Report: Kings coaches did not want Jimmer

The Kings managed to take on John Salmons' salary for an aging player while giving up a veteran point guard on a reasonable deal and in return moved down three spots in the draft. They then used that pick to select Jimmer Fredette. Popular? Sure. Exciting? Absolutely. Bit of a reach? Totally. Fredette was going to go in the top-10 based on hype, not on translatable talent. There are concerns about his ability to translate to a point guard, and to defend bigger players. The latter concern is covered in Sacramento because Tyreke Evans is big enough to guard a moving house, but the Kings still need a distributor point guard and instead they have four ball-handling, scoring guards (Jimmer, Reke, Marcus Thornton, and John Salmons they traded for Thursday). And apparently, the Kings coaching staff was aware of that fact, and as a result, there was a rift over the pick. Ken Berger of CBSSports.com reported before the pick went in that ownership wanted Jimmer, the coaching staff wanted Alec Burks. From Yahoo! Sports:
The Sacramento coaching staff isnt happy with the selection of Fredette, sources say. They wanted a veteran guard, ala Felton or Parker.

Ownership getting entangled in basketball decisions is almost never a good idea. Mark Cuban's highly involved, but he asks for what his trusted people's recommendations are and for the most part lets Donnie Nelson do his job. Interfering like this creates situations where you have to have a cagematch before each game to decide which one of your four guards is going to get 25 shots per game. But it will help ticket sales in Sacramento, so maybe that's the Maloof's plan, even if they don't want to keep the team in Sacramento.

All in all, a weird day in Kings-land that resulted in Jimmer Fredette winding up in a strange spot for his talents.

Steve Nash is the worst two time MVP in history.

Are you people serious... you would have to be color blind not to see that Dirk is white or dumb as dumb... just like saying Nash isn't white he's Canadian... Joking... Let the kid play because you never know he just might turn out to be a great player "white" or "black" in the model of Nash (great player) and develop his passing, steals and become a proficient scorer in the NBA.

How stupid are you?

JOHN STOCKTON?  He played after Bird.

STEVE NASH!!!!

What about Chris Mullin?  HOF

Kevin Love is an all star.  Chris Kaman and David Lee have been all stars.

You are a FOOL.  And to say German doesn't = white means you forgot about WW2 and what Hitler was fighting for.

Still, it was similar for Stephen Curry coming out of college.  All anyone really knew of him was his shooting prowess.  Fredette's probably not much worse of a pick.

I think were Steph had a leg up was the fact that his father had him prepared for the NBA and its mental ups and downs.  Jimmer is going in there with less preperation.  He is either going to get eaten up alive or he will be serviceable.  If he does hit stardom it will be a good thing. I have to admit there is a bias against me believing he will succeed because he is white.  (Where did that come from?) I still think Curry is more athletic and just as smart but that may just be my prejudice showing.

I have to laugh at that goofy picture--dude looks like he's 13 years old.

This pick doesn't make sense... unless they move Thornton... to many shoot first mentality players here. He might be able to defend, but not many players are true lock down players.... if they let Evans handle the ball and run the offense through him, have Jimmer at PG Evans at SG they need a SF (Thornton and Evans are to small to be in this position) PF and C they are pretty good in... if Jimmer can shoot as good as he did in college or at least has the same range he will be good enough. Bad part is that he is stuck in a situation where the Kings will play him off the bench and I don't see him translating to well off the bench early on... he can be a Jason Terry later on, but Terry was a player who "exploded" his last year in college, came in played well but was always labeled as a loser who couldn't win with the Hawks because he was the best player on that team... put him on the Mavs he is a great shooter who is a great closer... we will see if Jimmer can do teh same thing.... if so the Kings will be happy.

With the possible exception of King Jaffe Joffer, Ruler of Zamunda, Jimmer may very well prove to be the greatest King in history.
Forgot about Mitch Richmond there didnt you?

The minute I heard the Kings were drafting Jimmer I knew it was a publicity stunt.  While Jimmer may at best be a backup point guard or a shooter off the bench, he is not going to be a superstar.  I will give credit in the fact he appears to be intelligent but that will not be enough to overcome athletic shortcomings.  The Maloofs ought to be ashamed of themselves.  Anyone with half a brain knows this is a ploy to sell more tickets at least in the beginning.  They want out of Sacramento pretty bad so after ticket sales drop off they will be on the hunt again for a new city or buyer.

Again their have been no quality white american players since bird...all the
Wow, you're dumb. Kevin Love is a pretty good player, isn't he? Troy Murphy was a pretty good player wasn't he? David Lee is a pretty good player, isn't he? You're a racist moron.

Dont blame Jimmer he knows he cant really be an impact player in the NBA, but I wouldnt turn down free $$$......
He knows he can shoot, create off the dribble and play 100%. That translates to a guy who can play at any level. Moron.

I could make the same comment about black NFL quarterbacks.  But then I would be fired.
