Report: League official: Garnett halted progress

Over the weekend, we told you about how a few of the NBA's heaviest hitters intervened in labor negotiations, possibly halting some of the progress. But according to Yahoo! Sports, "halting" isn't exactly the right word for what Kevin Garnett did.
This fight has grown nastier, more personal, in the past weeks. Privately, management insists that everything changed when the Boston Celtics’ Kevin Garnett walked into the negotiating room on Oct. 4. The owners knew it wouldn’t go well when Garnett started glowering across the table, sources said, like the league lawyers, owners and officials were opponents at the center jump. He was defiant, determined and downright ornery. He was K.G. Everyone knew Hunter had to cede to the wishes of the stars, and the stars demanded that the players stop making confessions to the owners.

As one league official said, “We were making progress, until Garnett [expletive] everything up.”

Well then. I don't know how one guy could walk into a bargaining environment that he hadn't been in yet and blow everything to pieces, but it sounds like Garnett may have done exactly that. Pointing fingers? Yelling? Just being Kevin Garnett in general? There's no telling, but according to this report, it wasn't good.

Players need to be involved because this is their deal. But with superstars comes egos. They've always gotten what they wanted and feel entitled to not just have their voice heard (loudly), but also for their opinion to be taken seriously. And that's likely what happened when Kobe, Garnett and others strolled into the talks.

It sounds a bit dramatic that Garnett "bleeped" everything up, but who knows. Labor negotiations are a delicate thing and maybe Garnett said something that made other players dig in their heels. Maybe he said something that ticked off owners and did likewise for them. Who knows.

All we really know is that it's Oct. 17 and there's still not a deal.

This is dumb.

There is no less reliable source than the opposing side of a negotiation.  IF Garnett made any impact at all, no one knows what it is.  The "league source" could have been enjoying a day when ownership was handily winning the negotiation and Garnett said, "whoa, what's going on here?  We're not doing that."  IF he had any impact at all.

Why even "write" an article like this?

A guy on one side of the negotiation table said he didn't like the guy on the other side of the table.  Nice "article".

First off there is no way you can compare professional sports to the real world of labor, I have yet to see a buisness that pays this kind of money top to bottom to their employees.  I am a part time fan of the game only watching during the playoffs so I'll take college basketball from now on.  It is a more realistic view of the original game anyway. Actually High School is even closer to the real deal.

Happy to see KG screw some things up!
I for one does not care one bit if there is a season this year or the next for that matter!
It is the owners who risk everything and the players risk nothing!
So Billy Hunter, keep raising the stakes so I don't have to watch this silly game and then all your players will have to go out and get REAL jobs! So get a little more greedy..I for one will be laughing my butt off when all your players will be wondering what happened to them!!

NO NBA IN 2011/2012 OR 2012/2013  HAHAHA

Everyone can go to TURKEY and play there!!!!!
See ya in a few years NBA!!!!  HAHAHAHAHA

Garnett's attitude has never been in question. But was is in question is Sterns capabilities as a commishioner to get the job done. He has been a failure. It is people who don't or can't handle the TRUTH!. Lets face it..these overpaid yellowbellies in suits don't like to be told to shut up and listen. Its that simple. They(owners/Stern)need to listen to the players. The players make this league. Screw the owners. Start your own league

Heres one to chew on some are saying the players are greedy dont give them such and  such well who was ot that gave them the big contracts in the first place uuhhmm the owners now all of a s udden we are losing money I like what the players ay show us where and how you are losing money open the books and prove it . Its crazy when you pick out a handful of guys who are getting payed very well to excell at a sport then when the owners who are filthy rich say we cant afford it and point a finger at the players saying look how greedy they are  and cover there cash so people cant see ti is crazy. Then the fans are screaming look at these uneducated people make all that money and complain when they get locked out of there job. Understand whats happened the owners locked the doors and said we are not going togive you what we said we were we cant afford it. The players didnt walkout the owners did. The players want to play heres something else to chew on how about all the people who work the games do the fans realize the owners locked these people out as well. Heres my last point who of you out there is willing to let the owner of their buisness just shut the doors and not say something or if they had the power do something about it That is what the players are doing the union gives them the right and ability to have a say in this if not the owners would pay these guys the very least they could its called buisness both sides are runnings a buisness. Oh and by the way the owners are stupid if they let it cave in look at hockey and baseball let let it cave in and how long did it take to get it rolling again they better figure out how to fix this are you league is in big trouble not just for this year

Hey K.G., you aren't gonna bully the owners like you would a short European white guy. It just doesn't work that way in the real world. Go find a beach where you can kick some sand in the face of someone you think is beneath you.

More "keyboard courage" I see...can"t imagine any of you clowns questioning one of these players intelligence to their faces! If any of you jackasses were offered 100 MILLION to leave college early, you'd be on the first thing smoking! If not, then it would be your intelligence coming into question! Grab a glove and get in the game, knuckleheads

What do you expect from a guy who has no education and has always been a spolied brat. Take away the height, the scowl, the dirty looks, and he's a baby in a bib.He has made in the 100's of millions playing this game, what does he have to whine about? Maybe upset that father time is ticking away on the Celtics hopes of winning anything for the next 10 years at the least, and that his career is ticking away with it? Great player, but his attitude has always been questionable.
