You may not remember Rodney White, but in 2001 the Pistons made him the No. 9 overall pick after an impressive career at UNC-Charlotte. He never really amounted to much in the NBA, but here he is 10 years later making headlines. Not the kind you hope for though.

According to the Charlotte Observer, White, 31, was arrested and charged with managing what investigators called "an elaborate" marijuana-growing operation in Alexander and Iredell counties in North Carolina.

"During the search, an elaborate underground bunker was located, where detectives found a hidden marijuana grow room," Redmond said.

Investigators said the bunker was under a garage that had a trap door, and they say some of the approximately 60 plants were up to 4 feet tall.

Based on that discovery, agents got a search warrant for a residence on Montibello Drive in Mooresville. Redmond said detectives found more than four pounds of marijuana; an assortment of firearms; grow lights; planting materials; and other items used to grow marijuana. Investigators said they also found items that linked the residence to the Alexander County operation.

Detectives received a tip about the operation and the two men involved -- White being one -- admitted guilt. White is jailed under $25,000 bond, and his partner is being held under $5,000 bond.
White played parts of five seasons in the NBA but sort of fizzled out. He played some professionally in Europe and Asia but never lived up to his lottery status. During his five years he played for the Nuggets, Warriors and 76ers before being cut by Philadelphis in 2005 and ending his NBA career. He had recently signed a contract with Anyang in South Korea.

In five seasons, White appeared in just 218 games and averaging 7.1 points per game. His best season was in 2002-03 with the Nuggets where he started 19 games for the 17-win Nuggets that year and averaged nine points a game.

Former lottery pick arrested for growing weed

What a dummy. I remember they were saying Dumars got the "steal of the draft" with this guy at #9. This guy was a bust but he should've accumulated millions after playing in the NBA 5 seasons, not to mention internationally. I agree that weed should be legal, but that's neither here nor there. I think a'lot of people are naive about growing plants and the legal implications. Even if they claim it's for personal use it'll still send them to prison for a long time.

Look you stoner...60 plants is alot
lol, well its all about how you look at it. i doubt the news outlets would know this, but having 60 plants doesnt mean that all 60 will crop out and give you bud

you have to figure that half with be male, making the plant useles (its a 50/50 chance of being either male or female... i wont get in to hermie plants, but you get the idea)

so that drops from 60 to 30. and factor in that out of the 30 females, 2/3 of the plants will actually make it to croping, so its 20 plants you can without a doubt count on for giving you bud.

each plant can yield roughly around 4 ounces (1/4 lbs) so thats roughly 5 pounds of weed right there. depending on your market, and the quality of the product, thats decent money. but hardly enough to be considered a "major grow op"

granted, he could be using all feminized seeds, which would then bring that figure to 40 plants potencially cropping out giving you 10 lbs. and it sounded like it was a hydro op, so one can assume its good kryp. but at this point its all semantics Tongue out

this is sad. i mean really, anything under 100 plants is nothing more  than amatuer. im tired of reading about these "major" busts on grow ops and they have like 50-60 plants.

i know of at least 5 different grow opts up in boca that have well over 300 plants. you would think with the money this guy made he would have been able to grow more plants, and been able to pay off the right people
