The unsubstantiated rumor that simply will not die has reportedly prompted a profanity-laced verbal exchange between Miami Heat All-Star forward LeBron James and a fan of the Washington Wizards.

James and the Heat defeated the Wizards, 106-89, at the Verizon Center on Friday night. As James put together 18 points, 9 assists and 2 rebounds in the victory, a fan allegedly began making loud comments about a rumored 2010 relationship between James' mother and then-Cleveland Cavaliers teammate Delonte West notes an report with details of the exchange.
LeBron just got into a verbal altercation with a fan. Spoke to the fan. Wanted to give Heat PR time to comment on the LeBron fan altercation. I’ll update you if they end up doing so, but here’s the story.

I saw a Wizards fan and LeBron in a heated conversation on the sideline during the game Friday night. I spoke to the fan and got his side.

Fan Bob Moore made a comment to LeBron about Delonte West and LeBron’s mom… [According] to Moore, LeBron said "The only reason you talk s*** is because you know I can’t come off the court right now and beat your a**."

Also according to Moore, LeBron continued "But if I had a free pass, I’d kick your a** right now." Moore replied "I’m right here baby. Let’s go" before security stepped in.
James' behavior runs the entire spectrum from "role model" to "insufferable," but the strong temptation here is to give him a pass. This isn't the first time James has reportedly been in this type of situation and it won't be the last. He surely feels like the reasonable, "If you disrespect my mother in public, any response is fair game" argument is in play here. Sure, he's a global brand and a "King," but he's a person, too. Defending the virtue of one's mother is an inalienable human right.

Should James be held to a higher standard of conduct than that, given his level of fame and the scrutiny that follows him wherever he goes? Sure, in an ideal world he would ignore it, brush it off, or let security handle it. The heckler wins this one because he got James to engage with him, but at least James leaves the situation knowing that he stood up for his mother.

Even so, if you're the Heat, you respectfully request that James inform you first of future fan comments so that an exchange like this doesn't wind up caught on video and posted to YouTube, where it could do some serious damage to his image if viewed out of context.

Report: LeBron in heated exchange with heckler?

The choke artist is the most hated player in sports...Hes been this way for years. Never was challenged and always babied by his mother. Im sure he is a mommas boy. I see another Ron Artest here. Id love to see that image fall to lower depth than it already is with a nice 50 game suspension for assaulting a fan. Hey choke artist, ever here this one "sticks and stones.." Must be the akron way to not take personal insults when you dish them out...Typical Ak-Rowdy as they say.

lebrons' mom should not be fair game to any fan, drunk or not. if his child was ill and you goof on that-well you do the math. besides, theres alot more to heckle him about; chocking in the playoffs for one. just because you pay to get in, please act civillized. remember there are children around.

If someone in my workplace says something derogatory to me about my mom, I do not get a free pass. In fact, if I make a comment about physically assaulting the person if I had a free pass, I would likely get fired. In fact, I have not reacted with agression to a "mother" comment since I was in high school. Lebron is getting better treatment than the rest of us if we only call him out for acting like the spoiled little child he still is.

As an aside, the fact that it gets under his skin so much creates some substantiation for the rumor about LeBron's mom and DWest.

I know why the fan made fun of both Lebron's mom and Delonte West. In the song "Martians VS. Goblins" by Game featuring Lil Wayne and Tyler, the Creator, Game raps about how Game and Delonte had s*x with LeBron's mom, and he got pi$$ed. Moore made a remark about that, and everyone knows how much LeBron cares for his mother.
I'm not a rap freak, just wanted to put some insight up there. But seriously, that song is awesome, although it's EXTREMELY INNAPROPRIATE.

for me, his mom is fair game.  she became a celebrity and LOVES the notoriety of being 'LEBRON'S MOM.' remember that from the back of his high school jersey - her jumping around and mugging for the cameras, letting everyone know who she is?  she put herself out there, so he has to live with the comments and hecklers.  it is so ghetto to jump on someone who says something about your mom.  if you know the truth, what difference does it make what someone says?

i overheard a girl in akron tell everyone in earshot during a discussion of lebron james. she said, 'i know lebron's mom!  she used to smoke crack with my grandmother!'

Another tough guy in the stands hoping to get a millionaire player to come after him physically so he can sue him.  Since this guy wants a piece of Lebron then let's arrange a fight between these two in the ring or a cage where the guy gives up his right to claim he was assaulted and to sue for "pain & suffering", I'll bet his big mouth would shut faster than a mouse trap.

I am definitely critical of LeBron James when I think he deserves it...  I feel right now his place in history isn't near as high as some want to put it.

That said, I wholheartedly side with him here.

I like trash talk between players, and that can get a little personal because there are opportunites to get back at them (shut them up, borderline dirty shots, hard screens, etc)...

I like heckling, it's part of the appeal of going to the game.  But keep it on the court, because LeBron is right - the only reason to talk that kind of crap is because he knows nothing can happen.  He went too far, and MUCH farther than I imaine he would if they were playing on asphalt or drinking at a bar.

Tell you what I would have done if I was Lebron. I would have paid some random guy about 100g's to knock the *piss* (insert random expletive between the *) out of him.  He is a star but there is a point you don't cross.  He's human too.
