An unemployed Harvard man has landed a job in Manhattan.

ESPN.com reports that former Harvard University guard Jeremy Lin has been claimed off of waivers by the New York Knicks. The New York Post later confirmed the move.

Lin, the first Taiwanese-American to get signed to an NBA roster, went undrafted but stuck with the Golden State Warriors after an impressive Summer League showing. The Warriors released him during the free agency period and he landed on the Houston Rockets roster. The Rockets released him this week to make room for free agent signing Samuel Dalembert.

The Knicks lost rookie guard Iman Shumpert to a sprained MCL on Christmas Day that is expected to keep him sidelined for at least two weeks. New York can use the depth as veteran guards Mike Bibby and Baron Davis deal with injuries. ESPNNY.com reports that Bibby, who has been dealing with back spasms, is expected to play on Wednesday. Davis is expected to miss an extended period of time due to back injuries of his own.

Lin, 23, appeared in 29 games for the Warriors last season, posting averages of 2.6 points and 1.4 assists per game.

I hear where both jersey and step are coming from but with mike bibby, Baron Davis (granted he's injured), and Toney Douglas I just don't see when Lin will ever get any play time. With that said it'll never help his career.

Great pickup by the KNICKS.  J. Lin is about 6'4" and showed that he he could play this game.  His last 2yrs at Harvard he averaged more than 17PPG along with about 4.5 assit.  During theLas Vegas summer league game of 2010 Jeremy Lin clearly outplayed John Wall in the Wizard/Maverick matchup with the game on the line.  The shot that Lin made with the Wizards attempting to trap him went on to become a YouTube sensation.  Of course after the game John Wall #1 draft pick went on  to big money and Jeremy Lin all but disappeared. The kid can play and he has got good size and a handle, who knows this maybe his lucky break.

YOu know, DECIDE's comment is typical of those who dont really know or follow basketball. This is interesting for a number of reasons. Lin showed flashes of real ability last year. He could be the right kind of back up point for the knicks......low usage, great handle......but the rubes wouidnt care about that....only stories on celebrity athletes. Sigh..

At least the Knicks are giving younger players a shot. Veteran experience is beneficial, long as there is balance in terms of age.

it is entirely possiblethat the knicks. with all their roster gyrations might not finish a higher seed than the clippers. on paper the knicks look good, but they donts play the games on paper. somebody will get hurt, somebody will have a bad attitude, somebody will choke in an important game. at least the knicks should be in most games and win a lot, which will be good for their fans.
