Javaris Crittenton, a former NBA player best known for being suspended by the league for bringing a gun into the Washington Wizards' locker room, has been charged with murder in the shooting of a woman in Atlanta.

From WSBTV in Atlanta
An arrest warrant has been issued for former NBA player and Georgia Tech star Javaris Crittenton in connection with the shooting death of a mother of four, Atlanta police said.

The shooting happened Aug. 19 shortly before 10 p.m. in the 2900 block of Macon Drive in southwest Atlanta.

Investigators said 22-year-old Jullian Jones was walking with others when someone from a dark SUV opened fire. Jones was struck and later died.

The report also states that the targets were two unarmed men in the company of the victim and the shooting is believed to be in retaliation for a robbery of Crittenton in April.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the FBI is involved in the investigation, and that Crittenton is not in custody, as he's currently in L.A. The two men believed to be the target were unharmed and fled the scene. The AJC reports that several people witnessed the shooting.

NBA LEGAL TROUBLE

An athletic guard with handle, Crittenton was drafted by the Lakers, and was then traded to the Grizzlies in the Pau Gasol deal, then later dealt to the Wizards. He infamously became entrenched in the bet that wound up with Gilbert Arenas bringing out his guns in the locker room, with Crittenton making similar threats. He was signed briefly with the Bobcats before the 2010-2011 season but was waived prior the season and finished the year with the D-League.

More from the Associated Press report:
Jones, a mother of four, was walking with a group of people on the city's southwest side when she was shot by someone inside a dark-colored SUV, police said.

Investigators say they don't believe the woman was the intended target. Campos said the motive appears to be retaliation for a robbery in April, in which Crittenton was a victim.

Crittenton was suspended for the final 38 games of the 2009-10 season by the NBA after he and Arenas acknowledged bringing guns into the locker room. Two days after a dispute stemming from a card game on a team flight, Arenas brought four guns to the locker room and set them in front of Crittenton's locker with a sign telling him to "PICK 1." Crittenton then took out his own gun.

Crittenton pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge on Jan. 25, 2010, and received probation.

After the Wizards declined to re-sign him, he signed a non-guaranteed contract with Charlotte before last season. The Bobcats waived him Oct. 15, and he then played five games in China for the Zhejiang Guangsha Lions, averaging 25.8 points. He also played 20 games for the NBDL's Dakota Wizards, averaging 14.3 points.

Crittenton was drafted 19th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2007. He played little with Los Angeles and was traded to Memphis in his rookie year, then to Washington in December 2008.

Crittenton averaged 5.3 points and 1.8 assists in 113 NBA games.

Well put Noles, however read most of the comments on this subject and it is easy to see the cords of race and hatred firmly attached.  Most of the guys playing in the NBA and NFL are black, so if a crime is committed by someone in one of those leagues the probability is that they will be black, and it will be highly publicized.  If you compare the crime rate of the general public versus that of pro athletes, the latter is significantly lower.  What if I wrote: Every time I turn on CNN another white man has been identified as a serial killer, child molester, or planning a terrorist plot against his own country?  While every man that has ever done these things is not white, the most notorious and most publicized offenders are.  It is not a race issue when people in our society commit the most heinous crimes.  Every race is capable of it, just as all races are capable of writing some of the most ridiculous comments on this subject.  Education and parenting are the guard rails that often keep people out of the ditches of deplorable behavior.

As for the blame game as you mentioned.  I agree that it is easy for people to blame others for their own actions.  Once again, I must reference the numerous comments on this headline that conveyed no empathy for the victim or children, as well as a rush to condemn a whole race because of the actions of one.  How many of you would stand behind your comments if your job, family, friends, or pastor could read them?  How many of you sit at the keyboard in attempt to incite others, and then go out and portray yourself as the model co-worker, husband, wife, father, mother, or friend? I wonder who made you write such lunacy.  Was it the “white man”?  Was it the “black man”?  Was it the "brown man"?  Or was it lack of two key ingredients in your life that has, on numerous occasions, prevented me from traveling down a path cluttered with mug shots and stupidity.

