No rings for Mavericks on Christmas

As much as everyone outside of the state of Florida may have wanted to enjoy watching the Heat as the Mavericks get their championship rings, it's not to be. Those interested in schadenfreude will have to settle for the Miami 3 watching the Mavericks' first championship banner be raised.

WFAA in Dallas reports that Mark Cuban has informed them the Christmas Day season opener against the Heat will not be ring ceremony night for the Mavericks. It's customary for the first home game of the season to be ring ceremony night, but Cuban says that due to so many people likely having made other plans for Christmas in light of the ongoing lockout, he didn't want to leave them out.

However, the banner will be raised to the rafters so fans can celebrate their championship team on their home floor for the first time. The Heat of course lost to the Mavericks in six games in last season's Finals.

The story should be about the Mavericks, but it will, as always, be about the Heat. How will they react watching the banner they were two wins away from obtaining be raised in front of them? Does it spell an omen or serve as motivation? Will it affect how they approach their first game of the season? A loss would leave the Heat 0-2 in season openers under the new Triad after last year's loss to the Celtics in Boston.

Either way, it's going to be a fairly brutal process for the Heat to sit and watch the title they nearly won be celebrated on their opponents' home floor. Great drama, just the thing to kick off the season with to start moving past the lockout.

No rings for Mavericks on Christmas

What a friggin joke. I guess they don't want to offend the Heat by getting their rings the night they play them.
Boo hoo. It not like the Heat didn't offend everyone outside of Miami with their mere presence all last year.

No rings for Mavericks on Christmas

Hey, maybe the Heat can just celebrate their 2012 / 2013 season championship. You know, like last year.

I read one guy mentioning the Heat being like the Yankees........You may h8 the yanks but don't insult them like that.  Yankees produce.  The Heat have only produced a finals loss.  Secondly we may have egos but our management keeps them in check and all of our players know they're not calling the shots.  "the big 3 losers"  are running the heat because their owner is weak and intimidated by his stars.  i am going to lmao when they don't win zhit this year becasue if they don't, just wait for demands to be traded

No rings for Mavericks on Christmas

Congrats once again to my Mavs! BEST TEAM in the NBA last year. Dominat run in the playoffs and then putting the icing on the cake as they beat the 6, 7, 8, 9 champions of fantasyland Heat. I hope they pound the oh so talented Heat once again. Maybe Dirk and JET will fake cry before the game to make fun of LeBron and D-Wade.....nope, THEY ARE too classy and respsctful of the game for that. GO MAVS!!!

The Heat were a "force to be reckoned with" last year. How did that turn out?

Turned out fairly well considering they were in the championship game.  Might not of been great but still better than 28 other teams like the Blazers, Knicks, Nets, Spurs, Lakers.........

One other thing I should have added, though I probably don't have to tell you......the reason people treat the Heat differently is because of how they behaved in the summer of 2010. The way they handled themselves came off as arrogant and entitled and that rubs people the wrong way. If Lebron had handled his FA and "The Decision" differently and had they not had that silly rally where they announced 7 titles were on the way, the Heat wouldn't be hated the way they are. Sure, some Cavaliers fans still would have been upset, but I really don't think they would be hated in the way they are.

So, sure, the hate may be silly and it may sometimes be over-the-top, but the Heat brought it on themselves - not because three great players got together on the same team, but because they acted like children afterwards

Couldn't have said it better...  Don't forget the mockery of the Mavs too...  the hatred was brought on themselves.  But then again I think that was the goal from the beginning.  they said, let's be the yankees of basketball.  Only thing is it blew up in their face when they got beat in the finals.  Count it hopefully as a good piece of humble pie.

You're right, an article headline about Dallas and their ring ceremony, yet it's mostly about the Heat.
It would have been justice to have the ring ceremony in front of the Heat. The way they acted all last summer. With everybody practically anointing them as the champions. Look people, this is not the first team with three superstars on it. Go back to the 80's Lakers. Kareem, Magic and Worthy are so much better than these three choke artists. So were the Celtics of the 80's. The difference between those teams and this pale comparison, The Miami Heat, is those were complete teams. They had 5 good starters. They also had a deep bench. And people talk about them winning 7 rings? With only one real superstar. Wade is the only clutch player on that team. LaBron plays great until the pressure is on, then he disappears. Bosh? You are kidding. He's a good power forward. That's all. Never dominant. The rest of their roster is forgetable.
The Miami Heat is exactly what is wrong with sports. It's all about flash instead of substance. Dallas had substance last year, and thy can have their ring ceremony anytime they want. But it would have been nice to see the faces of the Heat.
