Kobe Bryant is talking to Dwight Howard, but is he moving Howard away from the Lakers? (Getty Images)
By Matt Moore

There are various rules and regulations that prohibit NBA teams and players from talking to one another in regards to recruiting for a trade. But when that player has been given permission to talk to other teams, that all goes out the window. Such is the case with Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant, who have apparently become like teenage girls gabbing on the phone with Howard weighing where he wants to be traded to, if at all. Unfortuntely for Lakers fans, it doesn't sound like Bryant's doing a great job as a pitch man.  From the Los Angeles Times
Kobe Bryant has had at least one in-depth phone conversation with Howard recently, even discussing how Howard might fit in with the Lakers' scheme.

One person with knowledge of the conversation said Howard came away feeling as if he wouldn't be the Lakers' top option, for obvious reasons. It's Bryant's team.
via Lakers-Magic center swap might be on back burner - latimes.com.

It's slightly bizarre that two stars on different teams playing Friday night have been chatting casually about their prospective dynamic should one of them join the other. But that's the new NBA.

Bryant scaring off Howard is pretty much the most Kobe thing ever. Yes, the Lakers are 10-5, but they've also looked very beatable this season, more like a "good team that isn't winning a title" than a true contender, never more so than against the Heat (without Dwyane Wade) Thursday night. And yet Bryant has to make sure Howard knows the pecking order. It's his team, and no Defensive Player of the Year, MVP candidate,  most dominant center in the league is going to come in and take touches away from him. Bryant feels he's earned the right to determine his order in the pecking order, what with the rings and the Hall of Fame eventually and everything.

But this isn't how you bring a talent like Howard in. That's not how his makeup is geared. You have to try and get him excited. But if Bryant is good with his guys, this is a great effort to sabotage a trade, which the Times says is on the back burner, with both teams not having talked for weeks.

At least if Howard does push for and agree to a trade to the Lakers, he'll know for sure what he's getting into. It won't be Dwight's team. It will be Bryant's.

Report: Bryant lets Howard know whose team it is

There are very few players in all of professional sports that actually control a team and have so much say in what the team does... Kobe Bryant is really the only one in the NBA. He has a say in who starts, who is traded, who is going to coach, how long he wants to play. Everyone involved with the team knows it, and all the players on the team respect it. Kobe is the Los Angeles Lakers, and i dont know anyone else that can control a team like he can. I would say only Peyton Manning is a player with even remotely as much say in what the team does, and even he is seemingly out the door in Indianapols with Andrew Luck likely coming in. Lebron could join the Lakers tomorrow and it would still 100% be Kobe's team.

Do any of us Non-Haters believe that Kobe called Howard to "Let Him Know' what time it is on HIS team?! If there was a personal call made between the two, I sure it was what day and time should I pick you up from LAX and a new idea for a Dynamic Dual ad for SportCenter! Sorry Media that Tebow isnt playing this week, Im sure you can find a good "posing' siting article to write on him today...the day isn't over yet!

Kobe and Shaq (Shaq made out to be the villian and ran out of town)
This story doesn't fit with the others.  Look up what was said about Shaq by the Miami Heat.  Listen to what people in Boston thought about Shaq last season.  Shaq was the malcontent in that situation.

Kobe and the Italian Woman ( Kobe got an Italian Woman preganant last season;Google it)
What does this have to do with Kobe being or not being a malcontent?  News flash, guys like to have sex.  Story at eleven.

Kobe and Karl Malone (Now Karl Malone doesn't acknowledge Kobe's existance on the planet)
It's said that Malone made a pass at Kobe's wife.  It's also said that, even after that, Malone wanted to come back to the Lakers but didn't think Kobe wanted him back.  His reasoning?  Because Kobe said he didn't think Malone would come back after knee surgery.  Malone looked like the primadonna in that aspect, many many people thought so, including Ric Bucher from ESPN.

Kobe and Gasol ( Gasol and Kobe do not speak to each other unless on the basketball court)
And?  Maybe if Gasol actually showed a little aggression when he played Kobe would talk to him.  Gasol has no passion and no aggression.  There's a reason he's called "GaSoft."  As it is, you don't have to be buddies to play together.

Kobe and Jim Jackson (Kobe told Jim Jackson that he can't shoot that much if he's on his team)
Proof?
Kobe and Reggie Miller having a fight (Reggie whipped his @ss)
Wait, so these are the only two people to get into a fight on the court?  Of course, Kobe also called Reggie the toughest guy he's had to defend.  Gonna need to try harder here.

Report: Bryant lets Howard know whose team it is

There is a reason that Kobe Bryant is voted one of the top hated players in the league every year. This story is just a
reminder on why. It's not because of his rings, it's because of his horrible attitude toward anything else in the universe
that doesn't benefit him!

Let me give you a run down on this guy:

Kobe and Reggie Miller having a fight (Reggie whipped his @ss)
Kobe and Colorado
Kobe and Shaq (Shaq made out to be the villian and ran out of town)
Kobe and Jim Jackson (Kobe told Jim Jackson that he can't shoot that much if he's on his team)
Kobe and Karl Malone (Now Karl Malone doesn't acknowledge Kobe's existance on the planet)
Kobe and Gasol ( Gasol and Kobe do not speak to each other unless on the basketball court)
Kobe and the Italian Woman ( Kobe got an Italian Woman preganant last season;Google it)

What is the one constant in these stories?????????? The guy is a mal content. He was just very talented but a malcontent
all the same.

Report: Bryant lets Howard know whose team it is

It doesn't matter who's team it is because in the next few years it would be howard's team. I will say that kolby is still the man on the Lakers but if he doesn't get any help he won't be winning any more titles with the squad the lakers have right now. The only other consistent scores on the Lakers are gasol and Bynum and everyone else is just garbage on the roster. Barnes is a good spark and good defender and you need fisher for leadership and the ability to hit that big shot but all the other lakers are just role players and they can't comepete with the elite teams. Its sicking to watch the lakers play and its sad but Kolby just doesn't have a good enough supporting cast to win a championship or let alone make it to the championship game. Lets get Howard and we need a PG and another great 6 man like Odom provided with the second unit.
I love how you refer to the Lakers as "we" clearly indicating you cheer for them, yet twice in the same post spell the biggest star on the team, KOBE Bryant's name terribly wrong.  Screams bandwagon fan to me.

If the call went to D-Rose instead I imagine the conversation would have been the same less the 5 rings owned
I don't believe that for a second, D-Rose know that his teams chance to win a title goes up if Howard is on his team.
