Stop us if you've heard this one.  LeBron James is consdiering the dunk contest. Again. From the Palm Beach Post
“I have thought about it before and a few times in the past I kind of had an ankle injury that kind of kept me out of it and a couple of times I was just like, ‘You know what, I’m going to go in here and rest my legs for this weekend and then get back to the regular season,” James said. “But, I mean, they say a lot of the greats have done it and I’ve watched it over the years.”

“It’s always a fence year for me. I know they’re getting tired of me, though, so I’m not even going to start up nothing.”
Why, LeBron? Why must you tease us, so? James committed at the 2009 dunk contest for the 2010 edition. Then he simply slid out from the obligation. It was a killer disappointment and set up one of the least impressive dunk contests in history (oh, Gerald Wallace, such painful memories).

James won't be joining us this year, either. He seems hellbent on getting his name in the papers, and by papers I mean internet about being in the dunk contest. But that rest is too valuable. And James honestly has very little upside to participating. He'll have massive expectations being stacked up against all those players and should he lose, it's just one more thing to add to his resume of failure. How do you exceed expectations in the dunk contest? James already had the second best dunk of the decade over John Lucas III Sunday. And after watching Blake Griffin destroyed Kendrick Perkins Monday, would you want to go up against the reigning champ?

The reality is that James should have done the contest in his second year, or sometime in his first five. His wear and tear, position relative to the greats in the game, oh, yeah, and massive number of parties he hosts and attends during All-Star Weekend make it way too much to invest in. But he'll continue to tease, because he knows Michael Jordan did it. But barring a miracle, it will remain a missing piece of his legacy, even it's largely a silly exhibition.

But, if he did do it...

LeBron James considering dunk contest. Again.

dogfight02.... I admire Jordan is those dunking contest, but remember he got beat by Wilkins in 1985 before he won those back to back titles in 86-87...

It was actually 87-88 but that doesn't really matter.

Wilkins was a beast, no doubt about that, but at least Jordon didn't duck him. Those dunk contests between Jordon and Wilkins were awesome and everyone looked forward to them. And people wonder why there's such a disinterest in the NBA anymore. To be honest, I could careless if I saw another highlight of Lebron the rest of my life. What a phony

LeBron James considering dunk contest. Again.

James might enter...but he won't. The man loves to be in the headlines and probably thought this would get him a few. In the end, he will back out.

LeBron James considering dunk contest. Again.

Does anyone really care about the dunk contes anymore or for the NBA for that fact.  We are all talking about overpaid cry babies who make millions of dollars a year and complain because they have to play on Christmas Day.  If family means that much then go get a 9-5 making 40K a year and keep quiet

LeBron James considering dunk contest. Again.

Is Lebron the best player in the league this year? Now that Bryant is on the downside of his career, probably. Does he deserve comparisons to Jordan? I don't think so. Even if you are only comparing regular seasons and accumulating stats and not winning here are the numbers

Ranking their top 11 seasons by win shares

Jordan 87-88 21.2
Jordan 95-96 20.4
Jordan 90-91 20.3
James 08-09 20.3
Jordan 88-89 19.8
Jordan 89-90 19.0
James 09-10 18.5
Jordan 96-97 18.3
Jordan 91-92 17.7
Jordan 92-93 17.2
Jordan 86-87 16.9
you notice that Jordan is on that list 9 times including the top 3 and James just twice (in his MVP seasons).

If you start comparing playoffs and championships, it is not even close.

" most guys would kill to have his jump shot.... May as well have said.  Being the best doesnt make you better than everyone"

Really ? saying lebrons jumper is nothing special is the same as saying "being the best doesnt make you better than everyone" ??? that implies lebron has the best jump shot. Best option available to you is to find a a 10 inch icepick and headbutt it as hard as you can. Moron

dont diss on Wallace
he was brought back because of these memories, he had no passion for it, he is not as athletic as he used to be.

dont forget him less than a decade beforehand
