There has never been any doubt that the 1992 Olympic team dubbed the Dream Team, is the greatest collection of basketball talent ever. They completely steamrolled everyone in their way and were even inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

And while there have been good American teams since, like 2008's Beijing roster or 1996's folllow-up team, there never has been a group quite like it. But LeBron James thinks the 20th anniversary team will compare. Via Fox Sports Florida:
"We can stack up with those guys," the Miami forward said.

[...]

"I agree," James said. "They set the standard for USA Basketball in '92 with all the great players they had. But we have some great ones as well. We have some Hall of Famers, some champions. So it's going to be a great (team)."

The only place you could ever find out is a video game, but here's an important note: The 2012 team has yet to win anything. And with the rest of the world pretty much caught up in talent with teams like Spain, France, Lithuania and others, awarding yourself a gold medal probably isn't the smartest thing. For the Americans to take home gold in London, they'll have to go through some good teams.

But for reference's sake, the Dream Team had Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, David Robinson, Clyde Drexler, Christian Laettner and Chris Mullin. The 2012 roster isn't set, but will likely have LeBron, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Dwight Howard, Kevin Love, Chris Bosh and a few others.

Do they "stack up" as LeBron says? Absolutely. In terms of pure talent, the 2012 has an abundance of it. It's hard comparing the past to the present, because it's difficult to get past the greatness of players like Larry Bird and Magic Johnson and realize that guys like Durant and LeBron have comparable talents. Still, the '92 Dream Team dominated the world. The 2012 team has yet to play an exhibition. Reminds me of some other supposed "dream team"...

Don't go giving yourself not one, not two, not three, not four, not five gold medals before you've even practiced, LeBron. I figured you'd learned your lesson on that.

LeBron: 2012 team 'stacks up' with Dream Tream

I like the guy who does a player by player comparison but doesnt know who Kevin Love is. Good Stuff. He also thinks Clyde Drexler is on par with Lebron James.  Outside of Michael Jordan, nobody on that team (and arguably nobody to ever play the game) has a skill set on par with Lebron.  The Dream Team was better, but with Kobe, Wade, Bron, Howard, CP3, etc..this Olympic Team will be insanely good.

There goes LeDouche, running his mouth off again.  MJ, Bird and Magic are arguably the best 3 players to ever play.  Add in Stockton and Malone, who may be the greatest tandem of all time.  Really, LeDouche?  You are comparing yourselves to that?   N**** Please!!!  How bout just try to win 1 championship before spouting off.

LeBron should be on the campaign trail with Rick Perry. LeBron clearly knows as much about politics and running a country as Rick Perry does, and Rick Perry clearly knows as much about basketball talent and teamwork as LeBron.  A match made in heaven!

Sorry LeBron, not even close. I you are excited about your 2012 team, but lets get real. Just say you think the 2012 team will be very good, and then shut up.

Thank you.  Very accurate response!

Once again LeBron has shown his arrogance and most folks, outside of probably Miami fans are sick of it.  He's far more bark than bite, despite being a good player.

What's with today's NBA players?  They've lost all sense of the fact that it's a team sport, something the Dream Team knew how to play, even MJ figured it out after his first few years in the league.  They're arrogant, not a humble bone in their bodies.  I'm just over it and it's why I rarely watch NBA basketball anymore.  The game hasn't changed, the players attitudes have.  Michael Jordan was respected and cheered for by fans coast to coast, something neither Kobe, nor LeBron can claim nor many other stars of today can claim. Sad to hear stupid comments like this from LeBron.

I just wonder if they're so empowered via salaries these days that they're not smart enough to realize that a little humbleness would go a long way.  Those that have no sense of how to talk to the media, aka LeBron, probably could benefit from spending some of that money on a publicist as well.

LeBron: 2012 team 'stacks up' with Dream Tream

What is the "Dream Tream" you speak of?

Well, lets see how the '92 Dream Tream actually stacks up against the '12 Dream Team in terms of 'greater thans':

Michael Jordan >> Kobe Bryant
Larry Bird >>> Chris Bosh  (only > if it was Dirk Nowitzki here but he's German :<)
Magic Johnson >>Chris Paul
John Stockton >> Deron Williams
Karl Malone LOL> Kevin Love (who is this?!)
Patrick Ewing > Dwight Howard
David Robinson > Dwight Howard
Clyde Drexler = LeBron James
Charles Barkley > Blake Griffen
Kevin Durant = Scottie Pippen
Derrick Rose > Chris Mullin
Few others (Dirk Nowitzki if not German) > Christian Laetner

Verdict.

'92 Dream Team  >>>>>>>&
gt;>LOL>>>> '12 Dream Tream

Yep...definitely stacks up a lot of  <'s when compared.

Sorry, but the Dream Team (the ONLY Dream Team) would tear this Olympic team to pieces.  And that Dream Team had a Larry Bird who was no longer in his prime.  Granted, this Olympic team is stacked, to be sure, and there is no reason they can't win the gold again.  But when you have:

Magic Johnson and John Stockton - best point guards in the history of the NBA

Charles Barkley and Karl Malone - two of the best power forwards (Tim Duncan is still the best)

Patrick Ewing and David Robinson - Chris Bosh, Dwight Howard please!  Both Ewing and Robinson played offense AND defense.

Chris Mullen - one of the best pure shooters

Scottie Pippen and Clyde Drexler - two of the best cut and slash players

Michael Jordan - need I say more?

There is only one Dream Team, especially when you have some of the best players who have ever played on one team.

Lebron James really does have brain damage.

Every member of the 92 team is in or will be int the HOF (except for Laetner and he may even get in becuase of his college career.)  I do not think the same can be said for the 2012 team.
