Cousins to rejoin Kings as trade offers pop up

Update (9:45 p.m.): Cousins issued a statement via his agent and SI.com has the details. "I want to address my missing the New Orleans game Sunday. I have not demanded or requested a trade. I don't agree with the actions taken but will give my sincere effort to put it behind me and compete the best I can for my team."

In other words, this isn't over. Not by a long shot.

*******

As the fallout from the Kings sending DeMarcus Cousins home following what Paul Westphal publicly described as a trade demand continues, teams are circling even as the Kings continue to say they are not trading the volatile young big man.

SI.com reports that the Nets have expressed interest, and the Washinton Post says the Wizards have called to inquire about pairing Cousins with his Kentucky teammate John Wall in Washington. Both teams believe the Kings are following through on their refusal to trade him.

In the same vein, Yahoo Sports reports that Cousins is going to joing the team on its road trip, effectively ending his suspension-that-isn't-a-suspension, or his grounding, or whatever.

If the Kings aren't going to trade him, and they were going to let him back on the team, then why announce to the world his situation? Westphal actually took a measured approach Sunday, saying that the reason was because one way or another the media would be asking about it. Still, it seems like throwing Cousins under the bus for very little gain. Expect the Kings to continue to receive offers, albeit low ones, to try and get the talented powder keg.

Westphal did the right by telling him to go sit his ass down somewhere!  Cousins has NO type of power what so ever to demand anything...earn them millions chump!

@Whitebread, I agree wholeheartedly with you. The only problem is that Cousins, like so many of the young players today has never had to work and don't know the meaning. They have been the "savior" the "king" and do not knowm what it really takes. It is a shame when pure ability to throw a ball, hit a ball, or shoot a ball can make you wealthy in this country when coping and skills to exist seem to be in a parrallel reality.

This is the problem with talent. By itself talent counts for very little. We have all seen extremely talented playes, not only in the NBA, but all the major sports, never get close to being as good as their talent. Players that don't have the drive, or don't want to work hard enough, fail. Sometimes spectacularly! By all accounts, Cousins is very talented player. What happens now, is up to him. Is he willing to work really hard? Is he willing to be a team player? Is he coachable? I think it's time that these players that come into the league, realize that it's a profession. And like all professions, you need patience, hard work, and maybe just a little luck. But they have to stop with the attitude. There have been many great players before them, and there will be many more afterward.
So I would say, Cousins, go to work. Keep your mouth shut. And maybe good things will happen. Above all.........stop pouting!

It is a tragedy that so many of the new players act just like Cousins.

He is a casualty of the current "one and done" dillema that is college basketball. I should really say that is Kentucky / Memphis basketball. The kids fake their way through High School, have people sit in for them on their entrance exams and then learn nothing while at college. I mention those teams because I am sure we all know who has coached there along with coaching at UMass which had the same graduation and educational problems. He personifies what is wrong with the current system and the NBA in general. Many, not all of the new players are young and think they are all that. It is comparable to the rest of their age group that thinks they are all "wannabe gangstas" and so cool. These kids would all shit their pants if they ran into the REAL gangSTERS in this world. Cousins is similar in that he feels he can now tell people what to do when he no longer holds those cards. Watch as he self destructs, acts up, and ends up getting arrested for something a normal minded person would never think of doing. It is simnply another case of the dumbing of America. Where else in the educated world is the measure of success is to be a celebrity, a wannabe gangsta (what jokes), or a sports star without an education. It is a reality of the new NBA. I have not watched it for 5 years now and will refuse to watch it while the players are more enamured with who is in their "posse" rather than what is the right thing to do. It is a great fallacy to say the NBA is great right now, the same way it is a fallacy to say that Jordan saved the NBA. BULLSHIT, it was Magic and Bird that saved the NBA!!!! It once again is lost. But wait, maybe it is getting better, Labron is actually engaged to the mother of his two children. I guess that sequence was done in the correct order.. Such a joke.

You only have to listen to DeMarcus speak in any interview he ever gives to realize that he isn't smart enough to make any decision that he'll live with longer than about a week.  Without a doubt this guy wakes up to what he considers a brand new world 2 or 3 times a week or more.  His attention span doesn't last 48 minutes, anyone who's seen him play for the Kings knows this.  The only hope is that he meets someone responsible that he respects that can tell him what to do, like a strong teammate or coach, because otherwise this guy's career will be mediocre at best.

I think it's time for all sports to figure out a way to make this players live out there deal and owners to lve with the bad contracts they offered.
I guess he should have just refused to play in the NBA, since he was drafted by them, is on his rookie deal, and couldnt sign with anyone else.
