The Big Threatener.

In a new autobiography, NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal admits that he told former Los Angeles Lakers teammate Kobe Bryant that he would kill him.

O'Neal and Bryant teamed up for three titles with the Lakers but engaged in a public war of words that eventually led the Lakers to trade O'Neal to the Miami Heat. In his new book, Shaq Uncut: My Story, O'Neal says he took issue with Bryant giving public statements about how he was out of shape and faking an injury after Lakers brass requested the two stop squawking. O'Neal was so upset about the comments, he writes, that he threatened to murder Bryant during an argument about Bryant's sexual assault case in Colorado.

Here's an excerpt posted on
Kobe stands up and goes face-to-face with me and says, "You always said you're my big brother, you'd do anything for me, and then this Colorado thing happens and you never even called me." I did call him. ... So here we are now, and we find out he really was hurt that we didn't stand behind him. That was something new. I didn't think he gave a rat's ass about us either way. "Well, I thought you'd publicly support me, at least," Kobe said. "You're supposed to be my friend."

Brian Shaw chimed in with "Kobe, why would you think that? Shaq had all these parties and you never showed up for any of them. We invited you to dinner on the road and you didn't come. Shaq invited you to his wedding and you weren't there. Then you got married and didn't invite any of us. And now you are in the middle of this problem, this sensitive situation, and now you want all of us to step up for you. We don't even know you." ... Everyone was starting to calm down when I told Kobe, "If you ever say anything like what you said to Jim Gray ever again, I will kill you."

Kobe shrugged and said, "Whatever."
Wow. Well, it clearly got personal. There wasn't ever much doubt about that.

How seriously should we take O'Neal's threat here? O'Neal has tried to establish a law enforcement career but has also been involved in a number of suits that allege all sorts of crazy behavior, including kidnapping and hit men. I suppose if Bryant reacted dismissively, the danger can't have been that real. But the dysfunction was as authentic as it gets.

O'Neal announced his retirement from the NBA back in June and joined TNT as an NBA commentator in July.

Shaq: I told Kobe Bryant I would kill him

Yet more proof that Kobe was just as good as Michael... on the court (as a player and winning) and off the court (as an a^^face and jagoff).

I think these two were somehow from the same womb!!!

PS - And not by coincidence, Phil Jackson is always standing nearby.  Read his own book, the man is the actual Devil.

"NBA legend"... Really?!!! Also, during this current Lockout, they need to put a tatoo on the arm of the NBA logo so it can better represent when put on trophies.

Shaq: I told Kobe Bryant I would kill him

I have watched the nba since 1972 and shaq was and is still the worst thing that has ever happened to the league. and now we have labron taking over the reigns and ruining it.these guys changed the fundementals by getting the league to accept taking 3 steps (shaq) and now 5 steps (labron) to the hoop and totally ignoring the most basic rule of the game. the rule that from the beginning decided who was good enough to play professional basket as opposed to the rest of the good to great players playing the game. the ability to do moves and get to the hoop with only taking 2 steps in doing so. shaq is an uneducated thug who in my mind has never won an nba championship . .... and i'm a huge Laker fan. kobe is guilty of what????? being mature??????i have a job and get invited to do outside work gatherings all the time but i have a family and can't go to most of it. It's called a real life......

Shaq was great for the NBA. He sold tons of tickets. He won 4 Championships, and most importantly, he did, and still does, tons of stuff for kids who like basketball. Youth camps, fundraising for schools, etc. And I understand not going out and partying, but to not go to your "freinds" wedding, common now. I have a wife and 2 children, one of my close freinds got married in August, I took the whole family. That is a family gathering. And to not even invite your "freinds" to your own wedding, then expect them to be your "freinds" when you NEED them, that is just crazy. Read the article again, nobody was talking about going out to clubs every weekend, it was about not going to places that you can and should take your whole family, that is if he is a real freind, like you want him to be when you are up against the wall and need him.

ah yes, avoiding dinner with teammates because of family makes him mature... so what does sodomizing an unwitting female who is not his wife, make him?  Really super duper mature?  Or just a pathological 'me-first' type of guy?

Both of these crybabies are full of crap. Good thing the Pistons put them out of their misery.

Shaq: I told Kobe Bryant I would kill him

The NBA is becoming a soap opera! Long gone are the days of true warriors like Magic and Bird. The game has never been the same since those two left.

@cdiamond Shaq was great for the NBA he sold tickets he was dominant, entertaining, a soundbite for the media and contrary to your belief he did win 4 championships but I totally understood what shaw was saying to Kobe in terms of how he didn't befriend them off the court but wanted the support of a friend when he ran into a wall it wasn't necessarily to me about going to the clubs he didn't come to the mans wedding or invite them to his or even bring his family over for dinner or support shaq and the rest of his teammates in anything they did away from the court but when Kobe got into a jam he wanted his teammates to support him away from the court its a difference when you cant go party with the guys because you have a family most of those guys would understand because they have family's as well but when you totally distance yourself from your teammates and have no connection with them outside of your job and don't have the desire too you cant expect them to be friends with you at your convenience
