Kevin Love suspended two games for Scola stomp

The NBA announced Monday that Timberwolves forward Kevin Love has been suspended two games without pay for stepping on the face of Rockets forward Luis Scola Friday.

The league said Love was suspended for "driving his foot into the upper body and face" and upgraded it to a Flagrant 2 foul.

Love claimed it was an accident after the game saying, "He was kind of right there ... I have size-19 feet. He just happened to be there. I had nowhere to go. I kind of tripped up. I just had nowhere to step. It was a Heat-of-the-moment type play. He was there and it happened to be his face."

The NBA didn't see it that way though.

Love released this statement Monday after the suspension:

”I want to publicly apologize to Luis Scola and the Houston Rockets. My intention is to never hurt another player on the basketball court. I’ve always had the utmost respect for the game of basketball and all of my opponents. I also apologize to my coaches, teammates and our fans for the consequences of my actions.”

It's a blow to the Wolves who are actually in the mix for the eight-seed in the West, but every game is of major importance. Two games without their best player could be something that comes back to bite them.

Fair suspension? It's so hard to judge intent and Love claimed innocence after the play, but still, the video suggests otherwise. Stu Jackson and the league determined it was a dirty play by Love and chose to suspended him for it. Love isn't a dirty player and like he said, it was a heat-of-the-moment type of play where you just lose your mind for a second. It's easy to see why he got the suspension and honestly, not all the surprising, I guess.

The Wolves next two games are against the Kings and Grizzlies.

Kevin Love suspended two games for Scola stomp

Scola fouled first.   Then Love,  Then Scolla,  Then Love, then Scolla fell.   Possesion changed to the rockets.    Scolla rolled onto his back at the moment Love was running.   Loves foot hit his chest(not face).   Scolla grabs the shin.    Toes hit his face.

Its possible that Love didn't do it intentionally.   Its also possible he did.    Most objective people would have ejected them both for that game.    You could have ejected them both for that exchange.    You could have also ejected Scolla for what he did to rubio in the 4th quarter.

Kevin Love suspended two games for Scola stomp

I'm really tired of the people calling this fair.     Fair would have been calling a foul on scola which would have stopped the exchange.   Fair would be enforcing the flagrant foul rule on other players not just Love.     Fair would have been no suspension since other players have done worse flagrant 2 fouls with no suspension.

If the NBA wants to claim it doesn't tolerate this behavior -- then stop it.    But to don't claim that you aren't going to tolerate it when you let 90% of them go because of how popular the person committing the foul is.

From all of the flagrant 2 fouls this was the worst punishment dolled out for a single offense this season.    &nbs
p; And what is sad is the others were obviously intentional and could have caused worse harm to the other player.   What did they get -- ejection, no suspension, no fine.    So how is giving 2 game suspension fair?

I wonder what would have happened if LeBron James had done this.   I doubt there would be any fine, suspension, or ejection.

imo  Scola, Love, and all three refs should be suspended for one game if the NBA is serious about stopping this.   Scola isn't exactly innocent here.   He had 2 potentially flagrant fouls in the last two rockets/wolves games.

So Scola falls on his stomach, then rolls over to flat on his back in the middle of the lane and doesn't expect to get stepped on? That is a bogus suspension. If you lay on your back in the middle of the key and all you get is a little sneaker in the face, consider yourself lucky.

The video doesn't show what all led up to the moment either. Also, he probably wouldn't have got the foot in the face had he not tried to trip Kevin Love. Wake up and look at everything that happened before the actual incident NBA!!!!

I actually kinda liked what he did myself.  As bad as that may sound BUT, I can't help but wonder how much of an uproar there would be if it were Kevin Garnett or Chris Bosh or someone like that.  I believe the word "thug" would probably be used more than a few times.

Just my thought, maybe I'm wrong...

Really, NBA? I am sure Kevin Love absolutely wanted to kill Luis Scola. Because, you know, humans are vicious creatures. Only Albert Haynesworthless and MAYBE 0.00001% of the world population would step on someone's head with intent to cause harm.
