President Obama 'heartbroken' by NBA lockout

You were starting to believe all the talk that nobody cared about the ongoing NBA lockout, weren't you? Well, cameras found at least one person that still cares. And he cares deeply.

President of the United States Barack Obama told reporters at a Florida fundraiser on Tuesday that the ongoing NBA lockout -- which resulted in the cancellation of the first two weeks of the regular season on Monday -- has left him "heartbroken."

"I have to say, that backstage I had a chance to see [Orlando Magic center] Dwight Howard," Obama said. "Dwight is a great friend. I told him, 'I'm a little heartbroken that the NBA season is getting delayed here.' I'm hoping those guys are back on the court soon."

Obama made the comments at a fundraiser for his 2012 presidential re-election campaign at Orlando's downtown Sheraton. Tickets for the event, according to the Orlando Sentinel, cost between $44 and $250.

A basketball die-hard, Obama never strays far from the NBA game. In the last twelve months alone, the President has zinged Boston Celtics guard Rajon Rondo over his poor shooting, awarded legendary center Bill Russell with the Medal of Freedom, talked some trash with Los Angeles Lakes guard Kobe Bryant and invited Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant to play with him in an informal pickup game.

Here's video of Obama's remarks uploaded by YouTube user dentoneable.

I'm heartbroken that this country will probably be speaking Chinese in 20 years.  I'm heartbroken that I'll never have retirement money.  I'm heartbroken that my thousands per year in tax dollars go to other countries instead of this one.  But yeah, this is a much bigger deal.  Poor Obama, no NBA.  What will he do?

Why doesn't this bonehead worry about something important -noooooooooooo I don't mean getting re-elected........worry about getting 16,000,000 un or underemployed people back to work.

He's waiting for his imposed unemployment and 14 trillion dollar debt to force the US into socialism. Sorry Hussain, U.S.citizens are smarter than that. Maybe when we throw your butt out of office in 13 months you can go back to being a licensed crook in Chicago with your boy Raub.

Can't blame rep. for shooting down ideas that haven't ever worked.  First president ever that will come in and end in a recession.  Congrats for being stupid.

When is the Commander in Joke going to offer a bailout to the NBA?  I think this would fit perfectly with the ridiculous fiscal policy he currently employs.  In addition the lockout can't look good for his unemployment numbers.  I also wonder if these players will be given extended unemployment benefits during their time of need.  Doesn't this clown of a President have more pressing matters to worry about?  Hey Barack, why don't you put down the golf clubs, stop playing pick up, and do your job?  Being the President must be "fantastic".

@whitecat "Obama tries to tax the top 1 percent of America by letting the Bush  Trickle down tax breaks for the top 1 percent  earners expire, is denied by Republicans who threaten to shut the government down"

The Bush tax cuts are a cut on payroll taxes, everyone who gets a paycheck benefits, not just the "top 1 percent". If you are talking about the true top 1%, this refers to multi-millionares and billionares who do not have income in the form of "payroll". For the most part these people make a profit from capital gains, which is not affected by the Bush tax cuts. Try to stop being such a moron and instead of parroting libtard talking points, educate yourself on the subject.

White Cat...yes, thank goodness Obama was shot down and continues to get shot down.  Democrats=tax the rich more, penalize them for their success.  Great american motto-- penalize the successful.  Democrats are great at demanding that everyone else spend all their money, but don't want to give any of their own.  who cares about Obama's view on the NBA--"heart broken?" wow.

The Republicans have played stellar defense on Obama shutting him down.

Obama tries to tax the top 1 percent of America by letting the Bush  Trickle down tax breaks for the top 1 percent  earners expire, is denied by Republicans who threaten to shut the government down.

Obama tries to pass numerous stimulus bills to help the middle class and poor and they are all denied by Republicans.

Obama tries to pass numerous job creation bills to help the middle class and poor and they are all crushed by Republicans.

Obama tries to get healthcare for every American. Stymied by court battles by Republicans.

Republicans who are supported by the top 1 percent wealth owners 4, Obama 0.
