On the same day that reports indicated that the New Orleans Hornets had engineered a 3-team trade that would have sent All-Star point guard Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers, the trade, which also was to include the Houston Rockets, will not take place as expected.

Yahoo Sports reports that the NBA, which owns the Hornets and has veto power over all personnel moves, stepped in after prompting from unnamed NBA owners at Thursday's Board of Governors meeting.
The NBA has killed the proposed deal to send Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources tell Yahoo! Sports. The NBA has caved to pressure from owners that the appearance of this deal, on heels of lockout, had to be stopped, sources tell Y! Sports. "The deal is off," a source involved in the talks tells Y! Sports. "It's dead."
Ken Berger of CBSSports.com confirmed that the blockbuster deal is now "dead" and that the NBA "pulled the plug" on the trade.

As word of the deal's rejection spread, Paul posted a one-word message on Twitter: "Wow."

ESPN.com reported that Paul was "fuming" about the blocked deal and "exploring [his] legal options" to protest the NBA's decision with the help of National Basketball Players Association executive director Billy Hunter.

NBA.com reported later Thursday that NBA spokesman Tim Frank issued the following statement: "Not true that owners killed the deal...League office declined to make the trade for basketball reasons."

David Stern is a coward. Some B owners on some B franchises feelings are hurt so he cancels a more than fair trade. Guess the goal is to strive for mediocrity. Losers!

Why are people bringing up the heat? Was Lebron traded or was a free agent? Not saying the Hornets didnt do good on this deal, but given the success of the Lakers, and the previous turn and burn trades they have pulled off, I am pleased to know that the trade was killed. Here is what really needs to be debated, is Odom and Gasol worth the best point guard in the NBA?

They should pull the plug.   They are owned by the NBA, so they should not be trading assets.  Who would buy that team with no star power.  Now if they just fold the team that would be fine by me

I'm not sure how I feel about this... I thought the Hornets were getting a good deal out of his too... getting kevin martin, scola, and odom for someone who doesn't want to play there

looks like the Lakers will never be able to better their team? Everyone is just going to complain if they try to get any superstars because they already have some. That's stupid. Free market! If all 3 teams were in agreement then it shouldn't matter what other owners say. I wanna know who was complaining and about what team? The Lakers give up a top player in the league and another versatile big man for one Superstar, so they wouldn't get much better. Hornets give up their franchise man for some young talent. So they wouldnt be good right away. Houston is the only one who would have lost a lot giving up so many people. But who would complain about a team becoming easier to beat like the Rockets? They would have gotten Gasol to make up for it! Fair enough trade in my eyes this is a bad call by the NBA
