Shaquille O'Neal's biography may wind up being the best-selling basketball biography of all time, simply because he tells enough dirt to get sales to an obscene level. After describing in detail his feud with Kobe Bryant (including saying he was going to "kill him") the latest excerpt leaked talks about another of the three superstars Shaq played with since 2000. This time, it's LeBron James. HoopsWorld has the excerpt:
LeBron was a huge star. He was as big as I was in 2000 in L.A. when I was dominating the league. … Our coach, Mike Brown, was a nice guy, but he had to live on edge because nobody was supposed to be confrontational with LeBron. Nobody wanted him to leave Cleveland, so he was allowed to do whatever he wanted to do.

I remember one day in a film session LeBron didn’t get back on defense after a missed shot. Mike Brown didn’t say anything about it. He went to the next clip and it was Mo Williams not getting back and Mike was saying, “Yo, Mo, we can’t have that. You’ve got to hustle a little more.” So Delonte West is sitting there and he’s seen enough and he stands up and says, “Hold up, now. You can’t be pussyfooting around like that. Everyone has to be accountable for what they do, not just some us.” Mike Brown said, “I know, Delonte. I know.” Mike knew Delonte was right. …

I’m not sure if Kobe is going to listen to Mike Brown. LeBron never really did. Here’s what we do know: Kobe will definitely be in charge.

This isn't a huge shocker, it was well known that Cleveland had let James do what he wanted in Cleveland prior to "The Decision" making the choice to leave in the manner he did all the more infuriating. But Mike Brown being rendered incompetent by management or ownership is a disturbing sign. Shaq's assertion that Bryant will run things in L.A. does overlook a pretty significant element, which is Jerry Buss' son Jim Buss being in charge, and looking to move away from the Phil Jackson era, which was Kobe-centric, as much as possible. Brown has said that the new offense will be focused on post play, which means Andrew Bynum, Jim Buss' favorite. Of course, that could just mean that the same problem Brown faced with LeBron in Cleveland could come into play with Bynum in L.A.

O'Neal also touches on Dwight Howard, bringing up the Superman thing again, and simultaneously insulting, challening, and sympathizing with Howard. Let me be yet another in a long line of people to wish O'Neal would drop the Superman thing. The iconic character has been around for over 60 years, Howard's physical makeup and personal ethos are much more in line with the alien superhero, and Howard's "Superman" dunk was a pretty iconic representation. The war is over, sir, you ar the Hall of Famer. Move on.

Dealing with a prima donna like Lebron is like dating a beautiful woman that thinks she can do better than you.  Sure you can jump thru hoops and do back flips trying to impress her but if they have loftier expectation than you, they are going to still bolt and take your self respect with them.  You are better off being yourself and keeping your respect intact.  It makes the recovery so much easier.

Shaq describes Cavaliers pampering LeBron

I know Shaq wants to sell millions of copies of his book and he may exagerate things in it, but does that exerpt about Mike Brown being scared of LeBron really shock anyone?  The guy held the city of Cleveland hostage for years.  Think about it, an entire franchise and city walked on egg shells in fear of him leaving. We all drank the kool-aid and when he made his decision we turned into those "suckers" like the characters in the Tom and Jerry cartoons turn into after being fooled.

Shaq describes Cavaliers pampering LeBron

Shaq needs this type of thing to be relevant. Always entertaining and never shy, he likes to keep himself in the spotlight. Why he constantly drudges up the Kobe rift is immature, especially since he said over and over "Nah bro, that stuff is squashed" then rehashes it every chance he gets. Everyone knows LeBron is the example of a kid/man who has been given a silver spoon in life. That being said, the book still sounds interesting! I heard from Colin Cowherd (the man) that he talks in depth of his rifts with the Heat/Pat Riley. Looking forward to this book and unfortunatly putting more greens in Shaq's pocket. Shaq is like Brett Farve at times, it gets quiet and he he comes to stir the media pot!

Shaq ripping players that most of the public doesn't like is far too easy.  If he is going to burn bridges and do a tell all rub your face in the dirt type book let's have the real dirt.  Talk about point shaving, and fixing games, and all the other dirty secrets too dirty for anyone to imagine.  Maybe after he gets in the Hall of Fame he'll write that book.  That would be a book I would buy.  If he wants to be Jose Canseco, don't do it halfway.

I use to like Shaq but he can not just retire and go away . First the youtube crap and now this ? Being a tell all kind of guy. WHat a punk why would Kobe have ever trusted him. I bet anything if Shaq is acting like this now I bet when Kobe started blowing uo in La in was the Big Baby who started all this fueding with jealousy. I hated Kobe but I am thinking I have been wrong the whole time. I would shut myself off to people to if I had Mr.Popular always running his mouth like a girl.. Shaq is a snitch no pride in this man , no loyalty. Even in the streets you do not snitch on your enemies... Shaq worse than Jose Canseco period.....

Shaq describes Cavaliers pampering LeBron

I hope he makes a lot of money off this book as whatever relationship he has left with the NBA will be done (if they're not already). Shaq was always a chump but at least he was an entertaining chump when he was a capable player and winning. He hasn't been a star in well over 5 years and who the hell really cares what he has to say about anything.
