Kobe Bryant apparently attended church at St. Therese at Carmel in Carmel Valley on Sunday. At one point, he apparently thought a man was snapping photos of him on his cellphone. And that's where things get hazy. From 10News in San Diego:
Sources told 10News Bryant was attending a church service at St. Therese of Carmel in Carmel Valley Sunday and thought someone was taking pictures of him with a cellphone.

According to police, Bryant took the phone from the man, did not see any pictures and then left the church.

The man claims he injured his wrist in the incident and had to go to the hospital for treatment.

Already, the claims of the man just looking for money are out there, but the police being involved is a little bit higher of a concern, as is the fact that sources beyond the injured man are cited in the report. This could very well be the last we hear of the incident if police conclude there's nothing to it. If it does continue though, it could be a headache for Bryant.

Because, you know, he really hasn't had enough trouble in the past fourteen years.

Here's a question. Doesn't Bryant have protection, in terms of bodyguards? Wouldn't they be the best to take care of this situation? Is there a reason Bryant himself is confronting anyone, if the allegations are true?

Well, it's Kobe. So that means the comments should alternate with premature defense and attacks on his character over an uncomfirmed incident.

Report: Bryant allegedly injures man in church

Yeah, you'll get him good in court...because of innapropriate pics taken IN CHURCH!!! That's how you'll win, right? REALLY, America? I hate HATE HATE Kobe, by the way, but some places are just off limits for normal harrassment of celebrities. And the lawsuit is a joke; he knew when he took the phone he was paying a settlement. REALLY, though? We'll be washing dishes, living off welfare, and selling dope because... there aren't any sports to play? Or is there something else you want to illiterate to the people of CBSSports.com? I wonder what persuasion you're of, Mr. or Mrs Redwing? (coincidentally, I'm a Blackhawks fan and want your team to die in Hell. But not because they can only live lowly, semi-criminal lives without Hockey. Just pure hatred is all.)
But either way, I'm not so sure he's gonna win anything in court besides his phone replaced and a "little" compensation. Damages? Pschological trauma? Lost Wages? Gimme a break...Kobe's lawyers are waiting to get paid for this one; the other guy, not so much unless he happens to be SUPER RICH as well. That is the American legal system; everybody wants to sue for free money, but very few deserving folks get what their entitled to. And this guy isn't seeming too deserving. Just My Opinion. Have a good day, sir, madam, whatever...

Also too bad that some gut can't just ask for his cell phone back and get it without acting like a pussy and claiming his wrist was hurt. If it was hurt he must be quite a delicate flower, err I mean gold digger

I love it when you people call everybody a "gold digger" that sues athletes but when an athlete on your favourite team who has sometimes made 30 or 40 or 50 million dollar holds out for more money and/or demands to be traded and spits in your face most of you blame the team for not giving him whatever he wants.  How does that make any sense???

I've never sued anybody in my life but the day an athlete takes or wrestles anything I own out of my hands damn right I'll get the bastard good in court.  Who the hell are these athletes to think they can do that?   Before he grabbed that phone he couldn't prove one way or another if the guy was taking a picture of him or not.  Since when does Kobe Bryant have the right to touch other people or their property?

You guys need to get out of the pants of these athletes and understand they are just playing a game that we like to watch. Yes, they are talented but they have no more rights then you or I do.  They invented nothing and they've created nothing.  They aren't even responsible for the marketing of the game they profit from.  When all of these players retire the next group of players will do just as well..... and why is that again? Because the league they play in takes care of business, markets their product which makes these idiot athletes relevant in today's society. If not for that most of these guys would either be dealing drugs, washing dishes or living in the hood on welfare.

Um, why?  If the guy filed a police report then they have to investigate--doesn't mean the allegations are true or false, just that they've been made and the police are doing their job.  "Cited in the report" for what?  Of course there are other witnesses--it was during a church service so I'd be surprised if there were not witnesses listed but that does not say what they witnessed or who's version of events they will support.  Need more details.

Wow! I wonder what the sermon was on that day? If your brother offends thee pluck his cell phone from his hand. Do not bear false witness unless unwanted photography is involved. Seems as though the point of going to church was lost in the shuffle (or scuffle)

Report: Bryant allegedly injures man in church

Bottom line, in my opinion, (1) if the guy was taking pictures of Kobe in church he's a jerk; claiming a wrist injury and hospital treatments from someone grabbing his cell phone and trying to cash in makes him a colassal jerk and, if there is no injury, he should be prosecuted for, at a minimum, filing a false police report; (2) Kobe, as big a fan as I am, if he took the guys phone to check for pictures, overreacted and could be guilty of a very low-level misdemeanor or simple city ordinance "assault" violation -- look for "deferred prosecution" or a small fine and probation.  Small story overall, if there was no lockout this would not be major news.

I'm just glad Kobe went to church.

This would have never happened if you stayed in Lower Merion and attended Narberth Presbyterian! cell phones may go off during the service, but nobody would be snapping pictures.

no point commenting on the actual story since its all conjecture..

Report: Bryant allegedly injures man in church

It's all pretty simple people! You shouldn't be taking pictures of anyone at church! and this douche claiming injury is just another example of the pussification of america! A sue for money assjack. He should have been left alone, dude could have waited until the service was over!

Remember, if a famous person thinks you might be doing something he doesn't like, he has the right to forcibly confiscate your property.

Report: Bryant allegedly injures man in church

Yea well Kobe was within his right.  If your sitting in church and someone is taking photos of you  - You can go over  and tell them to knock it off.  Why not?

So if some paranoid imbecile gets the notion in his head that I am taking picture of him, he has the right to walk up to me, forcibly take my phone, and then get away with it?  Do you know that even the police can't do that without a warrant if they think you just filmed a murder?

This guy almost certainly did not need to go to the hospital right away and probably is looking for a pay out, but if this story is true, and apparently there are independent witnesses, Kobe did commit a crime.  You are not allowed to do that to other people.  Even if they are annoying.  Being rich and famous doesn't give you the right to confiscate the personal property of others if they displease you.
