For almost 24 hours after Blake Griffin detonated a dunk over him, Kendrick Perkins trended worldwide on Twitter. Griffin's dunk changed Perkins' reputation from the tough guy in the paint to the guy that got posterized.

No bother to him though, he says. Via Yahoo! Sports:
"If I was in the same position, in the same rotation, I’m going to jump again and again and again,” Perkins told Yahoo! Sports. “I don’t care. A lot of people are afraid of humiliation or don’t know how to handle embarrassment or would even get embarrassed. I don’t care.

“I’m the same Perk you’re going to see. I’m still going to sign autographs the same way. I ain’t going to change. The people that move out the way and stuff are the people who have insecurity problems.

“That’s my job. How will my teammates look at me if next time I just back out the way and just let him dunk when I’m supposed to be defensive-minded, a shot-blocker? That would be a coward move on me. He’d just have to dunk on me again.”

One thing that did bother Perk though? LeBron James' reaction to Griffin's dunk. Specifically, his excited tweet about it that said, "Dunk of the Year! @blakegriffin just dunked on Kendrick Perkins so hard!!! Wow! I guess I’m No. 2 now. Move over #6.” LeBron of course talking about his dunk over John Lucas III.

Said Perkins:
"You don’t see Kobe [Bryant] tweeting,” Perkins said. “You don’t see Michael Jordan tweeting. If you’re an elite player, plays like that don’t excite you. At the end of the day, the guys who are playing for the right reasons who are trying to win championships are not worrying about one play.

“They also are not tweeting about themselves talking about going down to No. 2. I just feel [James] is always looking for attention and he wants the world to like him.”

One thing to note: I think the reason you don't see Kobe or Michael Jordan tweeting is because they aren't on Twitter. Just a theory.

But Perk's sour grapes here about LeBron seems a bit petty to me. A lot of players tweeted about Griffin's dunk, including Chris Paul, Magic Johnson and Kevin Love. I do see Perk's point though in that the way LeBron's tweet was worded makes it seem like LeBron is a tad vain.

The Heat play the Thunder March 25. That game was already must-watch, but it's got another storyline with it now. I think LeBron might try to Mosgov and Lucas Perkins all that the same time.

Gotta say... I like Perkins approach, really the only one you can take in that situation.  As for what he says about LeBron, SPOT ON.  EVEN if a social media like Twitter was available then, they would not make those comments...  you let your play do ALL the talking.  So far LeBrons play has shown that...  high flying and powerful, until the game means something.

Good read Royce, well done sir.

I watched Reggie Lewis posterize Air Jordan on a dunk back in the 1990's. No big press about it. Jordan actually said he deserved it as he didn't respect Reggie that night, who by the way poured in 37 points. Straight up 2 Guard vs 2 Guard. I forget who won the game, prob Chi as the Celtics were really bad then. Point is. LeBron is a self centered tool. Expect more crap from him, its his way. If I were Perk at 6'11", 275lbs, the next time we meet up I would absolutey floor LeBron, get tossed from the game, fined a game or 2 BUT send a message to others, don't come in here and expect an easy time. I have seen some of the best dunkers get theirs and then some from men like Unseld, Chameberlin, Lucas, Mahorn, Silas, Luscotoff, but **sigh** those days are LONG gone. Pansies!

As a Thunder fan and someone who lives in OKC, I am glad to have this guy playing here. The attitude he brings has helped this team. I am proud he didn't back away and tried to stop it. He didn't take Blake out, like he could've. He tried to make a basketball play. Blake is just more athletic and can jump higher. No bones about that. You could make a book of people blake has posterized.
Perkins will continue to scowl and man the paint the same way he always has. I LOVE THIS GUY!

Hey Perk,......the real solution to this is, you simply shut LeBron up by shoving a Championship Ring in his face. Would you rather have a ring or 15 years of meaningless dunks. We all know LeBron is vainful and still humiliated with losing the NBA championship last year. LeBron thinks he's the King of Dunk. Move over LeBron, Griffin stole your spotlight. LeBron still has no tweet away Perk, and rub it in good.

Kendrick Perkins please shut up and smile for your posterization. The great Michael Jordan was smilin petty for John Starks on a poster so stop acting like a beeyacth. The Thunder won the game anyway, stop whining. Any and every player in NBA history (who plays any D) is or will be on a poster. It's just your turn fool. Besides he did Gallinari worst

Perkins slams LeBron about his tweet on Griffin

I think he hit the head of the nail about LeBron's tweet.  It's not the fact that LeBron tweets, its that he uses it to gain as much attention to himself as he can.  He can't compliment another play without praising himself at the same time.  Had he simply said "wow, dunk of the year" I don't see a problem, but when he adds "guess I'm No. 2 now" he just comes across like an arogant fool.
