On the same day that reports indicated that the New Orleans Hornets had engineered a 3-team trade that would have sent All-Star point guard Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers, the trade, which also was to include the Houston Rockets, will not take place as expected.

Yahoo Sports reports that the NBA, which owns the Hornets and has veto power over all personnel moves, stepped in after prompting from unnamed NBA owners at Thursday's Board of Governors meeting.
The NBA has killed the proposed deal to send Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers, league sources tell Yahoo! Sports. The NBA has caved to pressure from owners that the appearance of this deal, on heels of lockout, had to be stopped, sources tell Y! Sports. "The deal is off," a source involved in the talks tells Y! Sports. "It's dead."
Ken Berger of CBSSports.com confirmed that the blockbuster deal is now "dead" and that the NBA "pulled the plug" on the trade.

As word of the deal's rejection spread, Paul posted a one-word message on Twitter: "Wow."

ESPN.com reported that Paul was "fuming" about the blocked deal and "exploring [his] legal options" to protest the NBA's decision with the help of National Basketball Players Association executive director Billy Hunter.

NBA.com reported later Thursday that NBA spokesman Tim Frank issued the following statement: "Not true that owners killed the deal...League office declined to make the trade for basketball reasons."

NBA 'pulled plug' on Chris Paul to Lakers trade

Are you kidding me????  LeBron is one of the most reviled sports figures in the NBA.  The NBA can't make this trade-sending a marquee player to it's biggest market.  It can't do this and look like a legitimate league.  Here's what will happen:  The NBA will sell NO in a hurry and let the new owners do as they wish with Paul.

As a Rocket supporter, I'm glad.  This was a horrible trade for the Rockets.

The Hornets will wind up in the dumpster just like the MLB-owned Expos who are just now beginning to emerge as a decent team again.

My God...the NBA front office will do ANYTHING to give the Heat the best chance to win a Championship...what a disasterous manipulative move by the league. Most trades...by nature...results in winners and losers... who the hell is the league to stop the trade JUST becuase it's the Lakers...??!!!! PURE BS...PURE GARBAGE...!

Nba will do anything to make Lebron James the face of the league and by stopping this trade they make sure Lakers can not match up..Unreal Nba is looking like the fixed league. I am taking back my Nba2k12 so I have no money invested into these people anymore.

The NBA and the New Orleans Hornets are like the NHL and the Phoenix Coyotes. They don't want the only option to keeping New Orleans a viable franchise - Chris Paul - leaving for the Los Angeles Lakers and making the rich richer. Though the trade is more than fair to New Orleans, they can't regain that star power lost.

How were the Hornets getting hosed, Houston was giving them three GREAT players all in their prime. This wasn't about what New Orleans was getting or not getting, it was sour grapes by the other west coast owners. This sucks big time.

The NBA is terrible and a shell of its former self...More than half the teams with sub .500 records each year.....Garbage.
