Kobe Bryant is talking to Dwight Howard, but is he moving Howard away from the Lakers? (Getty Images)
By Matt Moore

There are various rules and regulations that prohibit NBA teams and players from talking to one another in regards to recruiting for a trade. But when that player has been given permission to talk to other teams, that all goes out the window. Such is the case with Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant, who have apparently become like teenage girls gabbing on the phone with Howard weighing where he wants to be traded to, if at all. Unfortuntely for Lakers fans, it doesn't sound like Bryant's doing a great job as a pitch man.  From the Los Angeles Times
Kobe Bryant has had at least one in-depth phone conversation with Howard recently, even discussing how Howard might fit in with the Lakers' scheme.

One person with knowledge of the conversation said Howard came away feeling as if he wouldn't be the Lakers' top option, for obvious reasons. It's Bryant's team.
via Lakers-Magic center swap might be on back burner -

It's slightly bizarre that two stars on different teams playing Friday night have been chatting casually about their prospective dynamic should one of them join the other. But that's the new NBA.

Bryant scaring off Howard is pretty much the most Kobe thing ever. Yes, the Lakers are 10-5, but they've also looked very beatable this season, more like a "good team that isn't winning a title" than a true contender, never more so than against the Heat (without Dwyane Wade) Thursday night. And yet Bryant has to make sure Howard knows the pecking order. It's his team, and no Defensive Player of the Year, MVP candidate,  most dominant center in the league is going to come in and take touches away from him. Bryant feels he's earned the right to determine his order in the pecking order, what with the rings and the Hall of Fame eventually and everything.

But this isn't how you bring a talent like Howard in. That's not how his makeup is geared. You have to try and get him excited. But if Bryant is good with his guys, this is a great effort to sabotage a trade, which the Times says is on the back burner, with both teams not having talked for weeks.

At least if Howard does push for and agree to a trade to the Lakers, he'll know for sure what he's getting into. It won't be Dwight's team. It will be Bryant's.

Report: Bryant lets Howard know whose team it is

Aside from this bogus report/story. I dont see it working? If D.Howard did go to lakers? they would have to give up A.Bynum who in my opinion and many others, Bynum is the best big man in the game right now. He is a true 7 foot Center. Yes D.Howard is a super star and posts big numbers and on paper is a better center than Bynum. But I think it would serve the Lakers best to get a star level point gaurd. And it would serve D.Howard best to go to a younger team like the Clippers or Bulls or mabey Thunder??? Now that would be a sure champion team. D.Howard with the Thunder???

Report: Bryant lets Howard know whose team it is

Kobe has always wanted the public to believe that "Kobe is all about winning" when the truth is that "Kobe is all about Kobe" (as anyone with half a brain would have realized).  Shaq knew it....  Phil knew it... and obviously to that young girl in the Colorado hotel room, this probably comes as no surprise either.

It doesn't matter who's team it is because in the next few years it would be howard's team. I will say that kolby is still the man on the Lakers but if he doesn't get any help he won't be winning any more titles with the squad the lakers have right now. The only other consistent scores on the Lakers are gasol and Bynum and everyone else is just garbage on the roster. Barnes is a good spark and good defender and you need fisher for leadership and the ability to hit that big shot but all the other lakers are just role players and they can't comepete with the elite teams. Its sicking to watch the lakers play and its sad but Kolby just doesn't have a good enough supporting cast to win a championship or let alone make it to the championship game. Lets get Howard and we need a PG and another great 6 man like Odom provided with the second unit.

This definitely seals howard's fate. He will be traded to the Lakers. When stories come out like this, they always try to build up different scenarios, and try to misinform the public. Don't be naive people, he'll be a Laker, watch.

Report: Bryant lets Howard know whose team it is

I am a life-long Lakers fan

But we've endured this selfishness by Kobe Bryant because he was the talent on this team. But he's old now and against younger, quicker players, he's being neutralized by all the good teams they've faced. Notice that the Lakers haven't beaten a quality team
all year long. Notice how Shane Battie neutralized him last nite in Miami.

Against good teams he shots alot, completes a low percentage of shots, yet this idiot hasn't figured out that he's not the most
talented guy in the league anymore. That's because of his super ego and selfishness, and an unwillingness to understand he isn't
the player he was 4 years ago.

Instead of being gracious to Howard and telling him how they can share the load, this selfish tells Howard, " You will have
to fill in a role on this team."

I'm ready to pull the plug on Kobe Bryant next season at the latest. His Karma and selfishness is not what we need going forward.
The "young guy" excuse is now gone and we can all see him for who and what he is. An old man on the court, and a train wreck at

The team needs to be accountable for itself and Kobe Bryant is enabling them by trying to shoot while the other players stand
around hoping and praying he can pull out a victory for them. The other players need to learn that THEY have to pull their own
butts out the fire by playing.

How can the Lakers get a good point guard to want to come to this team when this guy is telling the best center in the game to,
" Find your roll" in our offense???????????????

Notice that no great player has wanted to come here on their on accord like Malone and Payton came to the Lakers when
Shaq called them. Gasol was traded to the Lakers. Gasol didn't come on his on accord. And Gasol doesn't want to be on the same
team with Kobe anymore because of what Kobe and Kobe's wife did to him last season.

It's time for Kobe Bryant to go.

This is literally the dumbest article I have ever seen CBS run! I'm sure Kobe is wasting time calling Dwight Howard to tell him,"Hey, Dwight if you come to L.A. don't think you will be the #1 option."  Sounds like a viable conversation to me! Not really. RIDICULOUS!
