By Matt Moore

There are various rules and regulations that prohibit NBA teams and players from talking to one another in regards to recruiting for a trade. But when that player has been given permission to talk to other teams, that all goes out the window. Such is the case with Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant, who have apparently become like teenage girls gabbing on the phone with Howard weighing where he wants to be traded to, if at all. Unfortuntely for Lakers fans, it doesn't sound like Bryant's doing a great job as a pitch man.  From the Los Angeles Times
Kobe Bryant has had at least one in-depth phone conversation with Howard recently, even discussing how Howard might fit in with the Lakers' scheme.

One person with knowledge of the conversation said Howard came away feeling as if he wouldn't be the Lakers' top option, for obvious reasons. It's Bryant's team.
via Lakers-Magic center swap might be on back burner - latimes.com.

It's slightly bizarre that two stars on different teams playing Friday night have been chatting casually about their prospective dynamic should one of them join the other. But that's the new NBA.

Bryant scaring off Howard is pretty much the most Kobe thing ever. Yes, the Lakers are 10-5, but they've also looked very beatable this season, more like a "good team that isn't winning a title" than a true contender, never more so than against the Heat (without Dwyane Wade) Thursday night. And yet Bryant has to make sure Howard knows the pecking order. It's his team, and no Defensive Player of the Year, MVP candidate,  most dominant center in the league is going to come in and take touches away from him. Bryant feels he's earned the right to determine his order in the pecking order, what with the rings and the Hall of Fame eventually and everything.

But this isn't how you bring a talent like Howard in. That's not how his makeup is geared. You have to try and get him excited. But if Bryant is good with his guys, this is a great effort to sabotage a trade, which the Times says is on the back burner, with both teams not having talked for weeks.

At least if Howard does push for and agree to a trade to the Lakers, he'll know for sure what he's getting into. It won't be Dwight's team. It will be Bryant's.

Typical unnamed source BS.  This idiots doesn't know anything about those phone conversations.  It's quite obvious he's making this crap up out of thin air.  These morons can never prove the existence of their "one person w/ knowledge".

Howard is barely averaging 20 per game on a team w/ no other options than jump shooters who need to be wide open to make a shot.  Say what you want about Bryant, he isn't stupid when it comes to basketball.  This jerk has no clue regarding those phone conversations.

Howard is not dumb either.  If Kobe and Dwight come out and say these things, I'll believe it.  I don't believe a word some hack trying to sell newspapers says.

Kobe also told Dwight he could live in one of his houses.  Oops, Kobe just lost all three houses to his wife.  Poor Kobe.  He begged for Chris Paul and whined that David Stern shot the Lakers down. Now it's Howard. Kobe will do anything to get a shot at another ring but without a big gun who will play second fiddle while LA burns, the Lakers are in a dog fight against too many good Western Conference teams.

In light of what Kobe said to Dwight Howard, I'm watching the Lakers game against the Magic and Dwight Howard already has 19 rebounds and it's only the 3rd quarter. Howard has made Bynum his woman tonight. So any thoughts about Bynum being better then
Dwight Howard should be put to rest.

Kobe shouldn't have sassed Howard because he's taking it out on Bynum. Hahahahaha. Lakers are down by 14 points and it's really sad. I"m hoping they do something to find a guard. Oh....Dwight Howard has 18 points in case anyone wanted to know.

You have to admit. It would be ironic if they traded Kobe for Howard.

Matt Moore is a clown writer. That was as boring and speculative as anything I have read by him. Matt should simply write a cloumn about how to take comments from "one person with knowledge of the conversation" and write garbage articles about it. It would undoubtedly be as interesting as this.

I'm a Bulls fan and I hope the Lakers get Howard because if the Bulls can't beat Miami I want there to be at least one team in the West who can.

At whom are you sniping?  If you have such thin skin, go cut yourself and bleed.  You would think I spelled your name incorrectly.  Read about the prefecture of Kobe before you comment.  As for grammar, you cannot start a list with a capital and then leave point 2. uncapitalized.  You don't use a comma when you put two things between a conjunction.  For example: "1. Laker Mike thinks he is smart enough to cure cancer. 2.  Laker Mike committed acts of buggery when he was a coach at Syracuse."  is correct.  This is not correct: "Lake Mike thinks he is smart enough to cure cancer because he was written six hundred peer reviewed papers in the New England Journal of Medicine, and 2.  he thinks he is the lone author in the Chicago Manual of Style.
