She is about to get half.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Los Angeles Lakers All-Star guard Kobe Bryant will likely be on the hook for $75 million or more in a divorce settlement with his wife, Vanessa, because he did not have a prenuptial agreement. The couple announced that they were filing for divorce in December.
The apparent lack of a prenuptial agreement -- coupled with 10 years of marriage -- will likely significantly increase the size of Vanessa Bryant's divorce settlement with Kobe Bryant, legal experts said.

Some estimates put Kobe Bryant's net worth at $150 million. Legal experts said Vanessa Bryant will probably receive at least $75 million in addition to ongoing spousal and child support.

The fact the marriage lasted 10 years gives Vanessa Bryant several advantages under California divorce law. After passing the 10-year mark, attorney Dmitry Gorin said, a marriage is defined as a lengthy one, which means the spouse is allowed to maintain her standard of living after the split.
The couple has two daughters, ages 8 and 5.

In a prepared statement issued to the media in December, a representative of the Bryant said: "The Bryants have resolved all issues incident to their divorce privately with the assistance of counsel and a Judgment dissolving their marital status will be entered in 2012."

According to Basketball-Reference.com, Bryant has earned more than $196 million in salary during his NBA career. Bryant is on the books for $25 million for the 2011-2012 season, tops in the NBA according to Forbes.com, and has an additional $57 million owed to him in 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 combined. SI.com reports that Bryant makes at least $10 million per year in off-court endorsements.

GOLDDIGGER ANYONE!?  She hung along 10 years being a trophy wife with that self-infatuated tool just so she could get to 'maintain her standard of living'?   The government has turned marriage into a looting mechanism.  Not that I feel sorry for Kobe or anything...the guy is an ass and he can get any cheap good looking tang he wants.

At this standard of living and income, these things are just numbers.

I think you hit the nail on the head joey.  After his rape fiasco she knew if she waited the 10years, she'd get 1/2.

Kobe is a very talented player, but he definitely didn't make any talented choice(s) with that chick he was foolin' with to get him in so much trouble.

The laws are what they are.  As men, we need to be smarter about who we marry and how we "choose" to honor our vows.  The law is very clear that enteringing into a marriage arrangement is a very serious thing and that the person you choose is your "partner" and thus gets half of everything you own.  If you are someone who can't keep it in your pants then dont get married.  Especially for these athletes.  If you are a tall, famous, superstar athlete, there are waaaay too many beautiful, agressive, young models knocking on your door and trying to sneak in your room.  You dont even have to leave the hotel!  I'd say it is impossible for a man to remain faithful.  So why even bother to get married?  Derek Jeter is the smartest athlete in the world.  Never got married and keeps his affairs discreet.

After the "alleged" rape she was holding out so she could get more money. Smart move.

OK it's one thing to give half of what you earned in marriage any athlete who doesn't sign a prenup is nuts. Child support is a given, but no one should have to pay more than 2-3 years of spousal support. Even less if they just were given (yes given) $75 million.

At some point in the near future either through ballet iniatives or a Supreme Court case these type of laws will get overturned because they violate the basic fairness under the law of America. Family courts hvaen't really been touched by major courts, but as more and more politicians and judges get divorced themselves I expect this to change (most judges are old and haven't had to go through divorce in their generation) so gold diggers should get theirs while they still can.

Any agent who doesn't recommend their client should get a prenup should never get another client. By the way child support and divorce are the number reason most athletes go bankrupt (it's not bling like the media makes you believe).

What judge is going to grant "ongoing spousal and child support," when the settlement is for 75 MILLION?! I'm pretty sure a single mother and two kids can live comfortably on 75 million dollars.
