Representatives of the NBA and its players met for more than 15 hours on Friday in New York City to reopen face-to-face labor negotiations after the National Basketball Players Association disbanded to file file an antitrust lawsuit against the league last week. Ken Berger of CBSSports.com reports that a "tentative agreement reached, according to one of the negotiators."

Talks began at noon Friday and ran past 3 a.m. Saturday morning.

The two sides are reportedly aiming to hammer out an agreement that would allow the NBPA to salvage a 66-game regular season that would begin on Christmas Day. It is assumed that the NBA needs a roughly 1-month lead time to get a new season up and running, and Friday was exactly one month prior to Christmas.

Ken Berger of CBSSports.com reported that, in addition to former NBPA executive director Billy Hunter, former NBPA president Derek Fisher and former NBPA board member Maurice Evans, the players were led into the negotiations by attorney Ron Klempner and economist Kevin Murphy. The league was represented by NBA commissioner David Stern, deputy commissioner Adam Silver, San Antonio Spurs owner Peter Holt and NBA general counsel Rick Buchanan. NBPA attorney Jeffrey Kessler, who recently said that Stern treated NBA players "like plantation workers," was not present, although Yahoo reported he did participate via conference call.

The two sides reportedly exchanged "back-channel" communication on Tuesday and Wednesday for the first time since Nov. 10, when the NBA made its latest formal proposal to the players, which was rejected, as the players opted to file suit instead.

Saturday is the 159th day of the ongoing NBA lockout.

This post will update with more information.

NBA, Players 'reach tentative agreement'

I'm just thankful that this long national nightmare is over. My life has been on hold, waiting for a settlement, now I can finally move forward.

Bless you all, owners, players, union, lawyers, NBA front office, for sacrificing so much to provide what is in the best interests of the fans.  We know that everything you do is with us in mind, so thank you.

NBA, Players 'reach tentative agreement'

I am a Dallas Mav fan and have been from Day 1. They are the defending Champs,as you know. Screw the NBA. Sideways. The lowest guy on the totem pole on each team makes several hundred thousand dollars a year and can't make ends meet? They'll get no sympathy from me. The owners? Their collective Mamas.

This just in, water is wet and the sky is blue, have you heard about the Lindbergh baby?  The NBA has been playing on Christmas for many years now.  It will not be every team.  It will be a marque matchup of maybe last years final teams or Boston/LA/Chicago so they can make a big deal of the start of the season.

It figures....the NBA wants fans to miss time away from their families in order to watch a basketball game. They better offer special pricing to entice fans to show up on one of the most important holidays of the year/in the whole world.

The admins just need to ban all the NBA bashing posts, if you don't care then get a better life instead of posting the same negative crap on every NBA msg. board. 2 all athletes are spoiled in terms of money, how would any of them handle a real job, exactly!!! 3. You say they are thugs but really, Plax walkin in a club with a gun and shooting himself, Vick dog fighting, the recent packers player that just went to jail, I can go on and on it is not just the NBA that has guys getting in trouble. Bunch of idiots today, how does it feel hockey fans knowing that lame sport is the only one to be locked out recently because it is garbage, tell me there more interest in the stanley cup last year then the NBA Finals???
