Kobe Bryant told reporters Friday that he believes the constant trade rumors surrounding Pau Gasol have negatively impacted him. From the Los Angeles Times:
Though it appears pointing out a discrepancy involves splitting hairs, Bryant believes reports linking Gasol in a trade has made it "an emotional couple of days for him."

"Personally I don't understand that crap," Bryant said regarding the Lakers' effort to trade Gasol. "But it is what it is. It's important for him to know we support him. I support him especially. I just want him to go out there and play hard and do what he does best for us."

Now that's nothing new, with Gasol having off-court issues affect his performance as they did during an understandably rough time in the playoffs last spring. But it is telling that both Bryant and Gasol are not denying that he's on the block or being shopped constantly. This is yet another impact of the vetoed Chris Paul trade and subsequent fallout.

The Lakers took a step backward when they were forced to trade Lamar Odom because of his sense of betrayal over being involved in the Paul deal David Stern vetoed. In order to overcome that, the Lakers are considering a trade, which will have to involve Gasol due to the low value of their supporting players, ownership's belief in Andrew Bynum, and the fact they have to trade for a significant upgrade at the star level and not role players support. So Gasol is discussed, and with media so prevalent, rumors get out, as well as I'm sure discussions being held with Gasol regarding this situation.

For his part, Gasol says things are not affecting him, that he's blocking it out and playing, and to be fair, his numbers aren't significantly down, outside of his field goal percentage which is below 50 percent for the first time in nearly a decade. But there's an impact, and it's continuing to keep the Lakers out of the elite tier of teams. Until this situation is resolved one way or another, Gasol will have to play through it.

Mitch K. has already messed up once with LO and Brown, don't make it worst by getting 3 average players for an All-Star.  Why don't LA just worry about upgrading the PG position in the draft or free agency next year?  I know we want to win a title every year but PG has been our achilles heel for years.  We need a big name, and we don't have to give up probably part of the best front line to get it.

Why trade Gasol and then get pummeled on the inside? doesn't make sense.  we just need an upgrade at point guard, and start Artest for his defensive capabilities. why not package steve blake with first rounder? or better yet, as kobe says, have better scouting Lin on the knicks roster.

I do not understand why the lakers have this ambition to break up this team. There is really no need for Pau to be trade considering him, along with Bynum, and Kobe make up a very good 3 in this league. Gasol and Bynum are the best C-PF tandem in the league and kobe playing at the high level he is, no need to break something thats not broken. big deal the lakers lost last year, they were trying to make their 4th consecutive run at the title. for petes sake, were technically still in a laker dynasty considering they just won back-to-back and had 3 finals appearances in a row within the past 3 years. everyone needs to stop these delusional comments

jeeeesus......the dunk REALLY was not that impressive.   Just like Dwight's Superman dunk WASN'T that impressive and I'm a Magic fan, so it shows my lack of bias........they both just threw the ball into the rim, simple dry and cut.    And go look at the's not hard to dunk on somebody when u stiff-arm them in mid-air.   It was a charge and I promise u, if he goes straight up with it...Perk 8 times out of 10 woulda sent it straight down Blake's ugly snout.   People need to get off of this guy's testicles, really.    &nbs

The lakers need to stop all trade talks and concentrate on the team @ hand.
I like our defensive intensity and I do think they need to keep both big men and
add a passer first type of PG. like a Ramone sessions or a Calderone.
If we trade 4 these types of guys that average 10 to 15 points and 6+ asst.
we don't have to loose any of the big men. we have draft picks
and an 8.some Million dollar exemption. I would like a guy like Nash though
that would be sweeeet success. U never know? Our offense is sufficiant enough
to compliment our defense.
So in the end, leave Pau where he is OKCool

If the Lakers trade Gasol they will only be beating themselves. They need to stop the rumors and focus on getting back to the playoffs, because if they want another ring the time is now, because Kobe only has another 2 or 3 good years left.

Gasol has GOT to stay, he the one who Helped us win 2 NBA titles and 3 WCF Championships in 4 years.  Trading him would be a terrible mistake...We're fine the way we are NOW
