Chucking the basketball at the chest of an NBA referee while angrily disputing a call: It's one of those things that you just can't do without hearing from the NBA league office.

Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo was ejected from a Sunday night game against the Pistons in Detroit for throwing the basketball at referee Sean Wright after he did not receive a foul call on a drive to the basket. The ejection -- prompted by two back-to-back technical fouls -- came in the third quarter of a 96-81 loss to the Pistons.

The NBA announced on Monday that Rondo would be suspended for two games without pay for "throwing a ball at an official and striking him in the chest."

Rondo will serve his suspension during road games against the Dallas Mavericks on Monday and Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. He will be available again after the All-Star break, during a Feb. 28 game against the Cavaliers in Cleveland.

The no-call that incensed Rondo involved a hard drive into the middle of Detroit's defense that ended with Pistons center Greg Monroe contacting Rondo as he fell. Monroe's knee and leg hit a falling Rondo as he attempted to contest Rondo's shot. Contact was clearly made and Rondo lay on the ground after absording the blow, but no foul was assessed.

CSNNE.com reports that the ejection is "under review" by the league office.

In March 2011, Phoenix Suns point guard Aaron Brooks was suspended one game for throwing the ball at an official. In January 2012, Utah Jazz forward Derrick Favors was fined $25,000 but not issued a suspension after being ejected for throwing the ball towards the opponent's bench.

Foul or no foul, you simply CANNOT do that. Period.

I don't care about all this supposed stuff the refs have to look for. If you can't see someone get fouled while driving to the basket, traveling with the ball, or someone tossing you the ball after your bad call, then you should be sitting in the stands with granny glasses and a dress on and let those same fans who are yelling at you for getting the call wrong do the refereeing, because you refs are obviously blind as a bat when everyone sees what you can't.

Maybe Rondo deserved the 2 games, but that was a horrible play to miss. Give the ref a week suspension.

Although I don't condone Rondo's reaction the league created this mess they call "Officiating."  They will call touch-fouls and hand-checks on the perimeter against a guy who is 18 feet from the basket but will swallow their whistles when the same player gets hit 6 times by 2 players in the paint!  And, they will swallow their whistles in the 4th quarter when the game is on the line.  Is really simple; if I shoot the ball and you touching me interfers with my path to the basket or impedes my shooting motion IT IS A FOUL.  I saw Kendrick Perkins forearms after a game the other night and it looked like he'd been in a meat grinder, and he DIDN'T GO TO THE FREE THROW LINE ONCE.

Horrible comment. You rip the refs, but do have any clue how much stuff they have to look for during any given play.  You say we are human and make mistakes, but you say it as if that same rule doesn't apply to the refs - sort of hypocritical if you ask me.

They might not tolorate this behavior nor do i condone it, but come on you mean to tell me if you had a 6'11" 250lb guy foul you by having his heavy knee and body knock the hell out of you right in front of a ref you wouldnt be upset? I dont think so! As much as they have to be professional they are human and refs do have too much power. What would have happened if he had got injured due to that? If they dont call the obvious ruff fouls they set no bar therfore players will be getting injured a lot more.

If refs were suspended 2 games for every missed call, we would never see them again. Of course, the NBA might become watchable again if that happened.

I a Celtics fan. I agree with the suspension on Rondo. I agree with suspending the ref 2 games for a terrible non-call.

That is BS the refs in nba are premadonas. Rondo should have launched it at his face and broke his nose. Hey ref its not his fault your reflexs are to slow. Geuss thats why you ref you cant even catch a pass
No, its not BS.
He was fouled but he cant take his frustration out on a ref.
Players in all these professional sports leagues should know.. the leagues do not tolerate any sort of crap dished out towards the refs----and rightfully so.