Please do not mistake this as the defense of the athlete or the action because if true, I hope he is punished to the fullest extent of the law.  However, my heart aches at the thought of four young children growing up without their mother.  I also pray for the soul of an individual that was gunned down in the prime of her life.  I am amazed at the lack of human compassion in this age of twitter and message boards.  I have to keep reminding myself that technology did not change the character of individuals, it just revealed it.  It is often then one of the numerous times that I thank God for two spectacular parents and an awesome education.

Noles, thank you for the comments.  I am a Clemson graduate and look forward to seeing you guys in The Valley this year!  GO TIGERS!!

who cares about this retard thug nigga. hes demonstrating TNB!! total nigga behavior. yea it may sound racist but isnt it true about 90% of the blacks from the hood. are they not all mostly thug pieces of shit gangsters?

@boomer12.  Is your term TNB "total nigga behavior" only meant to describe black men.  If so, I suggest you be a man and use this term in front of a black man.  I guarantee you will learn a valuable lesson that day.

When Ben Rothlesburger raped that college girl, was that TNB too?  When that Atlanta thrasher was DUI and killed his teamate, was that TNB? Was Cassie Anthony TNB?

I am not defending this situation, but it is unamerican to judge and convict an American citizen without due process.

@The Stranger.  I am not defending the crime or the criminal.  I just think before we convict ANYONE (civilized or uncivilized), they should have due process in the court of law.  That term "uncivilized animals," who are you refering to?  Poor people?  Welfare recipiants?  What does an alledged millionaire murderer have to do with have to do with "Nothing to work hard for, content to let WHITEY give handouts, placing further strain on the American taxpayer."  Leads me to belive there is a racial undertone here.  Am I correct to make that assumption?

Are you saying WHITEY is the US Government?  I agree, the poor and disenfranchised population are a strain on the American taxpayer, but what is our alternative to welfare?  I agree, some athletes are ignorant dicks, but to put professional athletes and "free handout recipiants" in the same category is just plain wrong.

Another thug piece of crap with a little money. If he did this and is found guilty, I hope he never gets out of jail. Give all his money to the woman's kids so they escape this crap culture that fosters this kind of behavior. Like someone else said, be a real man and be strong enough to walk away from idiots- don't be a thug coward and pull a gun, then kill an innocent mom. How can anyone defend this moron at all?

Here is some more Info !!!

When he saw the person he believed robbed him, a former NBA player and Georgia Tech standout fired gunshots from a black SUV, striking a 23-year-old mother of four, Atlanta police said.  Read more after the jump.

Brian Kersey, APFormer Georgia Tech and NBA player Javaris Crittenton, is wanted in connection with an Atlanta murder.  Julian Jones, 23, was killed in a drive-by shooting on Aug. 19. A murder warrant in the slaying has been issued for former Georgia Tech star Javaris Crittenton.

Now, Javaris Crittenton, 23, faces a murder charge in the death of Jullian Jones, authorities said Friday night.

“It appears Mr. Crittenton observed who he thought was the perpetrator walking down the street,” Major Keith Meadows told the AJC. “It so happens Miss Jones was walking down the street at the same time.”

Jones was walking with others near her Macon Drive home in southwest Atlanta around 10 p.m. Aug. 19 when she was shot, police said. Several witnesses told police the shots were fired from a black Chevrolet Tahoe.

Jones was struck in the leg and later died during surgery. Two men walking with Jones fled and were not injured, and investigators now believe one of those men was the intended target.

Investigators believe Crittenton may have been seeking retaliation after being robbed of his jewelry April 21, Meadows said. Crittenton reported that crime to police.

Crittenton is not in custody and is believed to be in the greater Los Angeles area, Meadows said. Atlanta detectives are working with the FBI to take him into custody.

Crittenton charged with murder of Atlanta woman

Stories along these lines surface routinely. Go back to the 60's when there were only about 16 MLB teams..6 NHL and maybe 10 NBA and this sort of thing just simply did not happen. I saw the Chicago Bulls play a game in their innaugural season--about '67-'68 against the now defunct Cincy Royals and the GREAT Oscar Roberston who AVERAGED a triple double for a whole season (Jerry Lucas was also on that team). The Bulls, with a rookie named Jerry Sloan and a great guard named Guy Rodgers won that night.

Hey, it's 2011...there are a lot of things that go on now a days that didn't back then....nice trip down memory lane,. but it has little to nothing to do with this story.
