On Saturday, European soccer powerhouses Manchester United and FC Barcelona met in Washington, D.C., for an exhibition match that reportedly drew more than 81,000 fans. Manchester United emerged with the 2-1 victory, and in addition to the goals scored by Nani, Thiago and Michael Owen, Los Angeles Lakers All-Star guard Kobe Bryant added one of his own.
Taking the field at halftime of the match, Bryant was captured on the video posted below casually juggling a soccer ball before knocking a volley into the net. Later, with the crowd's interest growing, Bryant lined up to take a penalty kick. Even as the goalkeeper faked from side to side, Bryant calmly drilled a shot into the lower left corner before accepting congratulations from the assembled dignitaries.
While posters for Turkish Airlines --a Bryant sponsor -- were on the field during his halftime show, multiple reports on Sunday indicated that Bryant would not be joining Turkish basketball club Besiktas if a work stoppage results from the ongoing NBA lockout. Bryant was supposedly scheduled to meet with Besiktas officials this weekend.
