Yahoo Sports reports that the Washington Wizards have fired Flip Saunders after a 2-15 start to the season. Ken Berger of confirms the report and saysRandy Wittman will take over as interim coach. Berger reports Saunders was fired after Wizards' loss to the 76ers Monday night in which Washington was down 30 at the half, had compiled nine assists in a half, matching Andre Iguodala's singular output, and eventually losing by 20.

Saunders was recently reportedly not on the hot seat from management, but disappointing losses to the struggling Boston Celtics in a winnable game at home, followed by a thrashing by the Philadelphia 76ers Monday night may have changed ownership's mind. The Wizards had shown some signs of life recently, beating Oklahoma City last week and losing to the Nuggets and Celtics in close games. But at 2-14, well, horseshoes and hand grenades.

The Wizards have struggled in nearly every phase of the game this season, incoherent offense, a lost defense, poor chemistry and regression from the franchise cornerstone in John Wall. If the report is accurate, it was probably time to see if someone else can try and right a ship that has gone so terribly off-course.

flip is gone. flip been around a lot. moved around a lot. not necessarily by his choice. reson flip got hired is team was bad and the other guy got fired. at some point these owners and gm's will decide flip isnt the answer. flip is as least as good a coach as adelman. thproblem for flip and guys likehimis there are only 30 something jobs. you have to find somebody that likes you or somebody you worked within the past.

I'm not sure a new coach is going to do much good with this bunch of players. The team has too many players who just can't shoot including John Wall. When your point guard gets outplayed almost every night the team is in trouble.

This fits the CBS mold.  Who really believed that this team wasn't going to get completely overhauled, no matter what management says.  Only CBSSports is shocked that a 2-15 team with players like McGee who have no idea what "team concept" is, fires their coach.  Then, in the same paragraph, point out that the loss to Boston was disappointing and also a sign of recent life.  Well done Matt Moore, you make your mommy proud.

WOW - who saw that coming?  I mean really, 2-15.  The Wizards are not the Egg McMuffin of basketball teams, but really, 2-15.  They need players, caoching and a new GM.  Where's Larry Brown when you need him?

I agree with the Ravens and Azn. The coach was a wuss and Washington is playing with a Wussy name, which makes it hard to get decent free agents, not unlike the NFL Buccaneers when they had those orange uniforms. One change is made, now with the Other! Go Bullets!!

Heck YES~!  This team has been in a major funk since the 80's with a slow spiral downward that even MJ couldn't fix.  Leonis needs to bring in a hard-nosed coach like a KC Jones/Don Nelson type that won't take crap from any of these neophytes that think thery're the next coming.  The players they have either haven't been taught the details since they came out of college early to put in the work it takes to breed championships or they simply have a lack of talent, chemistry, or a burning desire to succeed at this level that might have been too easy for them before in college.

Gotta like the uniform and court change in colors--at least it reminds me of those good ol' days even though the product couldn't beat a college team at this juncture!
