Michael Jordan has always been every players' hero. But right now, he's every players' enemy. He's the bad guy. He's the owner that's reportedly pushing hardline to a new level and trying to crush the players in every way possible.

Players that have revered him for years are now turning their backs on him. Why? Because Jordan once toed the line for the union famously standing up to Washington owner Abe Pollin during the 1998 negotiations.

And now Jordan's throwing that owner-speak back at the players. Which is why many have spoken out against His Airness. Stephon Marbury went so far as to call M.J. a "sellout." The latest to do it? Metta World Peace. Via

"We're the same guys that looked up to Michael Jordan when we were kids," he said. "Same guys that wanted to fly like Mike and be like Mike. Even though guys are with different companies, they still love Mike. Love his sneakers and everything. Guys just felt like he didn't support us when we most needed him. He's an owner now, so I guess he's just on the other side."

Artest, who often says wild, nonsensical things, really broke down this Jordan thing better than any player has. It was honest, and true. Jordan has meant everything to so many current players and for him to now toe the line with the owners is really hurtful. They feel like he's betrayed them. It's understandable why Jordan has done it though, like Artest said. He's an owner now so he's going to do owner things.

Some players have called M.J. a hypocrite, but the truth is, he's just an owner. I don't know what's worse right now though.

Where is it written that any business has to make a profit?  I understand thats the goal but nowhere is it stated that anyone anywhere should be guaranteed anything!  If the owners are saying they want to be guaranteed a profit that, in the truest since of the word, makes them GREEDY!  You cant expect a profit if you run your business into the ground, it just cant be done!  If your stupid enough to sign Kwame Brown to 2 multi-million dollar contracts its not anyones fault but your own!  If your going to offer Joe Johnson a max deal, thats your fault!  Call the players greedy but in reality they are taking what they are offered.  The players have given back a large amount to the owners in concessions under the proposed CBA and are honestly right in saying they dont want to lose more money then what they have already given up.

As far as Jordan goes,  he is the greatest player to ever play the game.  Thats pretty much undisputed amoung the majority of basketball fans and players worldwide.  We get that!  However he is probably the worst executive/owner in the history of pro sports.  Drafting Kwame, trading for Kwame, trading Rip Hamilton and Ben Wallace(although neither was the player they would grow to be but both clearly had potential) trading Jackson, letting Felton walk, trading Tyson Chandler, trading G. Wallace and drafting a guy who couldnt draw 2 with a pencil because he "MIGHT be the next Mutumbo" reaks of stupidity!  Your telling me he deserves to make a profit for all that when you have teams like OKC who draft well, dont overpay in free agency, dont gut their teams in trades and develop their talent out there?  No matter what happens in the world there is a universal truth!  YOU CANT SAVE PEOPLE FROM THEMSELVES!  There will still be owners who offer max deals to the Baron Davis, Gilbert Arenas, Rashard Lewis and Joe Johnson's of the world!  If they want to be stupid theres nothing any player or system can do about that.  As soon as the new CBA is ratified(whenever that is) there will be an immediate rush by the owners and GM's to find ways to circumvent it to give their teams an advantage.  Its the nature of professional sports.

Jordan has the right to make money like everyone else involved here.  Plus, i hear he really does need the cash, too much time gambling on the golf course.  Also, for years Jordan was the most underpaid athlete in sports and in today's NBA, you have complete rummies who make 3-4 times what Jordan made.  The Raef Lafrenzs' and Eddie Currys' of the world have only one use in the NBA today - expiring contracts for trades, otherwise they are totally useless.

He is a sellout, but why should we be surprised? It is called pulling the ladder up after you have climbed it to prevent competition. It is an ugly truth of humanity. Most people act the same way given a similar choice. Like a male lion killing another's cub.

What a biased article.  Not even a single word on Jordan's side of the story?  I guess we should just accept whatever "Metta World Peace" says as fact.  What more reliable source could there be than a guy who ran into a crowd and started beating up a fan once?

A Cavs' fan - I am now ( finally ) a fan of MJ !!    He sees the real world, that, this is the United States and an owner has as much a "rite" to make a profit as the employees.

Oh wait, the players consider themselves more important than the other employees of a / the basketball team ???

Let's see Ron Artest put his money where HIS mouth is and put together a group of investors to purchase a team..............

@wizwonder- perfectly put!!!! if these players really believe that the owners can continue to pay these high a@@ salaries that only a hand full of them deserve without making profit then they are really crazy. they have to understand the last couple of years we have seen layoffs all over and yet these guys doing something they love to do, and again majority of them are well overpaid are B!Tching over what most of us the fans are paying for. for anyone to come out and say MJ is a sellout is non-sense, Jordan did not have the contract these guys are granted he made up for it in endorsements,etc.. but for what he did and brought to the game he was well underpaid. we have doctors, teachers, etc with degrees making way less that are more important to the community than ball players that have no degree and again are getting paid for doing something they love. if i was one of the many guys not making lebron money i would have to step up and  speak for myself!!!!!!!!

I think I'm going to the owner of the company I work for and tell him we are starting a union and what out demnds are,  wonder if I'll have a job later today?  Hopefully not then I can go play in the NBA and make millions for doing something I love to do, oh wait... they aren't playing.  Hmmm, what to do?

I say let the spoiled brats sit all year and appreciate what they have.

Wasn't it LeBron that said I'm a business man first?  Can't fault MJ for having the same attitude can u?

As all the high price free agents bolt small markets for the lime light they are doing whats best for them,  can't blame the owners now can we?

Here's a funny story in the Akron  Beacon Jornal a week ago before election,  Lebron pleading for the voters to vote yes to support the akron schools because they so need it so bad..... for some reason I just don't take him serious when he spends 50 mill on a home in miami!   now that's a hypocrite!

Now let's see Ron.....your hero MJ lost millions last year. So because he played BB before in the NBA you want him for the next few years lose all those millions, and add more millions lost on top of that.

Oh! I see. Michael Jordan owes you. You need another car tatoo poor baby!
