Update (Monday 12:30 p.m.): As the Mavericks met with President Obama Monday morning, West was not with the team. But why? That's apparently a bit complicated. West told reporters that he was "banned" from the White House. But ABC News, via the Dallas Morning News, spoke with Secret Service, who denied that claim.
West, who had a high profile arrest more than two years ago while under the influence of prescribed medication, said he is banned from stepping foot in the White House after the President's security team ran a routine background check on the guard.

ABC News reports that the U.S. Secret Service disagrees with that assessment.

"The individual in question was never someone that would not be permitted to attend the event today," Secret Service agent Edwin Donovan said. "He is on the list for entry today and was never advised otherwise to my knowledge. "

So for some reason, West thought that he couldn't attend, but if it was related to his misdemeanor gun charge conviction, it wasn't for security reasons, but public relations. This situation remains confusing.

Additionally, West went on a Twitter rant over the weekend, blaming the media for painting him in an unfavorable light. He didn't actually specify who the offending media member was. He expressed regret over not being able to meet the President, while also saying that media criticism over his gun charges lead to him being forced to take a lesser deal from the Mavericks. If you're wondering if any of this makes any sense, it does not.

The 2011 NBA champion Dallas Mavericks are finally headed to the White House to meet President Barack Obama on Monday. Guard Delonte West says he won't be joining his teammates.

West, who pleaded guilty to weapons charges after being pulled over while driving a three-wheeled motorcycle with a shotgun strapped to his back, says he is "banned" from the White House, according to the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram
“I’m banned from going to the White House, so I’m not going to make it,’’ West said after tonight’s 96-81 win over the New Orleans Hornets. “But I’m going home to D.C., I’m just not allowed to go to the White House.

“That’s what happens when you make bad decisions in your life. You can’t go to the White House.’’

“I live in D.C. It’s going to be ashamed the President isn’t going to get a chance to meet me. I’m the president of my house.’’
Touring the White House requires a mandatory background check for all visitors.

West's 2009 arrest made national headlines because of the unusual specifics
Prince George's County police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Reedy said Friday the Cleveland Cavaliers player was arrested about 10 p.m. Thursday. Reedy said West was riding a Can-Am Spyder motorcycle north on the Capital Beltway in Upper Marlboro when he cut off an officer, who pulled him over. Police said a handgun was found in his pocket, another in his pant leg and a shotgun in a guitar case strapped to his back.

Back in September, West said that he was "not proud" of his gun arrest but said that the incident "looks way worse than it was" because he was under the influence of medication he takes for bipolar disorder. The arrest, which occurred while he was a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers, led to a 10-game suspension by the NBA.

West played for the Boston Celtics last season before signing with the Mavericks during the December free agency period. West is averaging 7.5 points and 3.0 assists for the Mavericks in eight games so far this season. He made national headlines during the lockout when he took a job working at a furniture store after previously seeking work at Home Depot and as a salesman of knives

I think all of you are missing a larger point why do we as Americans need to have any type of back ground check to tour The White House considering it's the house of "We the People" not who the hell has been elected to serve as the President that is were the outrage should be.

GMUALUM,  I think you're forgetting how hard it is to get arrested.  You really need to go out of your way to do so.  If you get arrested and charged with a crime there is maybe a 5% chance you didn't know you were doing something illegal.  Don't be a thug.  Don't be stupid.  Don't carry three guns while cutting off a cop.  Don't go to the White House.  Simple

So if you get a misdemeanor charge, you should not be allowed anywhere?  Really? And it makes you a thug?
