Joakim Noah is going overseas to play basketball.

No, not in the Deron Williams way of signing a contract to play professionally. According to ESPN Chicago, Noah is planning to play for Team France in the Euro Championship this August and September. France's first game is Aug. 31 against Latvia.

Noah has dual citizenship in the United States and France, and he is expected to remain overseas for the next two months as the lockout drags on, according to the report.

Noah averaged 11.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game in just 48 games as he was limited to some degree because of injury. He didn't play for France last summer in the World Championships in Turkey, but probably because of the lockout, he is looking to stay sharp and get some good burn in case training camp is delayed.

The European Championships serve as a qualifier for the Olympic Games, and with France having some soldi talent, led by Nicolas Batum, the team could make a little noise in the tournament. If it could just bring in someone like Tony Parker to go along with Noah, then France could jump to being a favorite.

Joakim Noah to play for France?

His father is French and he lived in France for most of his childhood. Why would he not play for France? Good for him.

His Noah playing for France, Deng for England and Asik for Turkey, the Bulls are becoming quite the international team.

Good one onken, glad someone knows how to read... CBS should require an IQ in double digits to comment on the boards. Way to make 'proud' Americans look like ignorant tools boys.

Hahaha.... Well, of course, he is. He would never make Team USA anyway. All the power to him.

If these boards prove anything, its that people will whine about anything.  Who cares if he plays for France?  It's not like he'd make an U.S. squad.  And since you obviously don't get out much, most European countries honor citizenship rights based on whether their parents were born there.  Since his mom was a Swedish citizen when he was born, he could probably go play for Sweden as well.

He also, you know, grew up in France.  Spent most of his pre-college years there.

"to all of a sudden claim he's French is ridiculous"......it might be.  If that's what happened.  There's a whole big ol' world out there beyond the Florida state line, and some it's actually pretty cool.

Joakim Noah to play for France?

Oh, I get his dad won the French Open 25 years ago but what makes this guy French?  Born in America.  What if someone called him a traitor?  Is that the same thing as Kobe or DJackson misusing the word f----t?  If I was a pro-athlete or even played for the Bulls I would call him out.  Look, I realize that France hasn't won anything in over 200 years but to all of a sudden claim he's French is ridiculous.  If you like red clay, stay there.

I would say this makes perfect sense, but the way he was injured this last season it seems like he would want to rest his body. Along with the fact that the Bulls will be making another 50+ win season and going to the playoffs, if France goes deep in the tournament, couldn't this tire him out if there is a next season? Seems like this increases the odds he has a flat year next season.

I'd rather he rest his body or maybe work on some low post moves (paging Mr. Olajuwon...), but from the looks of it, this may be the only organized basketball he'll be playing for awhile Cry
