Chucking the basketball at the chest of an NBA referee while angrily disputing a call: It's one of those things that you just can't do without hearing from the NBA league office.

Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo was ejected from a Sunday night game against the Pistons in Detroit for throwing the basketball at referee Sean Wright after he did not receive a foul call on a drive to the basket. The ejection -- prompted by two back-to-back technical fouls -- came in the third quarter of a 96-81 loss to the Pistons.

The NBA announced on Monday that Rondo would be suspended for two games without pay for "throwing a ball at an official and striking him in the chest."

Rondo will serve his suspension during road games against the Dallas Mavericks on Monday and Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday. He will be available again after the All-Star break, during a Feb. 28 game against the Cavaliers in Cleveland.

The no-call that incensed Rondo involved a hard drive into the middle of Detroit's defense that ended with Pistons center Greg Monroe contacting Rondo as he fell. Monroe's knee and leg hit a falling Rondo as he attempted to contest Rondo's shot. Contact was clearly made and Rondo lay on the ground after absording the blow, but no foul was assessed.

CSNNE.com reports that the ejection is "under review" by the league office.

In March 2011, Phoenix Suns point guard Aaron Brooks was suspended one game for throwing the ball at an official. In January 2012, Utah Jazz forward Derrick Favors was fined $25,000 but not issued a suspension after being ejected for throwing the ball towards the opponent's bench.

Rondo was clearly fouled ............ twice in fact but that's no excuse to throw the ball at the ref although I understand his frustration !

Rondo has a mutated head and beady eyes that are too closely set together-- it's obvious the guy is a maniac.  Boston breeds mutants like this; no one should be too surprised.  Rondo needs surgery, and quickly, to get the water removed from his peanut-shaped head.  Then, and only then, will he stop this kind of irascible behavior.  He is not to blame for this behavior, and we should be kind to someone whose IQ is clearly in the low 80s.  Rondo, we feel for you brother.  Hopefully you learn to read while you're in the hospital recovering from your brain surgery.

The ref was busy counting in his head how many points needed to be shaved for the best payout.  That's why he wasn't ready to catch the ball.

Stern Stooges All Should Stand Charged

Does anybody really believe the refs ALL missed that egregious foul before he lost his cool? Just one more reason I NEVER watch NBA games, and only check this section on CBS once in a while to see just how corrupt the NBA remains to this day. Corrupt. Total ripoff. Disrespect for fans of the true game. I'm so glad the Kings are leaving sacramento soon so that I don't have to hear people lament about their so-called team that's actually just a pawn in the corrupt and scripted games that are sold as if the players have any say in how the game comes out. WHY ELSE DO YOU THINK THEY NEVER GIVE ANY REAL EFFORT ON THE COURT???

So the ref made a bad call and made Rondo throw the ball?

So when Rondo makes a bad pass does the ref get to throw the ball at him?

Referees make lousy calls every game, tey make good one too.It is part of the game. You have 10 world class athletes flyinf up and down the court for 48 min,it is hard to catch everything. But throwing a ball at the ref??? Rondo exemplifies what is wrong with the NBA,and more specifically with the  Celtics,a once proud, classy organization is now plagued with overpaid, classless thugs who happen to play basketball.Lebron showed his class during and after last year playoffs,Garnett making his ignorant comments about Villanueva,Andrew Byrnum by assaulting Barea during a game. These new breed of asthletes are a far cry from Magic, and Byrd.A 2 game suspension is a slap on the face to the game. There is a difference between been competitive and been an ass,I am afraid Rondo  has joined the latter
