From a major Sports Illustrated feature to a jail cell: it's been a week that Clifton "Pop" Herring, Michael Jordan's high school basketball coach, won't soon forget. reports that Herring was arrested at his home on Friday after a dead body was found there on Thursday.
Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department found a body while searching a home in Wilmington Friday for evidence relating to a missing person's case, and WECT has learned that one of two men arrested at the home the night before used to be Michael Jordan's basketball coach while he attended Laney High School.

Reports say police arrested Clifton Herring in the 1100 block of Cowan Street on Thursday night. One of the men was arrested at the home for an outstanding warrant, and Herring was charged with resisting, delaying and obstructing that arrest.

The address where police found the woman's body buried Friday is also the same address that Herring listed as his home address when arrested.
In the Sports Illustrated profile, Herring wanted to make it clear that he did not "cut" Jordan from the Laney (N.C.) High School basketball team. Rather, Herring said that he "placed" Jordan on the junior varsity team during Jordan's sophomore year.

The profile noted that Herring was struggling financially and living a hard life. Herring told the magazine that Jordan had no contact wtih him during the last 17 years.

MJ's high school coach arrested after body found

The headline is deceptive and Golliver doesn't try to clear it up. It doesn't seem at all like he's arrested for murder but for being a pain in the ass (he's a "self medicating" paranoid schizophrenic) while they were trying to arrest the real suspect. Herring, according to the SI piece, let a bunch of vagrants stay in his yard (The "Oak Tree Boys"?) and shared what little he'd get from his notoriety with them. It was likely one of them that the police actually came for. Either way, lots of Pops new lately.

MJ's high school coach arrested after body found

Because the NBA is still chasing the heir to his throne hence why the continuoulsy try to annoint the next upcoming players as MJ like. When that isnt going to ever happen. Thats why they get big heads and suck it up like LeBum in miami. People just need to be greatful they got to witness MJ's greatness during his playing days and leave it at that. All they do is diminish him by saying this kid is the next MJ. No one ever will be MJ. They just tried to compare Kevin Durants stats to MJ's last week. What a joke. The closest is Kobe and he is still far from MJ

MJ's high school coach arrested after body found

Why is this news? MJ doesn't play basketball anymore. "Jordan had no contact with him during the last 17 years." Why do we care about his high school coach if this event is completely unrelated to His Airness?
