Some dunks are so magnificent that not even the censorship might of Nike can suppress their greatness.

Miami Heat All-Star forward LeBron James has spent most of the summer beating up on little kids in games of knockout at basketball camps across the United States. Recently, James and Nike kicked off a tour of Asia with the goal of spreading the King's greatness internationally. Instead, he took a dunk to the face from a Taiwanese basketball player.

A NikeMedia.com account provides the backdrop -- an All-Star game in Taipei -- even if it leaves out the part in which James gets his pocket picked and dunked on in transition.
James was announced as coach of the White Team, while Taiwanese women’s hoops legend, Qian Weijuan, coached the Red Team.

But, unsatisfied with either the score, 24-22 Red at half, or his status as coach, James unexpectedly took the court in the second half to play alongside the White Team. Not content to just coast, James threw down a series of vicious dunks to open the half, highlighted by a self off-the-backboard pass which he threw down with one hand. As the game wore on, James increased the intensity and blocked three shots on three straight possessions, each swat more spectacular than the last. First, James raced back on defense to get one of his signature chase-down blocks to thwart an easy lay-up. Then, he stonewalled a player going above the rim for a dunk before finally pinning another player’s driving bank shot to the backboard.

“I was prepared to coach,” admitted James to reporters after the game. “But, I saw how much fun those kids were having out there and I wanted to join them and be a part of the whole experience.”

That back-rubbing, ego-stroking press release couldn't erase the fact that James lost his handle while dribbling the ball between his legs just outside the three-point line, leaving an opening for his defender to reach in and knock the ball into the open court. James was caught by surprise as his opponent corralled the loose ball and took it towards the hoop in transition. Rather than get between his man and the basket, James opted to time a chasedown block attempt from behind. His opponent rose with surprising ferocity and finished with two hands, and James was only able to swat at air, much to the crowd's enjoyment.

To cap the moment, smoke shot out from the basketball hoop into the air. James responded to the dunk about as well as he responded to criticism in the NBA Finals, rushing down court, travelling (there was no call) and then throwing the ball out of bounds. Just an incredible sequence. Give it a look below.

The Heat need to sign this kid as a reminder to LeBron what happens when you slack off.

This is dumb news. It looks like he is not even trying.  Obviously the kid is gonna try his hardest to make LB look stupid, but really LB wasn't even trying.

It's a pathetic statement about the author and "fans" posting here.  James has become so reviled by so many that those people now exhibit the same classless traits that got James in so much hot water.

The story is ridiculous.  Condemning James for being in the game is ridiculous.  Dwayne Wade did the same thing in a game in China just a few days ago but it's taken differently.  If you've ever been part of a basketball clinic or pro-athlete-coached exhibition, or even attended one, you'd know that the excitement level goes UP when the pro decides to change shoes and get into the game.

I've been dunked on and it looks nothing like this.  To people who actually play and understand the game, it typically means you're actually between the man and the basket and he throws down on you.  No one gets posterized by swatting at the ball from behind.  I got lazy on my blockout and got dunked on so bad I think both of the guy's elbows were in the rim.  It was so bad everyone fell out, and since it was and organized tryout, there were a few dozen players who got a good laugh at my expense.  But this isn't that.  It's boring, and it's a completely misleading title.  You want to argue otherwise, it's obvious you haven't played.  The sad thing is, Golliver knows this and wrote it anyway.  Guys are so anxious to get the next jab out at James they ignore both ethics and reality.

Funny thing is, there are so many people posting over the top or false statements about James that it seems inevitable to have the opposite effect of what they're looking for.  Beat a guy down long enough in this country and eventually he becomes the underdog and people start rallying behind him.

And for anyone who thinks this clip is anything remarkable, get off your couches once in awhile.  If you live in any big basketball area, you can see similar stuff every day.  I used to play pickup in Oakland and Chris Mullin and Gary Payton would show up.  Lloyd Moseby of the Blue Jays and A's would play, and a kid named Jason Kidd would run.  And stuff like this happened all the time.  You get athletes together and this kind of thing is inevitable.

James likely thrilled the entire stadium and both teams by getting into the game.  He played a crappy 30 second sequence here, and made one guy's best story better than most of ours, but keep it in context, people.

LeBron James gets dunked on by Taiwanese player

  • Kid stole ball from LeBron, takes it to the house and dunks on him
  • LeBron gets inbound pass, takes it to the paint, then makes shitty pass that goes out of bounds
  • Same kid who dunked on him (who James is supposed to be guarding) hits wide open 3pt shot

Just the fact that he was supposed to be coaching and pulled out one of his players to play himself, is proof that he is an ego-maniac.
"I saw how much fun they were having and I wanted to join them." I bet the kid you benched wasn't having any fun.
