The Big O is headed to the big house.

Former NBA player Oliver Miller has reportedly been sentenced to a year in jail after he was convicted of first-degree assault for arrested for pistol-whipping a man at a Maryland barbecue back in April.

HometownAnnapolis.com has the details.
[Judge Paul A.] Hackner sentenced Miller to five years of prison, suspending all but one year. He recommended work release and ordered five years of probation upon release. Miller is to have no contact with the victim, Jason Ray Worley, 32, and must complete anger management. His attorney, Paul Mack, called the sentence reasonable.

Prosecutors say at least three people saw Miller, known as "The Big O" during his nine-season NBA career, attack his girlfriend's brother, Worley, in front of the victim's home on Birchcrest Court in Arnold on April 17.

Deputy State's Attorney Thomas Fleckenstein said Miller got out of his car and "blindsided" Worley while he talked to his sister - Miller's girlfriend - using a handgun to repeatedly strike Worley in the face and head.
Miller, 41, plead guilty to the first-degree assault charge in November. He was facing up to 25 years in prison but had no prior convictions.

Miller, who has reportedly tipped the scales at more than 400 pounds, played nine seasons in the NBA, averaging 7.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. The journeyman center played for the Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks, Sacramento Kings and Minnesota Timberwolves.

I think it has more the do with the socio-economic situation than skin color.  But you keeping thinking it's not predujice that motivates your interpretation of statistics, obviously that is your reality.

For all those saying this is an NBA thing, or a color thing... please think about what you're saying.  It has nothing to do w/ either and posting something like that just shows how ignorant you are.

Keep telling yourself that, eventually you might even believe it.  It's a proven fact the odds of a black person being charged with a serious crime are higher then a white man.  I just read somewhere that as of 2004 ( yes, a few years ago) 45.1 percent of men in jail for drug offenses were black, yet black men didn't come anywhere close to representing 45 percent of the population.. black people overall only represent around 13 percent of the population, black men even less then that.

Out of every 100 thousand white men, 736 are in prison.  Black men?  Just under 5 thousand....  There are 4 times the amount of black woman in jail then white woman.

You're probably thinking I'm prejudice but if so, you couldn't be more wrong if you tried.  I'm just into facts and not nonesense and I'm not one bit afraid to speak the truth.

But yeah, you go on believing the odds of a white person pistol whipping somebody are the same as a black person doing that...

I'll live in the real world, you live in your pretend little bubble.

Only a year?  For someone as violent and out of control as Miller, that is a very light sentence.  Typical Arkansas basketball product under racist Richardson.

Awesome.  Just awesome.  Pistol whipping some dude.  I wonder what else he does that he sees in movies.  I wonder if he makes striking sounds in a fight.  Psshhh!  Psshhh!

I saw that in a movie.

If Miller had shown that much passion on the floor and in practice, he might stlll be in the NBA, and he never would have gotten to 400 pounds.  He is quite fortunate to get off with a year of jail time.  I hope he understand the major second chance he is being given.  The problem is that it's difficult for anyone over 40 to find work without a felony on his record.  I hope he figures out a way to straighten out his life.

Have to say I was pretty suprised when I saw this.  He always seemed very reserved, wonder what the guy did to set him off.  Regardless, sad situation.

I agree with you guys .... man that dude that stuck up for this guy and coached him what to do in jail? Oh man .... That's exactly how they think. That's what their thought process is like. It's absolutely astonishing. It's a race issue, it's a stupidity issue. It costs us money when people go to jail. It's a drain on society. Just terrible. Makes me sick.

No doubt he gave the guy a concussion and he is possibly still suffering the consequences of his "head-beating".  This man should be in jail for much longer than a year, no matter how many priors he has.
