Brandon Roy's NBA career is over. And now, so is his cap hold on the Trail Blazers. The Blazers informed Roy's agent Thursday that they will be exercising the amnesty clause on Roy, waiving him and removing his remaining $68 million from their books.

Roy announced his retirement last week due to his ongoing issues with knee injuries.  The amnesty clause means Roy will still be paid his contract amount, unless otherwise negotiated with the Blazers under the terms of his retirement. The release of Roy makes room on the cap for the Blazers to sign Jamal Crawford to add to their backcourt.

LaMarcus Aldridge actively recruited Crawford, who's from the Northwest, all summer during the lockout.

Roy ends his career with career averages of 19 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists.

Has anyone also noticed that if decline all team options in 2013-2014 they only have 2 people on the roster under contract- LA & Matthews?

I think the amnesty was used to actually save the luxury tax money this year... next year and on is 85% covered by the insurance.

When did the Blazers "almost beat the world champion Mavericks"? They lost 4-2. That's not close.

You need to get your facts straight. Crawford signed a two year deal and why wouldn't he stay in Portland? They almost beat the world champion Mavericks last year and have a better team this year. Probably can't win the title but getting out of the first round should definitely be attainable.

I like Crawford but why oh why did they basically rent a player for a year and use the Amnesty on Roy. Allen must like giving money away. Kneeroy retired and would have come off the books next year with Allen basically off the hook. Now Allen gets to pay the majority of the remainder of his salary if not all of it as I don't think insurance will be kiccking in. Were the B;azers that desperate to make a move. Crawford won't get them out of the 1st round and will be gone come next season.
