By Matt Moore

While Amar'e Stoudemire returned to practice following the death of his brother and is expected to play Tuesday when Linsanity and the Knicks face the Raptors, Carmelo Anthony told reporters Monday that he thinks talk of how he will fit in with Jeremy Lin is "funny." As to who's going to be in charge when Melo retakes the floor following an injury absence, Anthony couldn't have been clearer. It's the Lin Show until further notice. From ESPN NY:
"When I'm reading the stuff, it's more funny than anything because at the end of the day I know what I bring to the game, I know what I bring to this team," Anthony said on Monday after missing practice due to a strained right groin. "My teammates know that. But to say, 'How can I fit in?' It's easy; give him the ball and space out. I get back to doing what I know how to do best. So we'll see."

Anthony said he is confident that he can fit in well with Lin, who missed practice on Monday for a standard recovery day and will play on Tuesday against the Toronto Raptors. Anthony has missed the Knicks' last three games after injuring his groin on Monday against Utah. He is happy that Lin has emerged to take some of the load off of his shoulders.

"I know there's questions about, 'Can I fit in?' and stuff like that, but this is like a dream come true to me," Anthony said. "It takes some pressure off of me. I don't have to play point guard. I don't have to try to get Amare 20 points, try to get this guy 20 points, me try to go out there and get 25-30 points a night, play defense, rebound do the whole thing."
via New York Knicks' Carmelo Anthony could return this week, likes Jeremy Lin - ESPN New York.

This is exactly what you want to hear from Anthony if you're a Knicks fan. There's no question Stoudemire can co-exist, even flourish with Lin doing what he's done in the superstar duo's absence. Stoudemire's best value comes from working out of the pick and roll, either exploding to the rim or catching and shooting in the space provided. Lin's work with Tyson Chandler and Jared Jeffries has demonstrated a command over the set and he should fit in perfectly fine with Stoudemire.

Anthony, who has primarily been an isolation scorer throughout his career and particulary in his firs year with the Knicks, is a bit trickier. But Anthony is certainly saying the right things about how to keep the critics at bay. He wants his own looks, to be sure, but he's also happy to have a guard to create. Anthony had been asked to essentially run point forward at the start of this season with Toney Douglas' struggles and Iman Shumpert's inexperience, and the results were not good. This is a tremendous opportunity for him to have shots created for him, to be allowed to work in space, and to have his incredible talent produce on easy looks versus exceptionally difficult ones.

The only question is if Anthony will be good to his word and take it.

Melo says playing with Lin 'a dream come true'

The second you start talking about what you felt and sensed is the second this conversation ceases to be meaningful. Thanks for the laughs tho.

Can i have some of whatever you are smoking? A few posts ago you said the celtics ran circles around the knicks in the playoffs now you said the knicks were close but you never got the sense the knicks could pull it out. Make up your mind. And did you just say Chandler was a proven great pick and roll player???? wow

I never said start the 2 either, you just ignorantly assumed I meant that or did.

And please, I would take Fields over Melo anyday, You know what...I don't care who the SG is anyone but Melo slowing the flow and missing like crazy.

Melo says playing with Lin 'a dream come true'

Here's a recent article with a poll in it..

NBA Trade Talk: Deron Williams for  an Intriguing Possibility

Last year, the  rumor mill churned out at least two or three Deron Williams and rumors every day. The two of them weren't joined at the hip, but it was just a matter of time before they were traded by their respective teams.

Ultimately, they were. The Utah  traded Williams to the New Jersey Nets, and the Denver  traded Anthony to the New York Knicks.

Given the way both teams are looking right now, you wonder if they might be traded for each other.

I'll admit, this isn't my idea. Some random guy posed it to ESPN's Chad Ford in a, and Ford was surprisingly open to the idea:

I'm not sure a move like that is totally out of the question for either team. If Nets don't get , trading D Will is a real possibility and the Knicks love him. Adding Melo would give them a (tarnished) star name to build around that's already locked up to a long-term deal.

Now, you don't need somebody like Chad Ford to tell you that the Nets and Knicks are both flawed teams, and that a D-Will for Melo swap would solve problems on both sides of the fence.

But since Ford didn't shoot the idea out of the sky right then and there, one is left to wonder just how possible this trade really is.

Actually, it's very possible.

All you have to do is run it through . The two salaries stack up reasonably well, and both teams would be able to make the money work.

Which team would "win" a Melo for Williams swap?

  • Knicks

    70.3%
  • Nets

    29.7%

Who would they pass the ball to? Wow you are clueless.  How about those 2 guys names Chandler and Amare? You know... those proven great pick and roll players?  Duh.  And Williams can shoot well from the perimeter, Lin can drive himself to the rim and shoot a midrange jumper. All kinds of scoring scenerios.

Melo says playing with Lin 'a dream come true'

Eh dude I'm not buying it. I watched every single Knicks game last year by the way.  I never got the sense that the Knicks were in it during the Boston postseason matchup, because I watched every Boston matchup in the regular season as well last year.  It was the same thing. Knicks got close in those games too, Boston always outsmarted and outplayed them in the end and won ALL of those games too. I never got the feeling it would be any different throughout the playoffs and I was 100% right. You obviously just couldn't figure out that Boston was a smarter team and that in itself would make it near impossible for the Knicks to win. But you kept hoping for Melo to come through right?  riiightttt

so you are trading Melo for D Will but you wont play him the whole time with Lin? So your saying D Will playing less minutes is better for the Knicks? Who exactly would they pass the ball to?

Except that they've traded Felton and don't run your little dual pg wetdream anymore. Have you sent in your resume to any front offices lately?

Yeah why not? Felton and Lawson were also playing together on the court, not just splitting time. I don't know why you guys think its such an aweful idea to have 2 PG's on the floor a few minutes a game anyway, its been proven to be successful before.

Most of the time though you take Williams out and put Lin in and vice versa.

You guys have to be kidding if you think Melo is a better player than Williams.
