Kings say DeMarcus Cousins demanded trade

DeMarcus Cousins has always had a tag on him: immature. But that's often giving Cousins the benefit of the doubt. Because some might feel the right word is "head-case." One of those people might be Kings coach Paul Westphal.

The Kings released a surprising statement from Westphal regarding Cousins saying point blank that the young big man has demanded a trade. And as a result, Cousins has been told to stay home and won't be playing against the Hornets Sunday night.
“Whenever a new season begins, in any sport, there is great hope that everything will progress in only a steady, upward direction. As we all know, it seldom happens like that in this life! As coaches, we can only ask that our players do everything they can to improve themselves as individuals and teammates.

If they do this with all their hearts, we live with the results. Everything that happens on a team does not become known to the public. This is how it should be. However, when a player continually, aggressively, lets it be known that he is unwilling/unable to embrace traveling in the same direction as his team, it cannot be ignored indefinitely. DeMarcus Cousins has demanded to be traded.

In the best interest of our team as we go forward, he has been directed by me, with the support of management, to stay home from the New Orleans game tonight.”
Here's the odd thing: Cousins' agent John Greig tells SI.com it isn't true.

"DeMarcus never demanded a trade. I'm surprised the Kings, if they believe the player wanted a trade, wouldn't have made a phone call to his representative. Maybe Westphal is just feeling the Heat early this season."

I'm trying to infer from Westphal's comments and Greig's subsequent denial, but maybe Westphal is saying Cousins has demanded a trade with his actions. Or that Westphal has demanded that Cousins demand a trade. A "him or me" approach.

This comes after Cousins was asked recently about the Kings offense and he quipped, "What offense?" which is obviously a jab at Westphal. Cousins also took to Twitter late Sunday and refuted it as well.

Westphal has battled with Cousins since the Kings drafted him in 2010. Last season, Cousins was suspended by the team for an altercation with Donte Greene, he's been ejected and he's mocked opponents for choking only to get benched for it. The guy hasn't had a smooth run so far in the NBA.

Cousins has a tattoo on his leg that says "misunderstood.
" Red flag! He constantly feels like he's being picked on, singled out. And it seems that it's either going to be him or Westphal that goes in Sacramento. Because the two can't co-exist. What the Kings are going through is what so many team anticipated before the draft in 2010. Most felt that Cousins probably was the most talented player out there, except he might be a problem child. Which it appears he is.

Kings says DeMarcus Cousins demanded trade

I've watched all 4 games of the kings this season, and Cousins is the only player that is committed to winning. He plays tough, and with passion, unlike the rest of the team which is all about ME ME ME.
Is this the same DeMarcus Cousins who doesn't get back on defense and misses easy shots?  The same player who is so committed to winning that his shooting has gotten progressively worse every game so far in this shortened season?

Cousins is also the same guy who is so committed to winning he didn't commit to UAB in writing just in case Mike Davis left.  Davis never left, but Cousins switched his commitment to Memphis.  He was again so committed to winning at Memphis that he changed his mind a month later after John Calipari went to Kentucky.  I don't want to hear crap about Cousins being committed to anything but taking care of himself.  He is the poster child for everything that's wrong with today's spoiled child athletes who think the world needs to revolve around them because they were born physically gifted.
It is Paul Westphal that needs to go, and if the Kings Management do not see this, then they are obviously wanting the Kings to leave the city by having them be the worst team in the league
Obviously you missed the part about the Maloof brothers trying to move the franchise for the last two seasons.  The basketball world knows they want to leave town because the building they play in is a dump and the town doesn't support the franchise.
Cousins will win a championship with a team that wants to win, with a coach that KNOWS how to coach now, not how it was in 1992, you can see that he loves the game, and as a Kings supporter, I will be saddened if he gets traded instead of Westphal getting the sack...
Cousins won't stick around anywhere long enough to contribute to the building of a winning team.  He lost to Eric Bledsoe's HS team for a state title and only stuck around for a single season in college where he could have been a major contributor to a National Championship team -- even if John Wall leaves.  If Cousins plays four years at Kentucky, I'd have been amazed if he didn't win at least one National Championship.  But, as the great team first player he is, he left after only one season at Kentucky.  Surprise!

Fine, you don't think Westphal can coach a winner in today's NBA.  I'll go along with that.  Who's your replacement?  Be realistic -- Phil Jackson ain't walking through the doors of ARCO Arena/Power Balance Pavilion any time soon.  Beyond him, winning in the NBA isn't about the coaches putting teams over the top -- it's how much talent the roster has.  Beyond Cousins and Tyreke Evans, the Kings have a bunch of role players being put into starting positions.  Call me back when the Kings have a third stud player -- then they'll be contender material.

that's funny. he demanded a trade. all these coaches are doing everything in  their power to help their teams win more games, improve team chemistry, help players play their best. then this clown wants a trade. they did the right thing telling him to stay home.

i watched a couple games too.  while i agree that cousins has been hustling his ass off and is a good player.  he is an obvious head case.  where there is smoke, there is fire.  he has continually been tagged "trouble" and there is a reason why.  we once had a stud/headcase in philly on the iggles named TO.  sometimes they just go hand and hand

Kings says DeMarcus Cousins demanded trade

You must be a DeMarcus Cousins family member because this guy went to play for Calipari who is the best coach at getting all the problem child thugs....In the NBA draft the Nets went with Derrick Favors instead of DeMarcus because they didn't want to deal with a problem child especially if this clown plays in New York...To me he is not nearly talented enough to justify all the problems he brings...If he ever wins the championship is because he will be the 4th or at best 3rd best player on a great team...BUYER BEWARE WITH THIS CLOWN...
