The unsubstantiated rumor that simply will not die has reportedly prompted a profanity-laced verbal exchange between Miami Heat All-Star forward LeBron James and a fan of the Washington Wizards.

James and the Heat defeated the Wizards, 106-89, at the Verizon Center on Friday night. As James put together 18 points, 9 assists and 2 rebounds in the victory, a fan allegedly began making loud comments about a rumored 2010 relationship between James' mother and then-Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Delonte West

Deadspin.com notes an NBCWashington.com report with details of the exchange.
LeBron just got into a verbal altercation with a fan. Spoke to the fan. Wanted to give Heat PR time to comment on the LeBron fan altercation. I’ll update you if they end up doing so, but here’s the story.

I saw a Wizards fan and LeBron in a heated conversation on the sideline during the game Friday night. I spoke to the fan and got his side.

Fan Bob Moore made a comment to LeBron about Delonte West and LeBron’s mom… [According] to Moore, LeBron said "The only reason you talk s*** is because you know I can’t come off the court right now and beat your a**."

Also according to Moore, LeBron continued "But if I had a free pass, I’d kick your a** right now." Moore replied "I’m right here baby. Let’s go" before security stepped in.
James' behavior runs the entire spectrum from "role model" to "insufferable," but the strong temptation here is to give him a pass. This isn't the first time James has reportedly been in this type of situation and it won't be the last. He surely feels like the reasonable, "If you disrespect my mother in public, any response is fair game" argument is in play here. Sure, he's a global brand and a "King," but he's a person, too. Defending the virtue of one's mother is an inalienable human right.

Should James be held to a higher standard of conduct than that, given his level of fame and the scrutiny that follows him wherever he goes? Sure, in an ideal world he would ignore it, brush it off, or let security handle it. The heckler wins this one because he got James to engage with him, but at least James leaves the situation knowing that he stood up for his mother.

Even so, if you're the Heat, you respectfully request that James inform you first of future fan comments so that an exchange like this doesn't wind up caught on video and posted to YouTube, where it could do some serious damage to his image if viewed out of context.

You only get a pass to defnd your mother's virtue

...if she has any.  Gotta be tough for LeBron to defend the indefensible.

dcrum35..... Let's use your analogy on yourself:
You really just need to shut up
Ignore the media
Stop posting worthless crap
Stop replying/reading the paper and blogs about athletes
Stop listening to LeBron when he plays, then crying about it on hereetc..
etc..
etc..

Getting REAL OLD, REAL FAST

Hey dcrum35, you might be starting something here...... Why don't you be the trend-setter

Report: LeBron in heated exchange with heckler?

I've bought tickets to games and never came across where it says heckling is included. Owners allow it because they want your money at any cost. Telling professional athletes to act professional is a bunch of BS. Since you are professional, tell me what you would do if you were working at Chucky Cheese giving out drinks and a customer came in talking about your mom being a whore and sleeping with the delivery guy from Domino's? Don't worry, I'll wait for an honest reply. I'm sure you would just ignore the guy and keep serving those drinks.

Report: LeBron in heated exchange with heckler?

People in Cleveland hated Lebrons mom when Lebron was most popular here in Cleveland. She was a distraction during the games and was always getting arrested. She didn't even raise him his basketball coach did because she is a big mess. The only reason Why Delonte had sex with her is because Lebron slept with Delontes gf.

Lebron, more than any other NBA player, has a target on his back. That's his fault. Yet, say something about my mom, it gets personal.

i am no fan of the King.  BUT, he has every right to defend his mom.

if he is smart, he pulls over a security guard and has the guy removed.   i dont know if you arent allowed to disrespect someones Mom in an NBA arena, but that would be a solid rule.

Stay away from the physical confrontations LBJ.  Keep it on the court. Do what Jordan used to do and punish the heckler's team with a series of nasty dunks.  Let your game do the talking...or tweeting

LeBron does have a free pass.  He should have someone tell security to remove this guy or have the guy banned from Heat games.  These hecklers will bait athletes and other celebrities just to hook them and then they will have their youtube moment.  If the King can't handle a scumbag, how can he handle the pressure of a playoff game?  Jordan had his everpresent personal butt kicker, that guy with the silver perm.  The King shouldn't be wasting his time with dealing with some smarmy fan who paid $100.00 for a ticket and what ever for parking and concessions.

I'll bet Dennis Rodman would be a great bodyguard or heckler killer for LBJ.  Give him a call.

Sticks and Stones. Heckling is a part of the game. Sometimes it goes to far but look, Lebron makes more money in a week then some will make in a lifetime. Needs to keep it in perspective. Besides did is mom date the guy? Most of these guys are just babies, worried about being "disrespected". Grow up.

I don't really like LeBron, but how about some decency from this "Bob Moore". I think we can all surmise that he came up with the most vile, disrespectful things he could think of to say. At some point, fans need to be held accountable. I don't think that buying a ticket gives carte blanche to be as nasty and rude as you can be.

What a piece of work...another clown that gives the NBA a bad name.  Hope he never gets his title but unfortunatly he will not so much because of him but the tremendous talent he has around him.  The only way I see he doesn't if he turns off a lot of his teamates which forces the frachise to either get rid of him of them...a real possibility looking at his track record.
