There has never been any doubt that the 1992 Olympic team dubbed the Dream Team, is the greatest collection of basketball talent ever. They completely steamrolled everyone in their way and were even inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

And while there have been good American teams since, like 2008's Beijing roster or 1996's folllow-up team, there never has been a group quite like it. But LeBron James thinks the 20th anniversary team will compare. Via Fox Sports Florida:
"We can stack up with those guys," the Miami forward said.

[...]

"I agree," James said. "They set the standard for USA Basketball in '92 with all the great players they had. But we have some great ones as well. We have some Hall of Famers, some champions. So it's going to be a great (team)."

The only place you could ever find out is a video game, but here's an important note: The 2012 team has yet to win anything. And with the rest of the world pretty much caught up in talent with teams like Spain, France, Lithuania and others, awarding yourself a gold medal probably isn't the smartest thing. For the Americans to take home gold in London, they'll have to go through some good teams.

But for reference's sake, the Dream Team had Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, David Robinson, Clyde Drexler, Christian Laettner and Chris Mullin. The 2012 roster isn't set, but will likely have LeBron, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Dwight Howard, Kevin Love, Chris Bosh and a few others.

Do they "stack up" as LeBron says? Absolutely. In terms of pure talent, the 2012 has an abundance of it. It's hard comparing the past to the present, because it's difficult to get past the greatness of players like Larry Bird and Magic Johnson and realize that guys like Durant and LeBron have comparable talents. Still, the '92 Dream Team dominated the world. The 2012 team has yet to play an exhibition. Reminds me of some other supposed "dream team"...

Don't go giving yourself not one, not two, not three, not four, not five gold medals before you've even practiced, LeBron. I figured you'd learned your lesson on that.

It will be a solid team... but you can't compare any team to the original Dream Team.  Add up the Championships and MVP awards by players on that 1992 team and it would let Lebron know that once again he said something that is ridiculous.

Bosh?

I'd like to see Zach Randolph on the 2012 team instead of Chris Bosh.

Stokomo- Really your going to pull the race card? What is wrong with saying b4 the season started that Peyton Hillis should get paid?  Or that i enjoy watching Wes Welker or Danny Woodhead five foot nothings running around with giants.  If you think I'm racist then you sir are the one stuck in the 50's and 60's.  Don't be upset that I think Larry Bird is the greatest of all time. It's just my opinion and your entitled to yours.  But calling me a racist that's a low blow.
No i'm not upset just thought your comment earlier "team photo" was funny.  Pippen, Rodman, Grant, and Paxson have been quoted as saying they didn't enjoy playing with his Airness.

Larry won the MVP three years in a row.  Did Jordan?

No.
And hard to believe for a guy who won 10 scoring titles and all defensive team nine times. He will have to live with the shame of only winning 5 MVP awards during his career.

But, as stated previously, he got screwed the year he became the 2nd man in NBA histroy to score 3,000 points.
His chances for 3 in a row were also hurt by his suspension in 1993-94 and most of the 1994-95 seasons.
But you are right he didn't win 3 in a row, which is the true measue of greatness, I guess.

Although he did win 6 finals MVP. 3 in a row, twice.

Bird was the ultimate team player Jordan only worried about himself

As witnessed by 6 championships.  Shots by Paxson and Kerr that clinched two of their championships.

So take your team photo and stick it up your A$$.

You are LIVID!!!!
Relax it will be OK, just breathe deep.

No doubt the 2012 team is loaded, but the 1992 team is exactly what they were called--a "Dream Team." That team was full of Legends. In 20 years, will people still talk about Griffin, Paul, Williams, Love, and Bosh the same way? No, but 2012's team is still going to kick some butt, though.

did some research herbman1, and as I thought, you have major issues. You have a fond hatred for black athletes and fond love for white athletes. On Hillis you quoted, "Hillis is a beast.  He is underpaid and that is a fact.  Hopefully the Browns do the right thing and give this work horse a new contract.  Just hope he isn't asking for crazy money like CJ1K.  Now that is an over rated running back. " On the Patriots you are quoted "I love watching the patriots with all these little white guys running around the field. It's great to see that we can still compete. I never liked the hooded monster of a head coach but he is gaining alot of respect from me starting these guys." There are too many quotes of negative writings about black athletes to put on here so I just wasted my time with you. Life moves on past the color barriers sir..... Maybe you should do the same and get your old A$$ out of the 50's & 60's....

Guess we will find out soon enough. They better completely dominate like Dream Team did or there is nothing to even talk about.

The 1992 Team would be better than the 2012 team especially the big guys.  The 1996 team would also be a little better than the 2012 team as well.

herbman1........One last thing about your "GOD", Larry Bird. You tried to say that Jordan got away with pushing off, which I will agree, star players get preferential treatment and that's part of the game played in the NBA. Bird also go the same treatment. How do you think he averaged 10 rebounds per game. If you're really as old as you let on to be, then you will remember that he grabbed the oppsing player's jersey to hold him down cause Bird couldn't jump. I'm not knocking Bird for his way of playing, but don't get it confused nad try to act like Jordan got treatment when all stars, including Larry Bird received his fair share of the same.... I'm done now so you can argue with yourself.
