There has never been any doubt that the 1992 Olympic team dubbed the Dream Team, is the greatest collection of basketball talent ever. They completely steamrolled everyone in their way and were even inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

And while there have been good American teams since, like 2008's Beijing roster or 1996's folllow-up team, there never has been a group quite like it. But LeBron James thinks the 20th anniversary team will compare. Via Fox Sports Florida:
"We can stack up with those guys," the Miami forward said.

"I agree," James said. "They set the standard for USA Basketball in '92 with all the great players they had. But we have some great ones as well. We have some Hall of Famers, some champions. So it's going to be a great (team)."

The only place you could ever find out is a video game, but here's an important note: The 2012 team has yet to win anything. And with the rest of the world pretty much caught up in talent with teams like Spain, France, Lithuania and others, awarding yourself a gold medal probably isn't the smartest thing. For the Americans to take home gold in London, they'll have to go through some good teams.

But for reference's sake, the Dream Team had Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Karl Malone, Scottie Pippen, Patrick Ewing, Charles Barkley, David Robinson, Clyde Drexler, Christian Laettner and Chris Mullin. The 2012 roster isn't set, but will likely have LeBron, Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Blake Griffin, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Dwight Howard, Kevin Love, Chris Bosh and a few others.

Do they "stack up" as LeBron says? Absolutely. In terms of pure talent, the 2012 has an abundance of it. It's hard comparing the past to the present, because it's difficult to get past the greatness of players like Larry Bird and Magic Johnson and realize that guys like Durant and LeBron have comparable talents. Still, the '92 Dream Team dominated the world. The 2012 team has yet to play an exhibition. Reminds me of some other supposed "dream team"...

Don't go giving yourself not one, not two, not three, not four, not five gold medals before you've even practiced, LeBron. I figured you'd learned your lesson on that.

You are an idiot. They may not have been in their prime but they destroyed anyone in the way. I think it is hilarious how you mention Carmelo, Aldridge and Bosh even in this article. None of those guys would have even made the Dream Team and you think they could beat them ? Dont post about NBA Basketball when you know nothing about it. Just play it on your XBox and leave the posts to people who know the game.

"We have some Hall of Famers".  Who might those be?  A little presumptuous, to say the least.  The Dream Team was led by Jordan, who had two rings at the time and went on to win 4 more.  The current version is led by LeChoke, who has won exactly nothing.  Let's see.......not at all comparable.

Nobody pays any attention to what Lebron thinks. The 1992 team is the greatest team ever assembled in Basketball history. Hands down. These players now think they are all that. Nba Basketball back then was more physical and the overall talent was better. The guy is a joke to think they could beat them. You have 3 of the top 5 players of all time in Magic, Jordan and Bird. There is no one who falls in their category that plays today. So let him think what he is saying is true. We all know that the Original Dream Team was the greatest group of talent ever assembled on one team in the history of any sport. Lebron, you will never be in their league.

lebron is a stupid joke!!!! talent yes, but one thing the dream team had that these selfish little brats don't have, is passion for the game. these are all selfish players that think if they come together it will be the best team ever, when in fact i can go to most parks and find 4 teams that will smash the new "dream team" just because they play like a team. not like a bunch of whiny girls... jordan, bird, magic, and the others laugh at what the league is today... a bunch of high priced jerk offs that care more about how they look after the game in interview, rather than how they play... enjoy your fake basketball season, i will stick to NCAA basketball... atleast you know the players care for the games(cuz if they dont they wont get the millions lebron gets for being a wasted tird!) lol...

NBA is a joke, and if you care about this season, you are a joke.... you can see the demeanor on the players.... they know thi season is a joke....

to paraphrase an original Dream Teamer (sorry, do not remember which one):  "He's on the right team, 'cause he's Dreaming"

A lot of great players but 1992 team and most of the best players OF ALL TIME...will some 2012 players eventually join that stratus?  Maybe.  Most likely not more than one or two.  But none will surpass Larry, Michael, and Magic...EVER.

Lebron is right, this year's team is just as good as the dream team.  Magic and Bird were great players, but were not in their prime during the 1992 games and Chrisitan Laettner was on the team.  I like the looks of the USA 2012 roster, but Carmelo Anthony and LaMarcus Aldridge should be on the team instead of Bosh.

Thanks LeBron I needed a really good laugh to get me going today. You say the most hysterically funny things and I am happy you are never serious.
