson is much more of a playmaker than Hinrich and Bass is a better fit for thier system, though they would take a step back in the D dpt, they would also save about 9 mill on next years salaries giving them some flexibility to find another mid level stud.
